Great family vacation

August 18, 2014

Had the opportunity to spend the week on Canada lake the week after the 4th of July. This place was perfect for my family. A lot of space use of the boats was a big plus. The fishing was excellent right off the shore. My kids and I caught 6 small mouth bass that ranged from 2-6 lbs on senkos. Everything we needed was there for us. I loved this lake and place so much I will be either renting again next year or buying a place of my own. Thanks Rick for the opportunity I appreciate it!!

This Cabin Stole Our Hearts

October 14, 2013

My mother, a friend and myself have stayed in this cabin for a couple days two autumns in a row now. It is a warm, sweet, cozy little haven that is a delight to come home to after a day paddling on the lake or hiking in the bright hills that surround. Rick is a gracious host and ready to assist with anything that comes up. The wood pile is stocked, the heaters warm the house quickly if you're not making a fire, the sky full of stars and the cries of the loons kept us making trips outside after dark. Gloversville is close and interesting historically, and has a great library and food co-op. Vroomans is a bar about a mile away with many characters, and karaoke, and a liquor store in the back . Canada Lake is lovely, and kayaking around is a joy. There's an island you can get out on! We love it here.

Amazing Vacation

August 13, 2013

We had a wonderful time at this cabin. There were six of us. Three Adults and three children. There was plenty of room. The owners took great care to make sure that everything you might need was on hand. I would think of something – look and there it was. A great deal of thought has gone into making your stay pleasant. We had plenty of family visit us at the cabin. At times there were 20 of us there, cooking on the grill, sitting outside on the tables, chairs and enjoying swimming, canoeing and kayaking. Plenty of chairs, tables, lounge and Adirondack chairs everywhere on the property. The available croquet, volleyball, badmitten, and bocce on the expansive lawn kept the kids active and having a great time, even our most militant computer kids. The beds were comfortable and plenty of fresh and comfortable linens and towels were available. The washer and dryer made it easy to keep up with the laundry. The kitchen was cute, full size fridge and stove made it easy to prepare meals. All the dishes, pots and pans, cooking items, and serving dishes you will need are there. The weber gas grill was perfect for all the hot dogs, hamburgers and chicken we cooked throughout the week. The large table in the living area was perfect to eat, play games or use our computers with available WiFi. HiDef TV in the living room was very nice. But why watch TV!! The cabin is on a small very lightly traveled road. The drive way takes you a 150 feet from the road, through a wooded area from the road, which makes the location quiet and private. I was concerned about the bunkhouse. I was afraid it would be too far from the house. However it is very close, and the previous review about the path from the bunkhouse to the cabin being wet has been resolved by the owners by placing pavers between the two. The bunkhouse has heat, lights, a TV, a table for games. It’s very cozy. The owners provide wood for the fireplace inside and the firepit by the lake. We cooked many marshmallows while there. The canoes and kayaks are wonderful and the owner has cut a great launch site into the lake edge that makes taking them out a breeze. I know I am gushing. We chose this cabin because it was very close to family that we were interested in visiting. But I would go there again in a minute. Our only regret is we had to leave. I am going to contact them to book my next visit. Thanks Rick and Linda!

No fish in NY

July 26, 2010

We went to try out the fishing. NY does not stock fish. The waters are empty of any fish. We tried hard for six days. We caught 1 northern pike. BUT our cottage made up for the loss of fishing experience by being on a quite lake with great neighbors and wonderful hosts. If you go during a rainy season, might I suggest you bring boots. you will have to wade through water if you will be sleeping in the bunk house. But once inside you will be very comfortable. There are no air conditioners but the fans supplied helped out just fine. Our hosts were full of information about the area. They helped us get our truck looked at when we thought we might have had a problem with it. turns out all was well. They pointed us in the right directions for dining and area attractions and gave us full use of there pontoon boat, kyacks, canoes, and life jackets.
