CASA TRES PECES is set in one of the most magical destinations in Costa Rica, the Osa Peninsula. National Geographic calls it one of the most bio-diverse lowland rainforests left in the world. We lived in Costa Rica for 14 years and traveled all over the country and THIS is where you should come. There is no other place like it and our home is the perfect way to experience all the beauty and tranquility.
If you are looking for off the beaten path adventure in an off the grid jungle luxury home, amazing wildlife right outside your door, a secluded cove beach steps from our front door and other incredible beaches within a few minutes walk, we know you will fall in love with Matapalo and Casa Tres Peces. There are 3 beautiful large beaches besides the cove/beach in front of our home that are within a 2-10 minute walk from our house and are completely accessible at all tides.
This beautiful two story open air tropical style home sits facing East towards incredible sunrises on an elevated rock outcropping right on the beach, giving it a spectacular view where the Gulfo Dulce and the Pacific Ocean meet. With 2 bedrooms and 2 full bathrooms it is the perfect getaway for 2 couples or a small family.
Following a grassy, stone trail in front of the house it is only steps to a secluded sandy cove beach that has incredible tide pools (at low tide) perfect for lounging in or taking the children. A canopy tree monkey path runs right across the front of the house where you can watch four species of monkeys jump from branch to branch.
A Swiss Family Robinson-like experience in jungle luxury you will never forget. Enjoy the feeling of living in the rainforest with all the amenities. CASA TRES PECES is situated on the coast in Cabo Matapalo on the very Southern tip of the Osa Peninsula in Costa Rica where the Gulfo Dulce meets the Pacific Ocean. It is an 8 hour drive or 45 minute flight from San Jose and the nearest town is Puerto Jimenez which is 12 miles (20 km) away.
This area is one of the most biodiverse places on the planet with one of the last lowland rainforests left in the world. Besides this, the gulf is one of only four fjords in the tropics and the calving area for both Northern and Southern Pacific populations of humpback whales, a phenomenon occurring no where else in the world.
They say that researchers can typically count 125 different mammals, 250 species of butterflies, 400 species of birds and 750 distinct kinds of trees in only a four square mile patch of rainforest. This means that you are most likely to see an abundance of tropical life even on a short walk down the road.
There are hundreds of bird species, 4 kinds of monkeys, anteaters, sloths, pizotes many reptiles including lizards, geckos and large iguanas and if you are lucky you can catch a glimpse of one of the many cats that roam the area. Don't forget the amazing beauty of the incredible Blue Morpho Butterfly that reminds one of being in the movie Bambi.
The thriving nature the Osa provides is an incredible opportunity to connect with nature in a way that is just not possible in many places. Life is brought back to the natural cycles of the sun.

Fun Activities you can do on your own:
Just a simple walk along beach jungle dirt road can be a fun adventure. You are likely to see so many kinds of animals, insects and birds. You can also explore and get to know all of the beaches in the area that are all within walking distance.
Exploring the tide pools in the secluded beach right in front of the house at low tide. You will be amazed at all the wonders you will find!
Hike to one of the beautiful waterfalls in the area and play in the refreshing pools. Our manager will give you directions.

2 bedrooms, one with a king-size bed and the second with a queen bed, both equipped with fans and lights in the beds and custom mosquito/noseeum netting.
2 full bathrooms one on each of the two levels of the house. The downstairs shower has a beautiful large oval broken tile bathtub.
There is hot and cold running water in all showers.
We provide all linens, towels, liquid soap and dish detergent and toilet paper. Beach towels are usually brought by the guests.
12 volt solar powered lights and power.
Games and cards as well as a limited number of books to enjoy are provided.
The kitchen is well equipped with a commercial size stainless steel gas stove and oven.
Weber barbeque grill on the deck.
Lock up file cabinet for your personal valuables.
The house runs exclusively on 12 volt. We do provide small inverter to re-charge small battery packs. No large plug-in electrical items will work (i.e. hairdryers).
Propane refrigerator with small freezer.
Large cooler available for beverages and ice for your drinks. Pick up an ice block in Puerto Jimenez on your way out to the house.
Potable spring water and a filter system is provided for your comfort.
VHF radio in the house. This is our way of communicating in the jungle. A list of channels is provided.
Manager on site that will help you with all your needs.

This had to be one of the most magical places we have ever been. From the coolest open-air house we have ever seen, the beautiful secluded cove beach, to the tons of monkeys, birds and other animals seen right from our deck and the great manager that really helped us out. We will never forget this vacation and plan coming back soon
We spent the perfect family trip with our 4 year old daughter. The house comforts your soul in this truly tranquil neck of the woods. Our daughter asked us if we could live there forever with the monkeys, macaws, toucans and much more right in your backyard. It feels like you are living in the canopy in style. Make sure to chat up the manager, Jim he is a world of knowledge. Thank you.
We had such a wonderful time at your house. Jim (your manager) was so helpful! Greg had a great fishing day. We read books, went for walks, did the famous walk with Andy - what a hoot! - and very informational as well, saw LOTS of wildlife and took some incredible pictures. Your house is the ultimate for an off the grid location. You have a great sense of style and the kitchen is well stocked and comfortable to use. Your community is delightful. The market night at Martinas was very entertaining. The storm afterwards was impressive too! I can't think of anything we would change except vacations just don't seem to last long enough to do everything you would like to do. Thanks for everything.
Cabo Matapalo is really an amazing little corner of the world and Casa Tres Peces is the perfect place to get to know it from. It's a great combination of being in a remote jungle, with lots of animals and few people, but staying in a very nice home with all the comforts and conveniences. We loved the fact that the house is not enclosed. You can spend your entire time lazing aroudn the house and not feel guilty about not going "outside:. There are also plenty of activities if you have the motivation to do something other than laze around. Also Jim, who takes care of the hosue is very friendly and welcoming which makes a difference. We highly recommend Casa Tres Peces and hope to return soon!
We loved the house, the openness to nature, the layout, the design and everything about it! We also loved Jim, your caretaker who was full of knowledge and passion for the property. Thank you so much. We hope we can return again and spend more time in your magical place.
We had a wonderful time. The house is amazing and the location is full of wildlife. Whether we were surfing, Hiking or just laying around in the hammock, I don't think we have every enjoyed a vacation more than this. Casa Tres Peces seems to be one of the necst rental homes in the area too. You can't go wrong here. Thanks again!
