Other Vacation Rental Amenities

The Bird House is centrally located inside a triangle formed by Biltmore Avenue, Tunnel Road and Swannanoa River Road, along the sides of which are all the good things this mountain town has to offer: The Biltmore Estate (less than a mile away!) and the Grove Park Inn with its fabulous spa, great dining and shopping, music, art, entertainment, mountain culture, traditional and alternative health arts, sports (The Asheville Tourists play less than a mile away), nature, wildlife and scenery. Two times a year the Southern Highland Guild presents one of the country's premier craft fairs, and L.E.A.F. Music Festivals in both spring and fall attract campers and music lovers from everywhere. That is not to mention all the other ethnic and specialty festivals, the queen of which is Belle Chere in July, that fill the calendar from April through October. The casinos of Cherokee are an hour's scenic drive away, and Asheville is surrounded by national forests and parks teeming with hiking and horseback riding trails. Lake Lure just over a ridge, and other lakes (James, Watauga, Fontana, Jocassee and Toxaway, to name a few) offer mountain beaches, water sports and fishing. For the children, right in Asheville there are The Health Adventure hands-on science museum and The Nature Center featuring petting and regional animal zoos. The North Carolina Arboretum and the University of NC Asheville Botanical Gardens offer both formal and natural gardens and displays of regional flora, as well as workshops, shows and lectures year-round. The WNC Agricultural Center is the site of everything from the WNC State Fair to energy efficiency expositions to fiber shows, horse exhibitions, rodeos and tractor pulls. There really is something here for everyone, and The Bird House is smack in the middle of it all!

By denise rettew (wilmington, nc usa)
My husband and I enjoyed our stay at the birdhouse. It was a comfortable space, including everything that we needed to cook, chill out and make ourselves at home. Extra bonus for pets: a screened porch and fenced backyard. Great location as well.

The Bird House has been so wonderful! It truly made us feel like we had a home during our time here in Asheville, rather than simply being visitors. Our favorite activity has been sitting out on the porch in the evenings… nothing is more peaceful. Thanks!

Ellen, it was such a pleasure staying in your cottage. I am so glad to we got to meet as well. Every detail here has been considered – we lacked for nothing and felt completely at home. As a woman with only 3 more weeks of pregnancy left to go (hopefully!), I was especially grateful for the comfortable bed and the air conditioning!

We liked Kenilworth so much, we’ve made an offer on a house here! Hopefully, we’ll be neighbors soon.

Take care and thank you again for the lovely accommodations.

The days were breezy and the evenings cool – just how we like it. Thanks for allowing us to bring Mattie, our 9 year old Sheltie – she loved it, too. We went for many walks.

Thank you, beautiful Bird House – you saved us! When we arrived in Asheville we discovered that our reserved accommodations were a disaster. What a blessing that this charming home was available for our babies (Jack and Grizzly) and us! We were close to everything and felt so sheltered and at home here… we treated it like our own (and you should, too!). We’ve added a book to the hallway shelf – I adored Boychiks in the Hood!) and hope to return to visit again, perhaps in the summer (it was chilly for New Year’s Eve)! Thank you again and again. May God bless and keep you, and bless the lovely home you so generously share with others. See you next time!

Ellen, thanks so much for a lovely stay in Asheville! We have only been married 7 months (still newlyweds) and needed a weekend trip alone. We were also glad that you allowed us to bring our basset hound Dixie; she also loved it here! Your home is so adorable and so much nicer than staying at a hotel; we were able to make ourselves at home. Thanks for everything!

We had a great time staying here – everything was cozy and beautiful, and we were happy to not only wake up here (the bed is very comfortable) but to return here each night. Cedar the dog was as happy as we were – great back yard, and wonderful neighborhood for walks.

Thanks for everything – from directions for both couples in our party, to a fantastic place to stay in Asheville!

Well, we can’t thank you enough for allowing us to stay so long at The Bird House. It has been a wonderful temporary home for us, as we were waiting for our new house to be completed. Thank you so much for being so helpful and flexible with all of our changes, etc. We really enjoyed our time here in your very comfortable and warm home. I loved the area, the proximity to Biltmore House and Village, and being able to get down town so quickly and easily, and having the little back yard for Noah was a godsend. With many thanks, hugs,

Claudette and Mike Wren, & Noah-the-dog, Houston, TX

PS 8:00 o’clock on the dining room clock is definitely “our song!!”
