Escape to Magic Pond!
Do you need to heal? Contemplate a major change? Find a new direction in creative work? Open your mind to your heart in some nurturing way? Every animal has a lesson to teach and at Magic Pond there is the sublime texture of natural wholeness in which to learn. Sensing the invisible ones watching and taking wisdom from those who consent to be seen is a joyous education.

Guests frequently report the onset of vivid dreaming in this place and an uncanny sense of “all-knowing” while in the comforting embrace of the sanctuary. It is a 75-acre paradise flanked by Mars Hill Mountain to the East, a spring-fed pond to the South, a protected lake to the West and the ever-present possibility of aurora borealis to the North. Here is the perfect feng shui arrangement for the unhindered flow and circulation of chi.

Along miles of gently sloped trails, you’ll find a pristine melding of retired organic fields, primordial bog, new growth pines, gurgling brooks and old growth forests: every habitat indigenous to Maine in which almost every creature indigenous to Maine lives. By car, there are two hours of wilderness between the last city (Bangor) and the Magic Pond region.

No one just stumbles on this place– it is not on the way to anywhere. So, if you are still reading and wondering if it’s for you, chances are that it is! Folks who stay here say they had an inkling about it and (as ecopsychologists now very well understand) a feeling of being drawn closer to the northern wilderness by the earth, herself, speaking an ancient intuitive language. (Some also say they were just sick of civilization and needed to sleep to the tune of frogs piping and breathe pure, clean air for a change!)

The Sky Suite

This is Magic Pond’s adaptable accommodation for guests who require exceptional amounts of overhead natural light and wide open space in which to both live and work. The Sky Suite is also available for larger guest parties needing sleeping and gathering space beyond their combined reservation of The Pond and The Woods Suites (which we request large parties to first fill before overflowing into The Sky).

The Sky is located on the second floor of the Studio Cottage and features a second story deck looking out onto a wide expanse of pond, fields and woods, Accessible only by exterior spiral stairs, The Sky was originally designed as the owner’s studio and, thus, is equipped with a double hot plate and toaster oven in lieu of a standard stove. Otherwise, the kitchen is fully functional with a mid-sized refrigerator and all the amenities found in the other suites. The Sky Suite is furnished with a high-quality pull-out queen-sized sofa bed, two easy chairs and a large dining table. The bathroom includes an over-sized seated shower. The space will also easily accommodate a few extra guests with sleeping bags for special, short-term weekend workshops.

In addition, there are numerous work surfaces (which guests are asked to protect with their own tarps, along with the floors, if liquid or other damaging materials are to be used in the space). Additionally, we request that the the owner’s personal storage areas partitioned off within the Sky Suite be respected. Because of the very tall ceilings and large bank of windows, in extreme sub-zero temperatures, those unaccustomed to Maine winters (where we generally accept sweaters as a must) could find The Sky Suite to be less comfortable than The Pond or Woods Suites given the air movements through such a large space.

Area Info
destination & activities

When considering bed and breakfasts in Maine, our guests often choose our accommodations in Aroostook County for several reasons:

Many experience vortex-like energy in the sanctuary, affording guests an opportunity to journey on many levels within the confines of limited vacation time. There are precious few unspoiled places of empowerment left on earth and Magic Pond, for many, has proven to be such a rare place in North America.

Our lodging in Maine is most affordable, our cottages dependably spotless and our support of elder travel, women traveling alone and gay couples indicative of our desire to create a place in the world where diversity is truly celebrated.

Our region is rich with attractions in Maine and things to do but unspoiled by the tourism that has seriously compromised Bar Harbor, for example and the coast of Maine, in general. While tourists spend hours sitting in traffic along Route 1 in Maine every summer, in Aroostook County, a traffic jam is three cars on a hot summer night lined up to turn into the dairy bar.

In many respects, Magic Pond is the ideal Maine rental, accessible directly at high speed north of Bangor via Interstate 95 or over an extended vacation time that allows for meandering up the coast via they typically conjested Route 1. Either way, there are many things to do in the region of Magic Pond for those in search of the ideal Maine vacation, including the idyllic Maine lake for boating, a Maine mountain for climbing and a Maine wilderness just outside your bedroom window.

Oh, did we mention that we’re situated precisely at the foot of Mars Hill Mountain, where sunlight first touches America at dawn?

Magic Pond is surrounded by interesting attractions, including scenic day trips to the very Crown of Maine and into New Brunswick, Canada. We are five minutes from the Bridgewater, Maine, border crossing, so be sure to bring your passport! Please contact event sponsors and attractions directly to confirm continued availability.

Creative Haven

From quilting to whistling, Magic Pond is where creative spirits fly. Guest accommodations are rich with natural light and the grounds ripe with opportunity for painters, photographers and sketchers. We have been the birthplace of memoirs, novels, plays and serious research, the serene atmosphere being conducive to meditation and responsiveness to that small, inner voice so easily lost to the stresses of day-to-day.

The most important resource we offer to artists is the supportive energy felt by many to be emanating from the grounds. If ever there was a true Earth Mother eager to see her children play, invent and artistically thrive, you can find her here. You can expect to not only face your oppositional demons when set truly free to create, but also your buried treasures that are, perhaps, less apt to emerge from the clutter of less naturally perfect, primal surroundings.

Instrument for creative expression

True peace and quiet, but for the voices of a primitive world eager to enrich and guide, are so rare that artistic sensibilities can be stunned by the sudden creative opportunities presented by the serenity of Magic Pond. Take your time…walk the trails, sit and have your lunch by the bog and wait… listen…. breathe… allow yourself to be carried on the bird songs and perfume of the pines and you can be assured that what you create, then, while suspended in love from the earth, will be unexpectedly extraordinary.

As for artistic supplies, the last well-stocked source heading north is A.C. Moore near the Bangor Mall, while more rudimentary supplies can be found at the big box stores in Presque Isle. The Maine quilters offer contacts and meeting times for the Pine Tree Quilters Guild, including those specific to Aroostook County. Musicians will find a music store on Main Street in Presque Isle and crafters, in general, will find numerous hardware stores (including Scovil 3 minutes away for basic needs and larger Ace, Maine Potato Growers and Lowe’s stores in Presque Isle).
