At 1 minute walk from my house there is the bus stop that can take you to the nearest train station or directly to Siena, Florence and San Gimignano.
GOING NORTH:35 minutes by bus to reach Florence (a city that doesnt need any presentation to be appreciate!)
GOING SOUTH: 30 minutes by bus to go to Siena another pearl of Tuscany, smaller than Florence, but really interesting for its medieval structure and for its art and architectural treasures. This city is an attraction especially in July and August when the famous horse competition (the so called PALIO) takes place.
GOING WEST: by bus or rent car youll find the best of Chiantis hills with its vineyards, olive graves, woods, Romanic churches, castles, villas, taverns and typical inns.
GOING EAST: 15 minutes by car to go to San Gimignano the so called fourteen-tours town. Other easily reachable place are Vinci, the city of Leonardo (1 hour by car);Pisa, the famous falling tour city (1 hour and a half),Rome, caput mundi (3 hours and an half by car) Our beaches can be reached in 2 hours by car. The see is clean and the pine-woods give you fresh and perfumed air especially in the summer.
The Medieval Village of Barberino Val d'Elsa is half way between Florence and Siena (both 30 Km far from the village) on a panoramic hill near the freeway to Florence and Siena. The village is served by an hourly bus service at few steps from the house for Florence, Siena and San Gimignano that makes of the accommodation an excellent localization to visit Florence, Siena (both reachable in 30 minutes by car or 45 minutes by bus) San Gimignano and enjoying the Chianti, very well known for its wine and good food, all year round.
The village is in a breathtaking panoramic position, on the top of a hill of 373 meter above the sea level, dominating the west part of the Chianti Classico wine region. The village is provided of a bakery store, 3 good restaurants-pizzeria at few steps distance, 3 pubs, grocery stores, banks, drugstore and an office of tourist information, a free internet point, an horseback riding resource, all at a walking distance from the apartment, complete the offer to provide all you need for an enjoyable stay without moving from the village. These accommodations are ideal for people who want to visit Florence and Siena with the public service and then discover by car the hilly Chianti Classico countryside and its wonderful middle aged villages (San Gimignano, Monteriggioni, Colle Val d'Elsa, Castellina in Chianti, Radda in Chianti, Gaiole in Chianti , San Donato in Poggio, Greve in Chianti , Certaldo, Petrognano) and the castles and Abbey (Meleto Castle, Brolio and Spaltenna Castle , Badia a Passignano ). From Barberino Val d'Elsa You can go by bus to the towns of Florence and Siena and San Gimignano, avoiding the worries of driving in these busy towns with no free parking. Being located just between Florence and Siena you can easily visit these marvellous towns by the bus service, that in only 45 minutes can carry you to Florence or Siena, with a bus quite every hour. In addition, especially if you come during the summer you will have a better stay in the countryside than in the always hot and sticky Florence (the hottest town of Italy in the summer) and utilize the car only for a couple of days to explore the villages and countryside more difficult to explore by using the public transport.
"It was incomparably beautiful, for no other landscape , I think, can touch the heart as that of Tuscany"..D.H. Lawrence.
.in the city.
A home near Florence puts you at the Artistic heart of the Italian Renaissance, just a stroll away from the vast red dome of the cathedral, the ancient arches of the Ponte Vecchio , the churches , Palazzos and world renowned galleries. You can shop in colourful markets for local delicacies and Tuscan wines , dine out when you prefer and take advantage of the rich cultural life, from concerts and opera to exhibitions and festivals
.. in the country.
Whatever the season you can find inspiration in the vistas of rolling hillsides, where vineyards and olive groves, slender cypress trees and fields of intense yellow sunflowers are dotted with age old farmhouses of mellow golden stone. Enjoy country pursuits like walking, horse riding or simply seeking out another perfect hilltop village , where there is sure to be a welcoming family-owned restaurant to make "your own".

In the village there are 3 restaurants, 2 in the historic centre, next to the church, have a very nice view from the panoramic terrace where you can eat in the summer, you can eat a very good pizza at the "Archibugio" or more classical Italian food at the "Campanellino". A suggestion, especially for the "Archibugio" is to book in advance otherwise you will be not able to eat at a reasonable time ... The third restaurant is on the hill just outside the centre, on the hill leading the "Semifonte" camping little expensive but you can eat very good fish. The bus stop is a few meters from the house and every hour you have a bus who go to Florence and one who go to Siena. We give you also a private parking. Wonderful place to stay

December 2, 2006

This B&B was an excellent choice for us. The house was wonderful, the view from the front and the windows was beautiful, and Manuela was a great hostess. She not only cooked a great breakfast each morning, but also drove us to dinner and picked us up each evening since we didn't have a car. All the amenities were very comfortable and the whole stay was incredibly relaxing. The location is convenient to both Siena and Florence, as well as other Tuscan sites. Manuela could not have been more gracious and generous with her home. Our only problem was that we didn't rent a car and I HIGHLY recommend that you do so to stay here. There is a bus very close, but it does not run that frequently or reliably. We had a lot of trouble with the bus and we would have been in trouble if Manuela had not driven us to dinner each night. Without a car and with the bus being less than great, we really struggled to even get something to eat during the day, let alone go anywhere. The nearest village was beautiful, but everything in it was closed most of the time and was a treacherous 2-3 mile walk on a very dangerous road with no shoulder. We ended up hardly leaving the house except for one nightmarish trip to Siena which basically involved about 5 hours of trying to get to and from the house with all of the different types of public transportation we had to take. So definitely stay here, but definitely rent a car and don't rely on the public transportation. Make sure to eat at the pizza place in Barberino--out of this world!

The residence was lovely and we had a very nice view of the countryside. Manuela was a wonderful hostess and took very good care of us. We felt like family! The room was very large and comfortable. The bathroom was every womans dream with a big bathtub. The breakfast was out of this world, with fresh breads, meats, fruits, coffee-tea, and juice. We recommend this establishment to anyone looking to stay in the Florence area without being inside the city. Close enough for day trips throughout Tuscany and some surrounding areas.
