Very relaxing

July 29, 2014

If you like seclusion, this vacation home is for you. Right in the middle of the woods--- nice and clean---we had a wonderful time. We had a total of 10 people. (6 adults and 4 children) All the rooms were good sized. It is far from home, but worth the trip.

Lovely place!!!

July 22, 2014

We loved the Sanctuary!!! The peacefulness was wonderful. We even had our family come over one day for a picnic and there was plenty of room for everyone and all the kids stayed entertained. We utilized the firepit almost everynight and went fishing almost everyday as well. I loved the fact that all you need to bring is food and clothes and your set. Made for an easy pack and unpack. We will definitely be back again!

Everything you need for a relaxing getaway

July 10, 2014

We picked this house as a nice halfway point between friends. The house is in a lovely, out-of-the way location in a beautiful wooded environment. Our two families found everything to be in great condition. The kitchen was fully stocked with all different sorts of dishes, pans, utensils, as well as things like Saran Wrap, foil, plastic bags, spices, and even popcorn kernels to pop in the movie theater style popper. The closets were also well stocked with towels, washcloths, and sheets. There are so many little extras that make this house a lot of fun. We especially liked the firepit outside, the foosball coffee table, the jacuzzi bathtub, the cornhole game, and of course our 11 year old son loved having a Wii there. Some of our group also enjoyed a nice walk down the path to the creek and pond. There was plenty of room for all 8 of us to be together, and there were also 3 private bedrooms if someone wanted to be alone for awhile. All in all we would highly recommend this house for a fun family getaway.

Wonderful Family Getaway

June 16, 2014

This was our first family vacation(8 adults, 2 teens and 1 child). This home helped to make it a huge success for all! It was very clean and comfortable and stocked with everything. The kitchen had many nice extras including a neat popcorn machine. We loved the large back porch and hearing the running stream. We hiked, biked and fished the pond. The pond was a little disappointing because it is overgrown and not one bite. However the next day we went to the stream and waded, saw tons of tadpoles and finally caught a few fish. There was plenty of space for all of us and even room to find a quiet spot for oneself. We had so much fun all together and I am thankful we picked such a wonderful vacation home.

This was our 17th year of celebrating Mothers and Daughters ...This getaway home as perfect for us. Lots of room, big kitchen, very clean and all the comforts of home. We played some games, did an Easter Hunt, worked and completed a 1000 piece puzzle, laughed, and well eat and eat and eat. We will rent this home again in the future. We loved it.... Special thanks to Debbie and Lee for all your help in making this so great for us. If you are looking for a nice getaway .... this is a perfect choice. In 17 years of renting cabins and homes, this is by far the first one we want to rent again. Thanks again .... Carrie, Linda, Dawn, Ruth, Karen, Theresa, Dorothy, Shelley Fonda, Jill and Vickie ...

Beautiful and Relaxing

December 19, 2013

This home is well-maintained, decorated, stocked with essentials and beautiful. It's a little off the beaten path but if remoteness is what you're looking for...this is the place. It was tastefully decorated for Christmas. It proved to be an ideal meeting location for our extending family from Indiana and Kentucky. We did not get to explore the acreage and pond, but know that it would also be very nice for a family get away during any season. The owners were available if needed, made sure we had good directions but allowed us our privacy. My husband saw 4 deer near the front yard. Memories were made and relaxation was had!

Lee & Debbie Giles

Owner's reply:

Deer are everywhere there!, wild turkeys will run through the yard starting in the spring, along with the stocked catfish starting to bite strong after warm weather arrives!
We did our best to decorate for Christmas, and we are glad you enjoyed yourselves... Come back anytime!

My 3 kids and I stayed for 3 nights, but wished it could have been longer. Lee and Deb have everything you could possibly need and then some. My kids loved making s'mores at the fire pit. My personal favorite was relaxing down on the patio early in the morning just drinking my coffee an listening to the birds. I can't wait to come back!!!

Top Notch Family Getaway

May 11, 2013

We stayed here for the first of what we hope will be many years of vacations with our daughter, son-in-law and granddaughter (and one on the way!). The grounds are beautiful, the house is incredible and the owners are so easy to work with. They have thought of everything to help you have a good time. From the hammocks hanging between the trees, to the patio where I listened to the birds while reading a book, to the fire pit area with the cozy circle of chairs, this property says "come on in, relax and forget about whatever was stressing you out". The house is beautiful and spacious for those rainy days and the property is wooded and beautiful to explore on sunny days.

Excellent Stay!! Wonderful Owners!!

July 17, 2012

First of all the owners of this property have gone out of their way to provide for about every detail. We have rented homes before but none have gone to the extent they have to provide so much. (All we needed to bring were our clothes and regular weekly groceries.) Plus we were so pleased with the owners going the extra mile to provide extra bikes for our family. Thank you!! The house is very nice and set in a beautiful mountain setting. It is well kept and well maintained. It was so relaxing to just sit out on the front porch or the deck and catch up with the other family that stayed with us. Sitting in the spacious family room provided a comfortable atmosphere to visit in as well. My oldest daughter enjoyed laying in the hammock to read. There is a beautiful fire ring area and also a patio. Going for walks or bike rides on the seldom traveled road as it winds through part of Brush Creek State Forest was great. There are also a few hiking trails within a short drive. The kids loved the fishing. I could go on and on. It was just a great time to spend with our friends and family at such a great place. I boast about this place every time the topic of vacation comes up.

Awesome Place to Stay!

May 24, 2012

We were a group of athletes who stayed at the home to participate in the endurance triathlon event in Portsmouth. We wanted a "home away from home" where we could stay as a group instead of being cramped in a dingy hotel room. This property lived up to all of the positive reviews and much more. We had more than enough room for all of us (7) and our equipment. It was true what Debbie told me "just bring yourself and your food" and everything else is provided. Although we didn't have too much down time, it was great to have a comfortable home to relax in. The kitchen was very well equipped and the perfect place to make dinner in, and the downstairs area was so comfy to chill and watch tv and just hang out in. Cell reception was pretty null; however, of all of the rooms, we sometimes got a bar or two of reception standing in the main floor bathroom. Having the home phone to use was also great to be able to get in touch with our families. When we first walked in to a note from Lee & Debbie welcoming us, we knew it would be a great time, and it definetly was a great time had by all of us. We hope to be back again next year and maybe stay an extra day so we can enjoy that fire pit that we didn't have the time to enjoy.

What a find!

April 20, 2012

This place was an amazing escape from our everyday craziness! Close enough to home to prevent us from losing half our trip driving, but far enough away (and remote enough!) that easy access to daily life wasn't a factor. The house was welcoming, stocked with amenities, and the owners were incredibly accommodating. I will definitely rent this property again!

I hesitate to say what I really thought of the home because everyone will want to rent it and it may not be available next time we want to go! It is a beautiful home in a beautiful setting. We fell in love with the porches and the sound of the creek in the back. The kitchen had everything you might need (except maybe ice... the fridge dispenser wasn't working). We took some lovely drives around the area and visited Miller's and Serpent Mound. We had a wonderful time!

Owner's reply:

Go ahead and tell everyone! We will find a way to squeeze you in!.... We have replaced the fridge and the ice is flowing!

A very Serene Sanctuary

March 25, 2011

The place is called The Sanctuary and it lived up to it's name. The house was awesome and very well kept. I enjoyed the covered porches immensely. I would stay here again in a heartbeat. It was a very peaceful setting and everything anyone would need was available, the only things you would need are food and clothes. the rest is provided for you. The kitchen was very well equipped. The jacuzzi tub was very inviting and relaxing after hiking around the property too. I have recommended the house to many of my friends and some of them are looking into staying there as well.

Fantastic view. Fantastic home.

November 16, 2010

My three friends and I stayed at The Sanctuary for a scrapbook retreat. The home was perfectly accommodating to our needs. The only thing we did not have here that we have had at other rentals is internet. It was close enough to drive to the outlet mall a day, drive in to eat at El Charro's, run to Walmart if you need to. Lovely home. We will definitely be back.

Owner's reply:

We are glad you loved our home, and we have added Wi-Fi for your next return!
