Description of the Buena Vista vacation cabin rental

Cute, quaint, and comfortable cabin located at 9500 feet elevation in the heavily wooded, beautiful historic mining town of Alpine, Colorado, and just 3 miles down the road from the well-preserved historic mining town of St Elmo. The cabin is located within about two hundred hundred yards from Chalk creek, and also the beautiful Alpine lake, and sits directly in front of Antero and Boulder mountains. The back of the property is adjacent to the national forest so the cabin is extremely private.

Cabin is fully furnished for a comfortable stay and includes a fully furnished kitchen, and bathroom with shower. All guests will need to bring is personal toilet items and food. All linens, towels, and wash cloths will be provided. Sleeping accommodations are for seven adults and one infant and include: one bedroom down stairs with one double bed, and one bedroom upstairs with two double beds and one single bed.

Note: Cabin has a clothes washer but drying is by a clothes line (which works great and is very fast in the dry mountain air).

Area Description

The scenery here is amazing. There is a gorgeous view of both Mt Antero and Mt Boulder off the front deck. Cabin is adjacent to national forest, is extremely quiet and private, and provides a starting point with access to all the best spots in the area. The cabin is located only 1/4 mile from the jeep road that ascends to the summit of Mt Antero (one of the exclusive locations in the US where aquamarine is found). An advantage also unique to this property is that it provides a starting point for ATV, trail bike, or snow mobile access to all the high country without hauling or trailering. The off-road vehicles can be unloaded at the cabin, and then driven to Mt Antero, Mt Boulder, the ghost town of StElmo, Hancock (town or pass), Tincup pass, and the various alpine lakes such as Baldin, Hancock, Pomeroy, etc.

A general store is located just up the road at St Elmo, and is an excellent place to purchase gift items, and also rent ATV’s for serious exploration of the surrounding high country.

Buena Vista (located 17 miles), and Salida (30 miles) provide all the necessary shopping and have many nice restaurants, plus various interesting shops.

Monarch mountain is approximately 35 miles away and provides excellent skiing and yet is reasonably priced.

The Mt Princeton hot springs pools are located about 9 miles back down the mountain, as well as a convenience store for gas and food. A fine restaurant is also located at the Mt Princeton facility.

Horse stables which provide fantastic trail riding are also located about 7 miles from Alpine, next to the interesting chalk cliffs.

The Arkansas river is excellent fishing year-around, and has an incredible Caddis hatch in the spring, and is located about 13 miles away. Local fishing is on Chalk creek (which flows within a couple of hundred yards of the cabin), and excellent fishing for larger cutthroat trout can be had in several of the high alpine lakes nearby. All of this trout water is accessible by ATV.

Hiking and ATV riding starts at the property and is as good as it gets anywhere in the Rocky Mountains.

By Leslie McAfee (Colorado Springs)
We were lucky enough to stay 2 wonderful nights in this awesome cabin. We had 8 people and we were all very comfortable even though there is only one bathroom. We made it work!! The beds were comfy although small as my husband is 6'5". It was nice to have all the comforts of home and also be able to ride in/ride out without having to trailer the ATV's anywhere. That is an unbelievable benefit that we do not want to do without. Scott met us as we checked in and gave us a quick tour as we were early. I would love to make a few recommendations. It would be nice to have a grill there as we were "camping" and also some current board games would be a nice touch as well. We would definitely use this cabin again as we had a wonderful time and it was absolutely beautiful all around the cabin. Thanks Scott for making our stay so wonderful!! The McAfee Family
