Description of the Augusta vacation cottage rental
It features a high deck facing our 200 feet of natural lake frontage with dock and canoe. In afternoon sun or under a star-blasted night sky, it’s utterly private, on 3.5 wooded acres.
Please note: We rent only to (non-smoking) adults.
The 2005-built cottage has mahogany flooring, knotty pine paneling, and big windows with pretty views. The sunny livingroom has comfortable, new furniture and a cozy dining area next to a cast iron heat stove (ceramic log, propane fireplace).
Upstairs, a romantic "loft" bedroom overlooks the livingroom and has a custom-made, queen-size platform bed with a firm, new mattress. All bedding is supplied.
There's a small, quiet room at the back of the house with a futon couch/bed.
The big bathroom features a washer/dryer, a walk-in shower and a large, custom made, pine cabinet, inset with a Mexican ceramic sink and with roomy drawers for clothes storage. Towels are supplied. Fresh water comes from a deep, private well.
In the compact kitchen are new appliances including a microwave and smooth-top range. (No dishwasher besides yourself.) Good lighting with an extra light over the stove. Quality cookware, knives, dishes, glassware-- fully equipped except for your groceries.
There’s a new CD/radio/cassette player, a 13" TV (satellite dish connection) and DVD player with a few DVDs on hand. There’s no land-line and no internet, but good cellphone reception. The Augusta library and nearby Panera Bread offer free wireless internet. Phone book, maps and brochures are supplied.
The canoe at our dock is equipped with life jackets and paddles, and the water is very clean for swimming and good for fishing-- mainly bass and pickerel.
Area Information
The lake is spring-fed, fish-full and people-free. Paddling around is a pleasure at any time of day.
Augusta (8 miles) offers convenient shopping, restaurants and entertainment.
Nearby towns offer antiques, country fairs, country stores and pretty pastures.
The busy coast (40 minutes drive) has lots more to see and do-- lighthouses, souvenirs, scenic harbors, etc...

Cozy Cottage, Great Location
May 30, 2013
While up visiting my husband's family we needed a place centrally located. This cottage was AMAZING. So clean inside, like new... Gorgeous view of the lake! The only down side, which wasn't the property, was the fact it rained the whole week we were up there so we never got to take the canoe out!!! What a great place! Thanks Ginger for everything!

Quiet & Nature
September 27, 2010
This is an excellent place for two people wanting to get away for quiet and peace in a glorious, secluded natural environment. We stayed for several weeks and found it also to be a good location for day trips to the coast, for lighthouse visits, and for overnight trips to Bar Harbor. The house allows plenty of natural lighting to enter, and the kitchen is well-equipped.

o Ginger, We typically stay in hotels when we visit relatives in Maine, but I am so glad we found your cottage for this trip! The cottage itself is gorgeous, the setting unbelievable, and you guys thought of absolutely everything. Beats the heck out of a stale hotel room, and you can bet we'll be in contact with you when we return to Maine--hopefully next time we'll have more than just a few days to bask in the fabulousness you've created! Thanks very much--you'll hear from us again soon!

Ginger- Bill and I had a very nice stay at your cottage in the woods. The canoe was fun and the fishing, GREAT. We had quite a bit of rain but we found things to do. Thank you for the speedy return of our security deposit. You have a great place! Bill bought his fishing license at Hussey's (thanks for telling us about that unique store). He went fishing for an hour or two every day. He caught a lot of fish. He figures around 40 or 50 small mouth bass some as big as 15". Also some pickering at about 18". Didn't seem to matter what time of the day. Any time was excellent. He released them all. He used artificial bait. The brand was Calcutta, 2", shad type. We have not discussed our summer getaway for next year but would love to return if June works out for us. I will hold on to your e-mail address just in case. Enjoy your extended stay next summer! Carole
o Hey Ginger, I asked the guy in Hussey's if he knew if the fish in Anderson Pond were edible and he said go for it, they won't hurt you, although he never heard of Anderson Pond.. I think that pond is spring fed (at least I think it is) we paddled the canoe all around it and I never saw a stream feeding it or a stream leaving it so I assume it is spring fed. Which in my opinion would make the pond pretty much free of pollutants. It was funny not to see any one else fishing on the pond except for me because the fishing was so good, I caught fish from the dock, from the canoe, most of the fish I caught were along the shore line, but as you went further out from the shore line the fish got bigger but caught less fish. It didn't matter what time of day it was. I don't fish with live bait, I use as Carole mentioned, Calcutta brand, shad type lure, 2" or so inches in length. I tried longer ones but that didn't work. I used a light weight spinning rod and real with 6lb. test line. Caught a fish on my very first cast, and caught at least 40 all together. I don't usually keep any of the fish I catch, except when I fish in salt water and catch a fish that is a good tasting fish. Sorry for the pontification. Thank you, Bill

Hi Ginger, Just wanted to thank you so much for such a wonderful 1st time Maine experience! First off...your home was amazing. We loved everything about it! The artistic decor (family of artists so I know)...the amazing location by the most peaceful lake/pond built on rocks...wow....we never wanted to leave! We never heard quiet like that before! The clear starry nights. AAAHHH. We did travel every day to try to see it all. Maine is such a beautiful state. The people were very nice. We had a good time. We traveled as far as Bar Harbor, took a scenic plane ride out of Owls Head, dinner in Boothbay and went as far north as Bangor--Not enough time we really wished for more days. We would love to come back. And will. Lynn June 08
