 Mountain Getaway, August 28, 2009
By Robin Forbis (Salisbury,NC USA)
The cabin was very clean and spacious. My children enjoyed the basement as their own personal retreat. The location was also very convenient to shopping and dining. Especially enjoyed the table on the back deck. Only downfall was being asked by homeowner to take trash to local dumpster or cleaning company would charge for each bag they had to haul off. This request sounded reasonable until we got to the local dumpster with our two bags of trash only to find that it is not open on Sundays. Therefore, we rode for three hours with garbage in the back of our vehicle, not so pleasant.
Owner Supplied Testimonials
We have stayed in the Hoffmann cabin on several occasions and find it perfect for our family and friends. Kids hang out in their own space on the lower level, while parents / adults have thier time and space in the main living area. Blowing Rock is one of the best kept secrets anywhere! Everything is close by. We walked to the great shops, restaurants, and parks in the village. Chuck and Mary Livingston, Fayetteville, NC
Skiing was great at both Ski Beech and Sugar Mountain, but avoid the weekends if you can--it's crowded!! Restaurants are awesome with plenty of variety and moderate prices. Don't be afraid of the snow, but front wheel or four wheel drive sure helps. The Hoffmann Cabin was great, especially the fireplace and full, newly equipped kitchen. We stayed in a lot and cooked spaghetti and chili, while the young kids played in the snow outside. Went tubing over at the hill near the entrance to the Blue Ridge Parkway and Moses Cone Mansion--fun for kids of all ages! Beds were comfortable, and the cabin had great ambience--casual and cozy with a fire going to roast marshmellows. The Wanamakers, Fayetteville, NC
We are retired couples from NC that have stayed in the Hoffmann cabin several times over the past 15 years. We love it. The "feel" is a true cabin; the logs are hand hewn, the wormy chestnut walls and cabinets, the fireplace, the covered back porch, and the tin roof on a rainy day; all these things make the Hoffmann cabin special to us. There's lot's to do in the area. We've gone hiking, canoeing, whitewater rafting, and of course lot's of siteseeing and shopping. Everything is convenient in Blowing Rock, and we walk to most shps and restaurants. It's just eight miles down the mountain to Boone, where you can get any and everything; maybe take in a play or a game or a concert at Appalachian State University. Banner Elk, another great mountain town, is about 30 minutes away and offers even more things to do and places to see. For the money, the Hoffmann cabin cannot be beat! If you can't live without the internet, you may want to look elsewhere; and bring your cell phone, there's no phone in the cabin. Otherwise, it's paradise. The Johnson's and the Tarr's of Cumberland County, NC.
