Perfect location for day trips anywhere in the Black Hills of South Dakota. Mount Rushmore, Crazy Horse, Custer State Park all less than 20 minutes, Mickelson trail access less than one mile.

Thank you for considering a stay at Pine Rest Cabins. We are a small family business situated on the edge of a little valley in the center of the Black Hills National Forest on the Western edge of South Dakota.

Established in 1911 Pine Rest Cabins stands the test of time. Generations of travelers have felt the spirit of our mountain retreat and continue to make the cabins home while visiting the many attractions in our area. Each historic cabin has been cared for and updated for your comfort while new addtions were thoughfully added to pay tribute to our natural surroundings.

The ambiance of history combined with plenty of modern comforts makes Pine Rest Cabins a unique lodging experience.

Area Information

In the center of the Black Hills National Forest you'll be surrounded by beautiful mountains and pines, yet find it easy to get to the many excellent shops, art galleries, restaurants, and other services in our nearby towns.

Your cabin is just 1 one mile south of the friendly mountain town of Hill City, while Custer is only 12 miles the other direction. At the base of Mt. Rushmore you'll find Keystone only 12 miles . Crazy Horse memorial is just down the road from us right along highway 16/385 as well.

Be prepared to fall in love with cabin life and return to the cabins again and again. There is so much to see and do in our area for all ages and abilities. Enjoy any number of tourist attracatons nearbye : the 1880 Train, Dinosaur Museum, Bear Country, Reptile Gardens to name a few. Or simply take in natures wonders such as Wind or Jewel Cave National Parks, Custer State Park or the Badlands National Park. Bike or hike the Mickelson, Centennial, or your choice of numerous trails. Visit nearbye lakes: Sheridan, Sylvan, Pactola, Deerfield just a few of our favorites.

Lovely

We had a wonderful time in this lovely log cabin. The location was perfect - a quiet peaceful setting next to woods. But close enough to town (Custer City), Mt Rushmore and the other Black Hills attractions. The cabin was so pretty and so well equipped, we felt right at home. The only reason I gave it 4 stars instead of 5 was because we had some water issues during our stay.

The Cabin was very nice. It is in a great location. Close to Mount Rushmore, Crazy Horse and Custer State Park. Just outside of Hill City which had excellent dining and souvenier shopping.

Charming, Comfortable and Well Located

We stayed in the smallest of the Cole Cabins and were pleasently surprised with the open design of the spacious bedroom, bath, kitchen and living area as well as the covered front porch complete with a little grill and a table and chairs for eating outside. The cabins are a little close to the highway, but it was not a problem for us in July. The location is close to major attractions and just 5 miles from both Deadwood (gambling, etc.) and Lead, a charming little town where my daughter was performing in a play in a beautiful historic opera house. The cabin was very clean and well stocked - bedding, dishes, towels, etc. We definitely enjoyed our stay at Cole Cabins.

We enjoyed our stay in the Black Hills Cabins. The location was close to all the things we were planning on doing which was a big plus. The cabin was clean with plenty of room and the kitchenette helped save $$ on food. We had an EXCELLENT time!

The 1st day I went barefoot in the cabin and could tell the floors were clean. All the extra touches were noticed...the flowers on the porch, the aspen branches on the curtain rods, as frames, the decor and character of the cottage, ....thank you."
