The Ashland area is known as the "Gateway to the Northern Maine Woods". This is the access point to the world famous Allagash Wilderness.

Ashland is also the center of one of the greatest snowmobile trails in the Northeast. The trails are groomed often and connect to all the major towns in the area and beyond.

Presque Isle, the largest city in Aroostook County is located only 22 miles to the east. This city offers quaint down town dining and shopping along with the Aroostook Centre Mall and a Super Wal-Mart.
