Description of the Boothbay Harbor vacation home rental
Relax in the private, wooded waterfront environment. Experience the daily activities of a working coastal inlet from the expansive cottage windows or the oversized screened porch. Lobster boats, trawlers, sailing vessels, and vacation yachts blend with osprey, blue herons, and wild turkeys to punctuate the coastal landscape. Kayak, swim, fish, sail, motor, paddle or just float in our private saltwater bay.
Merry Island Cottage offers 2600 square feet of living space. The open kitchen/dining/living area features 20’ ceilings, large fir crossbeams and a wall of windows. The main level also includes the master bedroom and bath, a laundry/storage space, an extra ½ bath, a large screened sleeping porch and a deck and multiple entrances into the main living areas. The lower level features a full bath, a guest room, a large bunkroom, and a natural wood porch with entrances to each of the lower bedrooms. The double story layout allows for privacy when needed. Ecologically sound and aesthetically pleasing building choices include a gourmet kitchen with green-labeled appliances, the ICF foundation system, concrete floors with radiant heat, and landscaping with native Maine perennials. The Rais wood stove and stainless steel room fans, assure comfort even on the chilliest nights or warmest afternoons. Washer/Dryer, linens provided, all kitchen necessities including lobster pot, outdoor grill, satellite TV, outdoor and indoor games and activities. Unfortunately we don't allow pets.

Peacefulness Among the Trees!
September 2, 2012
This is an ideal place if you want a vacation of pure rest and relaxation in a beautiful setting. The house is perfectly designed to enjoy all of Maine’s beauty. It is surrounded by trees so the only real sounds you hear are the birds, wind and rain in the trees, or boats passing on the river. We sat on the river watching lobster boats, birds and even an otter. At low tide, we went clamming. It’s also centrally located with only a short drive to visit sites such as Boothbay Harbor or the Pemaquid Point Lighthouse. The house has all the essentials, plus those few little extras that make things nice (excellent WiFi, great kitchen). HIGHLY RECOMMEND!

so beautiful
August 30, 2012
this property is amazing. The views were stunning, as advertised. The house itself is lovely and more relaxing than I anticipated, which is saying something. And then, right on the water...gorgeous. The few negatives are the traffic, which can be ridiculous so time your drives to non-mealtimes, and the couches weren't really comfy (to be fair, I prefer something very soft and taller in the back.) Those are minor points, though. It was a fantastic week.

Wonderfully relaxing retreat!
August 1, 2012
We thoroughly enjoyed our vacation in this charming, special home overlooking the Damariscotta River. The natural beauty of this new , splendidly designed retreat is unusual, and one really feels tucked away in a tree house. Wonderful swimming from the rocks at high tide, and we even launched our kayaks and enjoyed quiet paddles up and down the river. Lovely screened porch for reading; simple, elegant furnishings; fully equipped kitchen that overlooks the river through the trees.

A Wonderful Getaway Retreat!
November 30, 2011
We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at your "gem" of a cottage nestled in the woods overlooking the water! It had everything one could ask for and MORE! Everyday began with awaking to the spectacular sunrises where the sky was ablaze with color over the water. During the day there was a lot to explore in the local area. We went to the amazing Coastal Maine Botanical Gardens in Boothbay and we enjoyed all the activities at the Pumpkinfest event in Damariscotta! In the aftternoon we retumed to the peace and quiet of the cottage and enjoyed all the beauty of nature surrounding us-we explored the beach and sat of the upper deck and watched the lobsterboats return We cooked in the state of art kitchen and in the evening relaxed with a good book or a TV show (we were amazed at how good the sateliteTV reception was and the variety of channels to choose from). Thanks Cindy and Mike for letting us enjoy your incredible cottage and location! us

We had a fantastic time in this lovely lovely home. Staying in this house was my dream come true! The location and house were amazingly beautiful. I have been back to this house twice so far and plan to come many more times.

Damarasotta River Cottage

Place was fantastic. Everything was new and they thought of everything you could possibly need. Open plan was great very good for being together while everyone is doing something different. Only complaints are is the "Dish TV" never was able to get any channel in two weeks. Didn't miss it much though. And the wifi had hot spots and weak signal or none is others upstairs. Went down to the river every day and had a glass of wine while watching the boats go by or the cormorants diving for fish. Carried two extra chairs down for a foursome. Kitchen was terrific and we cooked quite a few dinners. Thoroughly enjoyed our stay.

A happy departure from the ordinary

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay in this outstanding modern house. The owners' attention to detail is apparent throughout -- eclectic artwork, comfortable furniture, to-die-for kitchen, windows so big you feel like you're in a tree house. Everything is new, bright, and clean. If you like a secluded location in the woods and near the river, you'll be happy here. Seven of us shared the house for a week and there was room enough for all.

Wonderful view of the river and woods. Quiet. Terrific kitchen. Comfy beds. A very nice experience for all of us (7).

A REALLY SPECIAL HOUSE
July 16, 2010
My wife and I are from NYC and wanted a quiet week away. We couldn't have picked a better house. Secluded. Silent. The full wall of windows and two decks make you feel a part of the trees and water that surrounds you. We cooked, we finished our books and we visited all the small towns in the area. Great retreat.

Great getaway!

This is a great place for a getaway from all the hustle and bustle of city life. The house itself was REALLY unique and awesome. Also very close to some nice towns. However, what made it really nice were the owners, Mike and Cindy. They took great lengths to make us feel welcome and handled all the arrangements professionally and personally. Would definitely return again!

Secluded and cozy!

The owners of this cottage have put alot of time and energy into it. It's a beautiful home away from home, and it's nice to see trees NOT houses out of every window. It still has some of the comforts of home with a nice flat screen television, dvd player, and cable. We really enjoyed the sun porch and made a few home cooked meals in the beautiful state of the art kitchen. Great stay and will come back again!
