Great House for a Family Vacation!

Our family of 5 (children's ages 9, 7 & 2) have just returned from a fantastic stay at the Sugar Shack. The cottage was perfectly suited for us - the private pool is awesome, we ate everyday in the Lanai, and the girls were very happy with their bedrooms. The Sugar Shack is a great spot - especially as it's a minute's walk from a beautiful beach. We loved making sandcastles, watching the sunsets and walking along the lovely beach. The island is also really fun. Lots of quirky places to visit and enjoy various treats. We made use of the bikes provided to explore the island and had many fun experiences together as a family. I'd totally recommend the Sugar Shack and Anna Maria Island to families who are looking forward to special time together in Florida!

An Awesome Place To Vacation

My girlfriends and I vacationed on AMI at the Sugar Shack the first week of March. First, I'd like to say that Sheila is the most gracious hostess! She answered every single little question I had (and I had a lot!!) with promptness and grace. No question is too dumb so don't ever hesitate to ask Sheila, she has ALL the answers! The Sugar Shack was a home away from home and EXACTLY as described by Sheila. An open living room/kitchen area which is perfect when cooking, you can still interact with others. The bedrooms are all a good size with enough closet/drawer space. Mattresses and pillows extremely comfy (wanted to steal her king it was SO comfortable!). Both bathrooms were roomy enough for 4-6 girls to be constantly in and out of!! Plenty of towels (both bath and beach). Of course our favorite room of the house that we spent MOST of our time in was the lanai. LOTS of comfy seating room and had plastic protecting the screens so if it rained or it was really chilly (we had both), we were protected. Once it got warm enough, zip those protectors up and you had the screens with fresh air blowing through. It was our favorite place to eat, drink, and chat. At all times, there was always a bunch of us out there....the perfect hanging out area! The pool was a nice size, VERY clean! The beach is literally 3 minutes away. We used the wagon a few times to go to the beach, very handy to drag all the stuff down; chairs, umbrellas, towels, coolers, etc. The island itself is awesome. We didn't have a car so we walked A LOT and used the trolley whenever we could, which was a great form of transportation as it's very busy this time of year and to take a left out of anywhere is a HUGE process! LOL. Lots of great restaurants, bars, and shops! We were all over the island and found TONS of stuff to do everywhere! We went out on a sailboat one afternoon and saw a pod of dolphins and the most beautiful sunset!! All in all we had an amazing girls vacation thanks mostly to the Sugar Shack and, of course, to the island itself! We WILL be back next year as this part of Florida has now become our favorite!

we stayed for 8 nights during dec and had a wonderful time, 75-80 degrees daily, maybe we were lucky with the weather, but sugar shack was also great, perfect location, close to water on both sides, trolley 2 blocks away and good restaurants and taverns in walking distance as well as being very quiet and relaxing with a very nice pool with privacy

Sugar Shack - a Must Stay Vacation Destination

We LOVED the Sugar Shack, it was a very comfortable, clean and well equipped house! We felt like we were home the minute we walked in. The owner was very helpful in answering questions and making suggestions (airport to fly into, whether or not to rent a car, best time of year to vacation) - her suggestions all proved to be spot on. Anna Maria Island is a lovely vacation destination with a bit of the tourist feel and a bit of the community feel. The beach was just a short walk (small block and half) from the house with very easy beach access. The beach was very clean with beautiful white sand and blue clear water! Loved the beach! We spent as much time at the beach as we did at the pool at the Sugar Shack - the pool was well maintained, very comfortable temperature and completely private! The landscaping was very pretty with a tropical feel! We had full sun on the pool for about 4 hours of the day, perfect amount of time to work on your tan leaving the morning and the evening for beach and sightseeing. Poolside lounge chairs and other chairs available and comfortable. The lanai was a wonderful retreat from the sun when you still wanted to be outdoors - it was great! The sunsets are GORGEOUS and different every evening, don't miss one! We drove to Siesta Keys (rated #1 beach in the USA) and thought the beach close to the Sugar Shack was just a pretty, with more shells and fewer people - we preferred Anna Maria Island. If you have never gone the rental house route (and have always stayed in a hotel), the Sugar Shack is a GREAT first experience. This was our first time to rent a house and we picked the perfect place! We will definitely be back and wouldn't stay anywhere else! Thank you Sheila!!!!

My family and I decided to take a vacation in Florida, and after spending some time searching for a nice home rental with pool and close to the beach, we had found the Sugar Shack, we fall in love with that place, because it have all the amenities and comfort that my family and I were looking for, a home rental fully furnished, with pool and very close to the beach.... The Sugar Shack make our family vacation a wonderful experience.... It is a tropical paradise.....

Colorful, relaxing tropical property

My family of 6 (3 adults/3 elementary aged kids) just returned & really enjoyed our stay. The saltwater pool and private tropical landscaping including the screened lanai & gas grill were the highlights. Kids loved the pool-- We found most of our enjoyment there over the beach. We experienced a few issues in the home, but when brought to Sheila's attention were promptly taken care of. None of the issues necessarily imposed on our plans. It was a pleasure dealing with the owner, Sheila. She was always pleasant, welcoming & provided helpful info on the area for dining, etc. The only reason that I did not give it 5 stars is because the particular section of beach closest within walking distance of the house was in disrepair. There was alot of beach erosion due to tropical storms a while back & a ton of seaweed (also, stinky) that was in the process of being hauled off of the beaches. Of course this is no fault of the owners, again they were great. I will say that the walking distance to beach is a little over two blocks however so it is definitely handy to have the sturdy beach wagon & all of the accessories that are provided. The bicycles were enjoyed by the whole family young & old alike & we frequented the bayside & were rewarded with dolphin viewings on multiple occasions. Pictures of bedroom with futon doesn't give it justice. Very nice recent addition to the home along with adjoining bathroom/walk-in shower. Overall, very positive experience!

Bonnie, thank you for your review. Sorry, about the beach erosion and seaweed. The Island is in the process of getting the plans for a total beach refurbrishing. The last storm took so much of our beautiful sand out to sea. Hopefuly it will be done by next summer. The beach being a 3-5 minute
walk is still so close and beach wagon does make the stroll easy. So happy you and your family had a great vacation. Please come back next year!

Sheila's Sugar Shack is a wonderful place to stay. My family of 6 had a fun-filled and relaxing vacation there. We went to the beach -only 2 blocks away- every day and night. The sunsets were gorgeous! The Sugar Shack has all the extras that you can think of including beach wagon, coolers, chairs, umbrella, beach toys, cards and games for rainy days and even a juicer! We cooked many of our meals there and enjoyed time on the lanai playing cards and visiting. The Sugar Shack has cute decor inside and out. The inground pool was a huge plus with my family. We highly recommend visiting there...you will not be disappointed! Just rent this lovely house as soon as you can!

Our 3rd yr here. Love it. The cutest house, great location, privacy a hotel or condo can't offer, spectacular pool/patio area, and screened porch. So close to the beautiful white sand beach with wagon, cooler and chairs provided. Friendly, prompt, personable, and reliable owners. Not some management company. The best restaurant and setting,The Sandbar, put your feet in the sugar sand and watch the breath taking sunsets while enjoying great food and drinks. The local attractions, museums, aquariums, and shopping almost beat out staying close to "home" lying on the beach or lounging by the pool. "Do we have to go home mom?" It's the only time that saying "Yes" is hard on me too. We don't want to leave. We will be back. The whole family loves the "Sugar Shack".

We loved the house we stayed in. We had three beautiful bedrooms. Gorgeous walk in shower & another bathroom with tub. We had 8 traveling including a baby. Everything was very clean. The kitchen was beautiful as well. Had everything we needed. The grill outside was perfect. My children loved the wagon and toys that were provided. The walk to the beach was very close. We used the pool daily. I couldn't get my kids out of it :). Overall it was the perfect place for us and will definitely be back & hope to stay in the same house.

An Oasis of Comfort

We just got back from our week on Anna Maria and fell in love! The island and its residents welcome visitors and we truly felt at home there. Everyone we met was nice and went out of their way to be helpful. The Sugar Shack was our home away from home and what a charming and fun home it was. The decor and furnishings can't help but make you smile. The beach was 2 short blocks away and the pool was wonderfully refreshing after a day on the beach. All the comforts of home were available at the Sugar Shack and I would recommend anyone go and enjoy this wonderful oasis. A bonus was we didn't have to pay a cleaning fee just do what you would if you were staying at a friends beach house. Overall the Sugar Shack was comfortable, easy and truly enjoyable.

Just returned for a weeks stay at the Sugar Shack. My husband and 3 children (all in college) had felt I found the perfect place on the island. The owner, Sheila, had told me that we would probably love the pool the most on our trip, and she was right! While we enjoyed the entire island, each day we looked forward to relaxing by the very private and tropical pool. We all could see staying there again. This Floridian home had all the amenities of your own home and the wireless internet was included. We have recommended this rental to many friends and colleagues. Thanks Sheila.

I stayed at the Sugar Shack with my husband and 3 kids. The home was very welcoming and really had a fun in the sun vibe to it. The decor really did make us FEEL like we were on vacation. The house was clean and well kept. The beach was only a short walk away (about 2 blocks) and we didn't mind making the trip, especially since the home had a beach wagon to haul all the toys, towels, ect. Linens, towels, beach toys, everything you need was provided. The owner, Shelia, was very acommidating and plesant. Over all, a great place to rent.

Our stay was delightful, place was adorable, a/c wonderful, pool & bar-b-que great for us, used alot. Good location. Good family time for the 6 of us (including 2 teens) & lots of visits from our other family (staying elsewhere) who had talked us into trying west coast, Fla. for vac. Weather hot (but sunny & no storms, a blessing) after all it is summer time in florida. Early a.m. & eves beautiful. Very short walk to sunsets. Would return in a heartbeat !

This was our third stay on Anna Maria Island and most definately the best. Sugar Shack is a quirky and fun oasis in a fantastic and relaxing location. The vivid use of colour in the Sugar Shack makes it an ideal location to enjoy the island. We sat out most days around the pool and the kids loved the free wireless which meant they could keep up to date with friends on the dreaded Facebook!! Loved the stay and would definately come back

If you are acquainted with bland Florida holiday villas , this isn't one of them.More of a beach house, with splendid colours and furnishings,lovely collected bits and pieces,comfortable and relaxing.The garden(yard)is delightful,the pool most welcome,the neighbourhood was enchanting,and the sea was a short stroll away,strongly urge you to go.

The sugar shack was so great! We loved that we could walk to the beach! The house was very cute and it was lots of fun to hang out by the pool. This is a great house, stay here!

The Sugar Shack is not only as described, it's even better. The colors are uplifting and cheery. The property is well maintained and very clean. We had everything we needed for our stay, plenty of linens and "beach stuff". The pool is a plus that we took advantage of everyday. Just pack your swimsuits and shorts, everything else is already there. The house is in a quiet neighborhood with the beach a couple of blocks away. The trolley stop is nearby too. I recommend taking advantage of the trolley it's not only convenient you can't beat the price - free! This was our first trip to Anna Maria Island but it won't be our last. The Sugar Shack will definetly be a part of our future plans.

An amazing place. Everything about the Sugar Shack is about comfort, relaxation and fun. Our children loved the pool; the beach is beautiful... just a two minute walk away. If you visit Anna Maria Island, I strongly recommend staying at the Sugar Shack. This was truly a wonderful experience, and we will definately be back.

The Sugar Shack was perfect. Very eclectic with a Caribbean charm. The back yard is private and the pool is perfect. It is a nice walking distance to the beach and main street, and on the trolley route. We enjoyed it immensely. If you are looking for privacy, relaxation and charm, this is it. We would highly recommend this property.

We had a wonderful stay at the "Sugar Shack". Everything we could possibly need was provided for us. Our kids spent every day in the gorgeous, heated pool. The location couldn't be beat. Shelia, you're a wonderful host. We look forward to returning to the "Sugar Shack" again.

Exactly as advertised. Spent Xmas and than rang in the New Year. Kids had to be dragged to the Beach, they were so cozy in the Pool. Very comfortable and restful area and house.

This was the most beautiful place my family and I have stayed at so far on this island.I am really hoping to go back this summer and I recommend this home for any one looking to get away to relax and feel as though they are right at home.The location is great and the home is beautiful and very clean and cozy.The pool area was my favorite.
