Description of the Bernkastel Kues vacation home rental
It is tastefully furnished in keeping to compliment its age - I hate lovely old character properties which are furnished so as to lose all ther character. Interior photos of all rooms are now available.
The house is fully fitted to comfortably accommodate 6 adults/people.
The ground floor has a fully fitted kitchen with oven, microwave, fridge, a kitchen table/6 chairs, a separate Utility Room with freezer, separate washing machine and tumble dryer and downstairs WC.
The first floor comprises a large open plan beamed lounge/dinning room with 3 seater and 2 seater settees plus a single armchair together with a dining table with 6 chairs.
It has satelitte TV (with hundreds of chanels including US, UK and European), DVD and CD players.
The second floor has 2 double bedrooms and the bathroom.
The top floor houses the master bedroom which also leads to a small terrace at the back of the house which has seating for 6 plus a table. The top floor bedroom has a separate wine (or beer!) fridge to save you popping up and down the stairs for replacements.
The house also has free wi-fi connection for guests and a basic PC (Linux OS) ideal for email/internet use.
Importantly in this historic town where parking is at a premium, Haus Anna Maria has two private parking places for cars immediately in front of the house (unlike others I don't charge extra for use of these).
As the house is on ground plus 3 floors, it goes without saying there are a lot of stairs so may not be suitable for everyone.

Area Information
Bernkastel is famous for it medieval market square with timbered buildings dating back hundreds of years.
It is an ideal place for a relaxing break including slow cruises along the Mosel, good restaurants, cafes where you can sit and partake in the German pastime of coffee and cakes or of course sample the regions fine wines and/or beers. There is also a spa town a short drive away where you can relax in the thermal pools.
However if something a little more energetic is more your line, then there are many glorious walks (including various Nordic Walking trails) you can take through the vineyards, you can hire a bike and cycle either in the surrounding countryside or join the riverside cycle path which runs from Trier (a Roman city to the south) to Koblenz to the north where the Mosel and Rhine meet. Nearby horse riding is also available as are a number of open air swimming pools.
For those with children there is a great fun park about 25 miles and there are also a couple of nature parks about the same distance away which they are bound to enjoy.
Bernkastel-Kues has a number of events on throughout the year, from the obligatory wine festival, music festivals, hot air balloon festival, events afloat on the Mosel, a not to be missed Christmas Market and one day a year all the local roads shut to cars and the bikes takeover for their cycling festival.
Luxemburg is only a short drive away and well worth a days visit if time permits.
Bernkastel-Kues is only about 280 miles from Calais so is drivable in a day, or for those who want a quicker start to their holiday, Frankfurt-Hahn, Ryan Air's main German destination is only about a 25 minute drive away - hire cars are available here as well as taxis (pre-bookable in English via one of my external links).
In short the area offers something for everyone, young or old, and for those wanting an active or more relaxing break

We stayed here for three weeks and were sorry to leave. We were very comfortable and there waas so much to see and do. We managed to attend four winefests in three weeks! Trier was very nice and worth a visit as well. The house has very many steps and might not be suitable for people with small children or any sort of physical handicap. Also, some more instructions are needed for the washing machine and dryer. We mostly just hoped for the best. The internet connection was much appreciated. Also the beds were very comfortable. Will recommend to our friends and family.

We recently spent nine days in this charming home. We had a great trip and having this lovely home to come to everyday made it a perfect trip. A lot of stairs so if you have problems with climbing three floors this is something to consider.

Lots of Wine
July 14, 2008
Having chosen the house for its location we were not disappointed. The village is picture perfect and the wine is lovely, and there are so many places to try it. The house is comfortable, clean and well equipped but we spent very little time in it as there was so much to do in the area. We went to the spa close by, the freibad (open air pool) in the village is fantastic, a 50m open air pool that we used daily, the bike hire is cheap and the bikes very good, and best of all the cycle track next to the river is easy as it is so flat. The 2 wine shops closest to the house were very good, the one down the back lne is fascinating as it is cut into the rock and is 500 years old. The guy there gave us lots to taste and as we bought a bottle he did not charge us for the tastes, including an ice wine. The wine museum has a tasting of over 100 wines, well worth a visit! We shopped at Lidl, ate at the Kartoffel Hous and the Pizza Place. The pork butcher on the main street was the best! Go!
Owner Supplied Testimonials

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay in your delightful home which exceeded our expectations. It was in the perfect spot - so central, yet away from all the hubbub.
The house was very nicely furnished and we appreciated all the attention to details.
We particularly enjoyed eating our meals on the charming terrace at the top of the house. Thank you for a wonderful stay."

Sue,
Your Haus is probably the best, and certainly the best equiped, holiday rental we have had in UK or Europe.
We had an excellent week and look forward to returning, perhaps for the Christmas Market next year.

"We are back from our vacation in Germany. Haus Anna Maria was excellent!
Thank you for allowing us to stay there. Bernkastel is just as I remember it.........
The wine and the food is as great as it ever was.
Our baggage was delayed for 3 days.................the Märchenhotel was so helpful in getting our baggage to us. Peter is a great guy.
And, as promised, there was coffee, milk and sugar waiting for us.
You and the house were so nice and we really do appreciate it.
My wife and kids are talking about going back some day ( I do too! ). ;-)
If we do, we will definately look for this house again. Everything was perfect!
Thanks again, Sue. "
