Description of the Baltimore vacation guesthouse rental

Winner of the 2008 Preservation Restoration Award, ours is an historic, pet-friendly and green property! Only 8 minutes to Baltimore City and BWI airport, and 35 minutes to Washington, DC. Overlooking the Patapsco River Valley, expect to see hawks and songbirds. Ask about the recent vintage of wine we are bottling. Historic Ellicott City is minutes away with shops, restaurants and fun things to see and do.

The guest house, as with the entire property of Avalon Cliff was built from historic materials (the interior repurposed from an 18th century sailing ship, the Somerset). This comfortable retreat property offers two levels, (floors are wood and carpeting) a completely renovated kitchen, bath, great room, breakfast room, cozy 1st floor bedroom and 2nd floor loft (lots of space for kids). Look out from your front window to view an English formal garden and watch the sun set over the valley. Numerous gardens surround the wooded 4 acre, very private property. Sit out on the back deck to see the woods and streams that run below. A cherry tree stands where a Civil War Battery stood and the trains running below the cliff, remind you of a long-lost era. Flowers, frogs and wildlife are everywhere!

Cool nights? Set a fire in the renewly restored summerhouse, or take a hike in the State Park, just a few steps from the door. Enjoy water? Visit the river just below or take a swim in the swim lane pool. Private laundry with additional 1/2 bath.

Rental property was beautiful! House was clean & well kept, had everything we needed. Plenty of trees & birds. Enjoyed the large hot tub & walks through the State Park.

My family of six enjoyed an early spring stay at Avalon this April. We found the property comfortable, clean and relaxing. Owners were very kind and hospitable. We expecially enjoyed the pool spa for relaxation. The nearby Avalon park afforded our family enjoyable family-bonding walks. AND, our pet cockapoo, Lucky, was very pleased with the total environment. (The host's dog treats helped his opinion.)

I stayed at Avalon Cliff from March to June in 2006. The place worked out fabulously. The location is beautiful on a cliff above Patapsco State Park, and Gene and Wendy could not have been nicer. I had a dog with me that was able to spend time outside for most of the day with Gene and Wendy's dog Buff. I would highly recommend Avalon Cliff for all short term living arrangements. It was simple, convenient, and very pleasant.

My family and I stayed at Avalon Cliff for 4.5 months
this summer/fall in between our overseas assignments.
We have two small children and two Labrador
Retrievers, and we found the guest annex to be quite
adequate for our needs of temporary housing. It was also nice to have our own private laundry room and storage area, so we didn't feel that we were ever intruding on anyone
else.

Avalon Cliff worked out well for us since we were
looking for a short-term rental that was fully
equipped, i.e. linens, cable, phone, answering
machine, etc. and dog-friendly.

As we return to our busy lives we’ve not forgotten our gracious hosts and the time we spent at Avalon Cliff. It was certainly a reunion to remember.
