Description of the Bowen Island vacation home rental

Less than an hour from downtown Vancouver, Bowen Island is a 20 minute ferry ride from Horseshoe Bay. The house can be found in a private wooded setting just a few minutes' walk to beaches, the amenities of Snug Cove and the ferry terminal.

Situated up a private driveway, set back from the road, Salmon's Leap provides a haven
for writers, artists or those in search of a quiet, inspirational retreat as well as families wanting to spend the day on the beach or exploring the coast inlets by kayak.

Forest trails and a salmon creek flank the house, and offer miles of walks in the mixed forest of Cedar, Hemlock, Douglas Fir and Arbutus. Local wildlife include great blue herons, tree frogs, woodpeckers ducks, deer and otters.

Area Information

The custom built house comprises 2 large bedrooms upstairs with vaulted ceilings & walk-in closets, the master bedroom with ensuite full bathroom and a den leading off it. The master bedroom also has a balcony which overlooks the forest and creek.

The kitchen & dining room are open plan and lead into the glass fronted living room whose patio doors open onto the front, ceramic-tiled deck.

The house is equipped with a dishwasher, washer & dryer, TV, stereo, DVD player & wireless internet connection.

There is a queen size bed in the master bedroom, queen size and twin bed in the second bedroom and a king size or 2 twin beds in the third bedroom.

There is an additional self-contained studio suite that can accommodate an extra 2 people for larger groups.

Salmon Leap - Bowen Island

My husband and I rented this property for 5 weeks in order to be close to our family who live in Vancouver. We were so pleased with how accommodating the owner was. Bowen Island is a beautiful island just a 20 minute ferry ride from the mainland. The house is a 10 minute walk from the ferry terminal. There are several hiking trails and the community was very welcoming. We managed very nicely without a car on the island. There is a local bus service and hitch hiking is encouraged. The house is very spacious and easily handled our family gathering of 14 adults and 3 children. The kitchen is small and minimally stocked, but we had everything we needed. The open style allows for great visits while preparing meals. The beds were very comfortable and there were plenty of linens provided. Having laundry available was also wonderful. The barbecue is quite small, and the vacuum is old and very heavy. There is Wi-Fi and a great sound system in both the living room and master bedroom. No working TV but we didn't care. Generally, the atmosphere was very relaxing and we thoroughly enjoyed every minute of our stay. The house is very warm and welcoming with its carpets, wood and art. There is a table and chairs on the lower deck where you can relax and listen to the water nearby. We would highly recommend this property to anyone who is looking for a relaxing holiday away from the noise of the city.

Spacious and lovely home

Large, beautiful home in a forested private area. Only the sound of the nearby creek can be heard from both the main floor patio or the private one off the master bedroom. Located nearby forested walking paths either to the ferries or to a lake. The kitchen is on the small side but is fully equipped and accommodated 7 of us cooking during the whole weekend. The rooms and bathrooms are very spacious and clean. Claire was a lovely hostess and we would definitely recommend this place to our friends.

A corner of heaven

I found a gem! It was like staying in a corner of heaven for a week. Waking up to the sound of the rapids from the stream below, feeling encapsulated by the canopy of trees above, nestled in-between in a perfect combination of modern yet rustic comfort. We felt surrounded by nature, inside as well as out. The added touch of found treasures from the Island or maybe elsewhere, small groupings of pictures on the wall that aroused curiosity displayed in out of the way places just waiting to be discovered or noticed. Rustic hard wood and ceramic floors, tall draped windows everywhere and so much more. It all added up to making the house immediately... feel like a home filled with love. The fish ladder outside your door, the nearby beaches and trails, touring the Island... was all more than we had expected and was so appreciated and so enjoyed. Those memories will stay with us for a lifetime. Thank you Claire for a wonderful vacation.
