Description of the Bagni di Lucca vacation villa rental
Garfagnana '''Media Valle del Serchio is a wonderful still pretty unknown area of northwestern Tuscany, Italy. In this marvellous setting we have recently restored a group of farmhouses, which have been property of our family more than 150 years. Our holiday villa is located on a hill at 450 m. asl, in a nice secluded place, surrounded by chestnuts and thorntrees, on the edge of a hamlet, named Guzzano, near Bagni di Lucca, which is a lovely spa-town at 25 km from Lucca, 50 km from Pisa and 85 km from Florence.

Casa Ciesa is our XVIII century countryhouse of approx. 250 sm. Clearly the result of the talented design of the Italian architect Alberto Francini of Metrogramma, Casa Ciesa leaves no detail unattended. Exposed beams, original terracotta tiles pavements and typical Tuscan rural furniture are among examples together with all the features of a modern house.

Casa Ciesa will be your perfect starting point to explore the wonders of the Lucca area and Tuscany. It will be a pleasure to have you here.

Area Info
Guzzano offers neither groceries nor bars, but some can be found in a village nearby (2 km) or in Bagni (5 km). You can purchase at our house a very good quality local honey and wine bottles or buy fresh vegetables and fruits from a "verduriere" (a guy with a picturesque van full of everything!) coming up to Casa Ciesa every friday morning. Market day is wednesdays and saturdays morning in Bagni di Lucca. On request we can arrange your dinner.

Our village was once very populated. At the beginning of the XX century a lot of inhabitants sought their fortune abroad. Most of their grandchildren still live outside Italy but come back here for holidays once in a while. Some English tourists bought a house in our village, following up a long tradition which dates back to the XIX century, when English poets or artists like the Brownings were literally enrapted by these surroundings. From Casa Ciesa you can go on foot down to Bagni di Lucca in an hour or explore the surrounding woods in search of a forgotten church.

Bagni di Lucca (at 5 km), is a nice tourist resort, where you will find general stores, shops, and sport centers (public swimming pool, tennis courts, chemist, supermarkets, etc.) and a beautiful spa known during the 18th and 19th centuries as a beloved destination for personalities and artists like Byron, Shelley, Puccini, Metternich and Radestsky. Traces of this glorious past are to be found in its monuments: the English Church, the Catene bridge, the Spa, the villas, the Casino, etc. The Casino was the first gambling house to be opened in Europe. It was closed in the 19th century, but during the last years it has been perfectly restored and reopened as a wonderful location for parties and wedding receptions. In our spa town you can find some good trattorias, where you can taste our traditional cuisine based on simple ingredients like mushrooms, chestnuts, sausages, stakes etc.
