Description of the Bagni di Lucca vacation cottage rental

Lovely stone cottage, built 100 years ago, tastefully restored in 2005 (wooden beams), located in Riolo: a quaint, small and picturesque village in Tuscany where few people are living in old Tuscany style. In Riolo you can relax and visit the beautiful, nearby cities of Tuscany: Lucca (25km), Pisa (45km) and Florence (90km).

The cottage has two floors; on the 1rst level there are the living room with an efficient fireplace and the dining area. An internal winding staircase leads to the 2nd floor. Here you’ll find two bedrooms with panoramic view (one with double bed and the other with 3 single beds) and bathroom (with shower).

The guests of cottage can enjoy two private gardens and a beautiful "loggia" where you can have unforgettable meals with stunning view. Mrs Alessandra can cook for you at her house typical and delicious italian food bringing it to the cottage.

Lucy cottage is completely furnished with linen, crockery, washing machine, radio, stereo cd player, television, vhs, dvd player with a lot of movies (English), hairdryer, iron and ironing board. If needed are also available highchair and cot.

Area Information

The village, Riolo, is 5 minutes from Bagni di Lucca. Here there are lovely public thermal swimming pools (large pool, children’s pool and diving pool), thermal baths, restaurants, bars, shops, banks, supermarkets, post office, market (Weds and Sat), tennis club and historic monuments such as the Casino where roulette was invented in 1837 and where Puccini used to play, the Ponte delle Catene (first suspension bridge in Europe) and villas belonging to previous historical figures such as Elisa Bonaparte. Leaving Bagni di Lucca to north you'll find Barga and Castelnuovo, two lovely Medieval villages.

Don't miss Lucca (far from cottage about 25km) with its old and famous Walls and its charming center, Pisa (45km) where you can admire Piazza dei Miracoli with the famous Torre; Florence (90km) the most important and beautiful city of Tuscany where you can visit a lot of historic sites and the famous Uffizi Museum. You can reach this cities also by buses or trains from Bagni di Lucca.

lovely cottage in scenic & serene hilltop village

After driving excitedly up the narrow and very winding mountain road to Riolo, outside of Bagni di Lucca, topped off by a 400 m walk uphill on centuries old cobblestone walkways, we were thrilled when we entered the Lucy cottage at the top of the hilltop. The cottage itself had everything we could possibly need for our visit and the views from our beautiful stone terrace were even more awesome than we had imagined. The village is close enough to Lucca that it was a destination for us numerous times as well as being a perfect starting point to explore the mountain regions of Tuscany. My only regret is that we didn't allow ourselves more time to just sit and relax in the serene setting of that beautiful hilltop cottage.

The cottage in Riolo, bagni di Lucca provided a wonderful retreat from the everyday stresses. The magnificent views of the mountains, the warm sunshine, the sounds of silence in the early morning hours, and the refreshing mountain drinking water where delightful. Bagni di Lucca ws nearby and in it we were able to purchase all the food and items we needed for our stay. It also was a lovely town to meander in. The mountain road up to the cottage was a little tight, but using precautions while driving, it was no problem at all. The cities of Lucca, Pisa and Florence were within distance for a day trip. I recommend it highly to anyone wishing to enjoy the best of the area near Lucca.
