Area Description

Big Sky is located 43 miles south of Bozeman, Montana on Highway 191. Big Sky Ski and Summer Resort is located at the base of Lone Peak, about 4 city blocks from our condo. Big Sky isn't a city. It's a resort community that has three areas: 1)the Mountain Village around the resort and the base of Lone Peak, 2)the Meadow Village which has the new Town Center and the 18 hole Arnie Palmer designed par 72 golf course and last, 3) the Big Sky businesses and restaurants down on Highway 191 south of the Big Sky Entrance. Big Sky boasts access to the Gallatin National Forest and the Lee Metcalf Wilderness Area. In the wintertime, Big Sky and Moonlight Basin offer a North American ski experience that rivals the Colorado resorts without the crowds. Snowmobiling down by the highway, cross country skiing, sleigh rides and tubing are other winter activities. In the summertime, Big Sky has lots of opportunities to get outside. Ousel Falls is a terrific attraction for nature and waterfall lovers. It's a short two mile walk on the trail near the Yellow mules trail head to a spectacular waterfall called Ousel Falls. There are plenty of benches to rest and picnic tables for lunch on the trail to Ousel Falls. The golf course around the Meadow Village offers a challenging course with open mountain views that may cause you to lose your concentration at times. Check out the Hungry Moose market for fine wines, cheeses and the chicken curry salad. I like the coffee at the Blue Moon cafe in the "Blue Mall" in the town center. They always have fresh cream and huge muffins to send you on your way. For your picnic lunch, check out the Wrap Shack for a beans and rice wrap with lots of healthy vegetables and shredded meat. Fishing the Gallatin River at Big Sky is some of the best fly fishing in the region. Look for the brown trout to be hanging in the still pools as they wait for their food to float by or one of your lures float by. Tennis courts, horseback riding, whitewater rafting, monthly concerts at the bandshell are some activities that you can take in the summer time. Downtown Bozeman has art galleries, leather goods and bistros unique to Montana.

Reviews for this vacation condo rental in Big Sky, Montana

Spacious and quite with a GREAT view, March 12, 2008
By Richard Karg (Portland, Maine)
I spent a long weekend at this great condo in January 2008. The place was very clean, spacious, quiet, and has a wonderful view of Lone Peak (day and night). The beds were comfortable, the kitchen was well stocked with all the dishes and cookware we needed, and the two full bathrooms were well equipped and clean. And there was the hot tub on the patio! Each night after a day of skiing we sat in the large hot tub watching the snow cats on the slopes, the lights on Lone Peak, and the star filled sky above. We had the good fortune of meeting the owners; great family. Try this place out; you will like it.
