Property is positioned among the palm trees, on the beach of a beautiful cove, on the calm side of the island...The fine sandy beach extends gradually into the water making it excellent for swimming, snorkling and diving....On the Atlantic side there are caves to explore, long beaches and also The Hermitage built by Fr. Jerome in 1908...It is the hihest point in all the Bahamas....Cat Island is still unspoiled and far from developed, but there are fine Bahamian restaurants with wonderful local food...The island is relaxed and informal...Shorts & T-shirts are all you will need....a very well stocked store is about a ten minute ride from the house.....Bahamian people are wonderful and friendly and you will return with fond memories of them.

Wonderful beachfront house for a family

Cat Island reveals itself like a great novel. Not all at once, but once it does, its gets you. The profound beauty of the island, the warm welcome by everyone you meet, the opportunity to discover spectacular isolated beaches makes this a great vacation. The house is quite nice, has all that you need for a vacation -- grill, full kitchen, plenty of ceiling fans, stereo, dvd player and patio. The beach is beautiful and there is snorkeling just a little ways off the beach. I highly recommend this to a self-sufficient family who doesn't need a climbing wall or video games to occupy the kids. We enjoyed fishing, snorkeling, hanging out, hiking and relaxing on the beach building sand castles. Bring along your own food, however, which is quite easy really and have a great time.

We have visited the Henns' house in Bennett's Harbour at least fifteen times over the years. The house is a treasure. The beach -- 1/3rd mile or so of pure white sand -- is lovely and nearly deserted. The sea is clear, the sunsets are spectacular, the fresh conch and grouper are delicious, and the Bahamians are so friendly. If you want casinos, fancy restaurants, loud music, Facebook, and other forms of virtual happiness, you need to go to a different island. Otherwise, the Henns' house is hard to beat!

Two weeks of heaven!

We recently rented the house, Shangri-la on Cat Island in the Bahamas and we enjoyed every minute of it. We will definitely stay there again. The house was perfect for a get-away-from-it-all vacation. We have rented homes in the Bahamas for over 10 years and this was one of our very favorite ones. I know we will return to this quiet, secluded vacation house on a perfect beach on the undiscovered Cat Island.
