Bicycle Adventure
June 17, 2012
We chose the Merrill House for our annual "Windham to the Whites" cycling weekend, and could not have been more pleased. We had 21 riders this year and the location was a home run, the best spot we've had in 19 years of doing this event. The combination of the house, blue sky weather for 3 straight days, great home cooking, and fantastic riding made for a great outing. One hidden gem of the trip was the 100 mile century loop thru Ocquosic, Wilson's Mills, and Errol which is one of the best In the northeast. Andover is the perfect starting place since it's on the south end, and the ride includes the spectacular vistas of Rangley's Height-of-Land and the north side of Grafton Notch.

Our visit to Maine
May 30, 2012
Our family of sixteen stayed at the Merrill House in Andover, Maine, for two weeks earlier this year and loved it! We have always appreciated the beautiful Maine homes we have seen all over the state, but the Merrill House is definitely the most fantastic home we have yet seen. Our family is involved in several television projects and did some filming at the home and the surrounding region, and it made for a wonderful setting. We especially enjoyed the spacious Great Hall - it was the perfect meeting place for our crowd. Back home, many of our sons have a wedding photography and videography business, and they recognized this home as a perfect spot for a destination wedding. In fact, we are advertising it to our local folks who are looking for a unique place for their special celebration, as this home can accommodate such a large amount of guests. Also, the caretakers, Becky and Bert, are very helpful and considerate in keeping the home looking fresh and clean.

A memory making treasure!
October 17, 2011
We were married at the first Congregational church in Andover, Maine on 10-1-11. We had guests that traveled from all over the United States to attend the ceremony and reception. Many of them stayed at each of our homes in Maine during their time here. But, we really wanted a special place to hold our rehersal dinner. We wanted to specially thank our wedding attendants and special family members. The Merrill House was not far from our hometown of Rumford so it fit our size and location needs. We had no idea at the time what a perfect choice it would turn out to be. The stay at Merrill House was way beyond terrific! Our families came together there for the first time and everyone loved the home and also each other! It was the beginning of our family friendships. The home's atmosphere just added so much to our rehearsal dinner and visits with one another. The house sang with laughter and tears of happiness during our time there. We will always remember the time we shared there with joy. We shared great food in the spectacular dining room, played board games and enjoyed the warmth of the fireplace in the game room, and visited comfortably in the spacious surroundings. Together we marveled over the history of the home found and ourselves often sitting quietly in awe over the treasure before us. The evening after the wedding, us 2 newlyweds chose the smaller of the 2 kitchens to sit and open our gifts. We listened to Faith Hill sing "Wish for you" and we cried tears of gratitude for the generosity of our friends and family and also for the homeowners. It is a wonderful thing they have done to chose to open their treasure for the public to rent. Because of them making this home available, many of us have shared a bonding experience that will follow us through all our days ahead. This home reaches you right to the core and touches your heart and soul. You arrive in your everyday manner and you leave there with joy in your heart. The time spent at the Merrill House will always be one of lifes best moments. The house brought the past into our present day lives and we are thankful to the owners for allowing us to share a piece of their history. There are not enough kind words to be said for the home., the owners or the caretaker. This house is tended by love ...every spec of the grounds and home will wrap its arms around you comfort you in its warmth. We already long to return! With gratitude and many thanks, Valerie & Joseph Mcguire

Magical trip back in time
August 23, 2011
The house is a fantastic historic home, filled with articles of a time gone by when people did jigsaw puzzles on a rainy summer day, or walked across the way to swim or fish in the river. We picked blueberries and then baked pies (and enjoyed a few from the amazing caretakers Becky and Bert too). We kayaked in Bethel, canoed on Lake Richardson and climbed the old Appalachain trail up to the flume. The beds and linens and rugs are brand new and the beautiful quilts are from Maine's own L.L.Bean. We had a great time! Can't wait to go back next summer.

Magical Experience
August 2, 2011
My family reunion of 25 - including my mother, seven sisters, 4 brothers-in-law, all of our children aged 28 to 12 all had a wonderful time staying at the Merrill House. There are rolling hills, lovely grounds, a rope swing, gorgeous hikes, friendly caretakers and plenty of space and accommodations for everyone. The house itself has a very special, lived-in ambiance with so much history. Every room is unique and interesting. It makes it easy to forget about the normal hectic pace of everyday life and really relax. This was the best reunion we have ever had, thanks to the owner 's and Becky and Burt's accessibility and helpfulness. It was just great!

Precious Moments
June 6, 2011
We rented the property to host our wedding reception in honour of our marriage! The property was amazing! Everyone who stayed here immensely enjoyed their stay. The caretakers were wonderful and very accommodating! It was a gorgeous weekend for an outdoor reception and the property was beautiful. Our wedding pictures came out amazing as well! The boys were able to relax with some fishing at the small pond and the rehearsal dinner was gorgeous as well! It was very much my dream wedding and words cannot express how grateful I am to have the opportunity to rent this property! I hope to rent again in the future when we have children!!! Thank you so much to the family for sharing your childhood home! It was neat to have watched the movie that was filmed at the property as well! The was a very unique, enriching experience for all!!!! I hope that future renters will appreciate your beautiful home as much as we did this past weekend! Thank you!

Beautiful place!
May 23, 2011
We rented the house for a week for my parent's 50th anniversary. The setting is every bit as beautiful as it looks in these pictures. The setting is private and scenic with mountain views. It had plenty of room, and as there were 20 of us, we really appreciated the space. The dining room was elegant for a sit-down dinner and the caretaker baked a beautiful cake for us. Both the owner and the caretakers were very accomodating and helpful. We kayaked on the nearby river and enjoyed the wildlife, including the moose that visited the property. Highly recommended.
