Description of the Calibishie vacation cottage rental

On a lovely location overlooking the sea on Dominica's northeast coast, these five cottages are an eco tourist delight.
Self catering and totally equipped for short or longer term holidays each cottage is slightly different in size and design. All are spacious and airy with cathedral ceilings and tiled throughout. with full kitchens, bathrooms, sitting rooms and balcony's . There is plenty of space for families in the larger cottages and the smaller cottages provide a romantic getaway for couples.
Solar hot water heaters provide the water for your shower and kitchen . All the cottages except the Studio have cable TV,and CD players/radio and each , as well as the Studio is provided with a cell phone and free wifi for those who have their laptops.
All the kitchens are fully equipped with crockery , coffee makers, juicers etc. Towels and linens are provided as well.

We are on a country lane along the sea and the grounds are planted with fruit trees, flowers and palms. Hummingbirds fly from blossom to blossom with their brilliant colours flashing in the sunlight. With three acres everyone has their privacy to enjoy the outdoors.
The views are wonderful as we look down on Hodges Bay and river with the mountains to the south. The beach is about a five minute walk down the path and there you can find a small reef for snorkeling, sandy beach for swimming and a fresh water river to dive into and rinse off after your sea bath.
The cottages are perfect for the more independant and selective traveler who wishes to be a part of the island experience instead of just observing it.
Sea Cliff is a place to relax, hike, swim, birdwatch and learn about the wonders of the land. Photographers and artists will be delighted with the scenery as will everyone else

Area Description

There are several other beaches within walking distance for swimming as well as places to hike and explore. A lovely secluded waterfall and pool is found about three miles away which provides a perfect spot to swim and picnic. If you walk up into the hills behind Sea Cliff you will find small farms growing banana, citrus , avocado and root crops. The narrow roads wind along the top of the ridges. Parrots can be found nesting in the trees and the views looking over the mountains and down to the sea are truly breathtaking.
Woodfordhill beach and Turtle Beach , about two miles away, are known for the giant sea turtles coming in to lay their eggs. An incredible sight if you are lucky enough to be there at the right time.
The village of Calibishie is about a mile or a twenty minute walk .There you will find restaurants, grocery stores and post office. The people are friendly and helpful so it is easy to make contact and learn about the diverse culture of this island.
The Carib territory is just a few miles south of Calibishie and there you can meet these talented craftspeople as they work at their trade. The baskets and carvings are unique in their patterns and designs. Just a bit further takes you into the rain forest.
For those who like to dive, the Cabrits Dive centre is about 12 miles away in the otherr direction along with the historic Fort Shirley and Cabrits Park.

The local restaurants provide good local food and if you ask in advance they will try to prepare something special for you. Often in the evenings you can hear some impromtu local music as well. The village life is very colourful and alive and can be a delightful experience as people are friendly and happy to share their knowledge of their country and culture.

We stayed in the one bedroom house during our honeymoon. The place was more beautiful than the pictures. Located in the North required lots of driving to the south to see the major waterfalls (e.g. emeral pool, victoria falls), but other than that, it was the perfect place to stay. We always felt safe and the people were very nice. We would definitely stay there again.

We had a fabulous time at Sea Cliff Cottages. All the amenities you would want in your own home, plus a great breeze every night. The four of us couldn't of asked for a better house to rent! The owners and the night guards were so friendly, and quick to offer advice on where to visit- along with giving us fruit straight from the garden in the backyard. I highly recommend this so anyone looking to vacation at the Nature Island!

The first communication made with Gwen regarding Seacliff gave me the impression this would be an excellent choice for me. The studio far exceeded my expectations in every way. It is the perfect size with the perfect view, even in July the breeze kept me very comfortable day and night, while soaking in the view or watching the twinkling stairs. Everyone associated with Seacliff was kind, knowledgeable and helpful as was every person I met on Dominica. The many fruits and vegetables available (most of which were given to me) were scrumptious. The scenery is breathtaking. After living on two Caribbean islands it was truly a life changing experience to step back in time on Dominica. This is a true garden of eden and a paradise that I hope to revisit many more times. We had the good fortune to book a vacation at Sea Cliff Cottages in Dominica. The cottages are perched on a cliff with a beautiful view of the ocean, and a short walk down a hill to the beach. Lovely tropical foliage surrounds the cottages. We were in a two bedroom cottage, with full kitchen and bathroom. There was even a washing machine. The cottage was constructed to incorporate elements of local Carib handicrafts, as well as having tile floors and high, beamed ceilings. It was an easy 20 minute walk to the nearby village to get groceries. The manager, Gweneth, was immediately available to answer any questions. In addition, Pascal, who does some of the work at the cottages, was available to drive us around the island, taking us places that we would not have been able to see otherwise. All in all we spent four memorable days in our cottage above the ocean.

a beach just a short distance from Sea Cliff
Hard to decide which part we loved the most.
We stayed in the studio cottage, it was perfect for 2.
Between the gardens, the view (million dollar!), the proximity to both the beach and the lovely town of Calibishie, we felt like we hit the jackpot. Gwen and Jim are gracious hosts and more than accommodating. We have been back less than two weeks and have already booked for next year.
Cottages were very clean and equipped perfectly for dinning in.
Around 6 or 7 am the bread-man comes with fresh hot bread, what a way to wake up (but only if you want to!). We also loved meeting the people around us. Sea Cliff has a wonderful cast of international guest. We could not have been happier.
