NEAR BAR HARBOR--STUNING "EDGEWATER" (#41407)

Liz Slater does not return calls. She owes me my $250 deposit and she can not be found. I am in the process of hiring a lawyer that will cost me over $1700 to get $250 back. It will be worth the price once her license is revoked. The house was gorgeous, brand new and lovely. Liz Slater was impossible to reach, once she cashed the rent check, and never sent a welcome package, or gave instructions about the house. Luckily I contacted the listing agent, and met the owner. Great house, actually amazing house, I hope they get a new rental agent. She's never returned our security deposit. Renting from photos made me a bit nervous since this was my big vacation but it was everything and even more then what you see in the photos. What a peaceful, quiet, restful place and yet, close to stores and towns. We had a great time visiting Bar Harbor and Arcadia a number of times. There are many things to do or just nothing. The house was clean, kitchen was big, rooms plentiful.. everything was new - we enjoyed ourselves so much and are talking about visiting Edgewater again next year (we still need to see a few more things in Aradia). Liz Slater was helpful in telling us what was around - she was right on. All I have to say is this place was big enough for 3 adults and 3 kids and small enough to make it cozy. I wish I had the guts to visit it in the winter!!! Oh, also, the water, right there, was clear but cold...that was what the kids said when they got out! Seven of us (six adults and a year-old baby) stayed at Edgewater for a week. It was as close to perfection as any place I've ever stayed. The house was very roomy and could have comfortably accommodated another four people. Materials and construction quality are exceptional and the design is beautiful. The furniture is also solid and well-designed. We prepared a number of large meals in the kitchen without any problems. The house is situated on a rise in a quiet, peaceful grove of trees. The large porch on the back overlooks Union River Bay, and we spent many hours there. The bay is a short walk from the house and the water is calm and swimmable. We also rented kayaks for the week and used them often - the bay makes for perfect kayaking, with miles of shore to explore. We made several trips to Acadia National Park and found it very accessible - about a 30-minute drive. The only problems were extremely minor - shortages of a few items. There wasn't enough laundry detergent, for example. (I'm really reaching to find something to complain about.) All in all it made for a fantastic vacation. We'd come back in an instant - and are wishing we could. I recommend it without any qualification.
