Area Information
The "occupied area" of the peninsula stretches from the park entrance to Salinas Park. The Cape offers the tranquil waters of St. Joseph Bay on one side and white sand beaches along the Gulf of Mexico on the other. The area is known for great fishing, scalloping and a relaxed family setting. Port St. Joe is a ten-minute drive and offers quaint shopping, a full-service marina and coastal restaurants. Cape San Blas and Indian Pass areas are considered low-density, low-rise areas.

Beautiful place to get away from it all

This is a great unit in the quaint and pretty Barrier Dunes community for a couple or small family. The home is convenient to the beach, has a comfortable living set up, is clean and dog friendly. There were no pet odors or fleas. The spacious deck is great for grilling out and sunning. It was so hard to leave this place! We will be back again.

Gary the owner is very quick to respond to inquiries and tried to remedy the one problem we had. (The cleaners no showed) he offered us several options which we appreciated. The one bedroom townhome on 3 levels is showing its age. The carpet is older, not all the burners work on the stove, but who needs them all when your on vacation. The grill worked great and he provided the gas. The towels are old and not fluffy. The bedding is older. But the bed was comfortable and we slept well, the shower had great water pressure and plenty of hot water. We had tons of room for the two of us and two dogs to stretch out. There is a balcony off the master bedroom on the top floor and another off of the main floor. Parking is under the building and large vehicles may barely fit. Since we only had one car we could easily store our kayaks and bikes in the parking area and back the truck in. But if your coming with multiple cars be aware you all must park in the one driveway under the house. There is a hose too, handy to wash the dogs off after the beach. The entry has multiple hooks so we could drop our shoes, leashes etc, there before going upstairs, very handy. The photo is really the view off the back deck - you see the pond, and the palm trees and the gulf beyond. Great location. Dog walk areas close by and are kept clean all the time. Awesome dog friendly. In the complex there is an area to wash your boat. The complex is older but very well maintained. Lots of mature landscaping, nice ponds and boardwalks, 3-4 beach access points. Bring dish soap (has a very small dishwasher that can work if you put a lot of detergent in) but its easier to hand wash. Bring hand soap for bathrooms, hair dryer, Bring toilet paper, others had left some paper towels and some garlic salt and garlic pepper. We ended up just using grocery bags for trash bags in the small cans. Bring a beach umbrella to use in the table on the deck. Gets hot out there in the afternoon. Bring pillows if your fussy. Overall - he gave us a great deal for a week, so we were happy for the price we paid. We didn't stress about the dogs since the rugs and everything is a bit worn. It was comfortable, didn't smell bad. So we would definately come again if we got another great deal like we did.

This is indeed a great place to stay. We stayed Dec. through most of march and had a wonderful time. The panhandle is a bit cooler than mid florida but the tranquility of the area more than makes up for it. The state park and paved bike trail just outside the gate were exactly what we were looking for. Another trip to the cape will be on our agenda soon. Thanks to Gary for making our winter the best that it could be.

This home was clean, well looked atfer and the owners were most co operative and caring due to ill health while on vacation. We stayed for 3 months and will go back again next year. All the people were great, the beach was clean and not crowded. The Trading Post had the best pizza and steaks.

Dog friendly beach at its best. We planned our trip around our 10 year old Golden Retriever who loves sand and beaches. Overall, oure stay was excellent, however, the unit was not cleaned upon arrival and linens not cleaned, but the owner made it right and we appreciated it! This trip was more important than we realized, our Golden past away this last week and am grateful to have had the opportunity to spend the quality time on Cape San Blas!

This is a great spot to stay. The house is 200 steps from the beach. It is a very accomodating home. Mostly everything you need is right at your fingertips. Would definitely go back and stay there again.

This was truly a great deal on the cape. My family and I went in July and while the rain did try to damper our experience it was great to be in a condo and not a hotel. To be able to relax and not be on top of one another is a plus! The appliances in the condo worked great, had no complaints other than the telephone couldn’t get a dial tone but that could have been the user and not the phone itself, may have been due to the wi-fi set up don’t know. The condo is literally about 200 feet from the water and near both pools one at the beach and the other at the tennis courts (which no one really used but I preferred since there was maybe 2-4 people verses the other). There is no phone service, literally on the whole peninsula, may be able to pick up two bars if you are lucky so if you really need to get away go to Cape San Blas!

This review is long overdue, but we are still mesmerized by the experience we had. We were looking for a serene vacation spot away from the city and it was perfect for us and our small dog. Being pet friendly was a huge plus! We happily spent hours lounging on the beach or sitting on the back deck taking in the beautiful scenery. It was truly a joy. The Brown's were a pleasure to work with and honest to their word in everything they promised. We hope to come back soon and highly recommend it. Thank you, and God bless.

After arriving the same day as Tropical storm Debby, we had a few days of nasty weather. However, the comfort of this rental made the time go by easily. Due to its spacious layout, the kids were not too cramped like other places we had been and they did not complain of having to be stuck indoors until the storm passed. Rental 441 is a perfect location to the beach and pool. It has all of the necessities required for cooking and bathing; including a washer and dryer. The ponds were beautiful. Gary was very helpful in helping me make my last minute arrangements and he even gave me the best traveling directions from our home in West Virginia. I appreciate everything he has done to make this the best vacation possible and I have already recommended this unit to others. We have found a new vacation paradise -- thanks Gary and God Bless!

Very Relaxing

I stayed the week of June 16th with my three sons 16, 12, and 11. We enjoyed having everything we needed on site. We fished from the surf in the morning, cathing lady fish, pompano, flounder, etc. In the afternoons we enjoyed time in the two pools and the tennis courts. One added bonus was cathing large mouth bass out of the small ponds on site The townhome was well equiped and very comfy after long days on the beach.. Thanks Gary for a very memorable vacation, we will be back, hopefully soon.

Condo with a View

My better half and I spent a week at Barrier Dunes in May and hoped for a relaxing vacation.....as it turned out we rode bikes thru the state park, caught fish off of the park entrance to the bay, caught fish down by the lighthouse (a must see) hiked for miles on the gulf side with narry a person in sight, caught crabs on the bayside and pretty much wore ourselves out.....we needed a vacation from our vacation. The condo is perfect for a couple or small family with decks up and down....views of the sunset every night and exotic turtle ponds. We plan to return every year....we love the wildness and beauty of the park and the cuisine of our own labors.

As a mother of small kids and on a tight budget, I was really picky when I searched the web for a place to rent for my family for vacation. I looked for something that made me feel like my family would be safe and our belonging secure while staying there. I wanted something pretty close to the beach and the swimming pool because that was the two places we were planning to spend most of our time. The kids sure didn’t want to walk a mile and my husband didn’t want to have to carry the umbrella, chairs, cooler, etc any further that necessary. I wanted something that felt homey and comfortable after a day in the sun. And yes believe it or not I wanted to be able to prepare the meals for my family. Vacations are supposed to be filled with lots of smiles and laughter but I was looking for a little bit of peace and quite too. A little sit on the deck with my man and watch the sun go down over the ocean peacefulness. I found all I was looking for and more when we stayed at the condo we rented from Mr. and Mrs. Brown last week. The condo is located in a gated community so I felt pretty good about the location. The grounds and pool area were kept very clean. I am not good at distances but we were very close to the beach and pool area. I’m talking a short walkway and across the drive. That is it….. One of my kids favorites was the outdoor shower to rinse off the sand and the large garden tube upstairs. With the full kitchen we could stock up and keep our favorite snacks and foods right on hand. After tucking in the little dreamers my husband and I could slide out on the upper deck outside our room and watch the sun go down and talk about how great the day was. We have been home less than 12 hours and can’t wait to get to rent the condo again someday. Thanks

Just returned from a great week at Cape San Blas!! We've stayed at Barrier Dunes many times, but this was the first time in this condo. It was very clean and well-equipped. Close to both the pools and the beach. Owners were great to work with. We will definitely rent from them again. We were very comfortable in this condo. We love Cape San Blas, the uncrowded beaches, the restaurants in Port St. Joe, Mexico Beach and Appalachicola. We can't wait to come back!

Perfect Escape for Dog Lovers

Our first beach adventure with our 15 month-old miniature Aussie and it turned out to be an experience that exceeded our expectations. Great weather, perfect beach, met lots of friendly dog-loving people, and the condo accommodations were more than satisfactory and happily met our needs. My wife noted that the condo was 'dated' and may not have been updated since the late 80's, but from a man's perspective it met the needs, the plumbing and AC worked well and the bed felt great after a day of beach walking and sightseeing. I didn't even care that the condo did not have a flat screen TV, because we were only interested in watching TV in the mornings for the news and the weather forecast. We had a great time and our dog loved the beach (he just wasn't real crazy about the salt water or the daily baths to remove the sand.) Overall, we loved it. We will be back and are definitely looking forward to another visit to Cape Sand Blas.

We loved this place! The area is so beautiful and loved the fact that it was not so commercial as most beaches. My family and my dogs had a wonderful time. The condo was great and the owner was super great to work with. I would most definatly go back a thousand times. :-)

Best Deal On the Cape

This Barrier Dunes condo is the best deal on the Cape. The website is accurate and the owner is easy to work with. The condo is spacious and equipped with everything needed, including a gas grill. The master bath has a garden tub (an unexpected bonus), a separate shower, and plenty of hot water. The gated complex is well kept and it’s a short walk to the beach via a choice of boardwalks. We saw dolphins on multiple days and one came within 20 feet of where we were in the water. The sunsets are perpendicular to the shoreline, and they were awesome every night but one. A crane joined us during one of them. The beach was not crowded and the state park is an enjoyable walk on the beach. Our only challenge was the oven/stove that was old and a bit tricky to use, not uncommon at the beach. The ice maker was abundant and restocked itself daily, also uncommon at the beach. All in all a great getaway, we will be back.

End of the road, Perfect!

You're at at the end of the road when you get here. Well, almost, there are a few more homes beyond you . And, of course, the peninsula ends in the pristine state park. You are twenty miles from a real grocery store, pharmacy, etc. Cell phone service is spotty and you straddle two time zones. Oh, those twenty miles are two lane roads hemmed in by tall pines most of the way. When you get there, you will find that Cape San Blas is a bit of unspoiled Florida, the way Florida was before it was scarred by high rise condos. The beaches are wonderful; you can walk the beach from Barrier dunes to the state park. You can bike the length of the Cape and hike wilderness trails in the state park. The unit is a spacious one bedroom town home-you will have to carry everything upstairs as you do in every town home. The kitchen is well equipped-decent pots and pans,. knives that cut and flatware that doesn't bend. The dining and living room are tastefully furnished and there is a fireplace and a deck overlooking the pond. Upstairs is a comfortable king bed, walk in shower and another deck with a gulf view. In sum, this is the ideal space to experience "old Florida."

We just returned from a week at Cape San Blas with our grandkids and had a wonderful time. The condo was great, even though it was only one bedroom and one and a half bath, it worked out perfect for us. We worked out shower time upstairs and the downstairs bath was convenient for everyone. The kids(17, 16 & 13) loved having the entire downstairs to themselves at night, and we enjoyed our quiet time upstairs. We carried an extra coffee pot for upstairs and had coffee on the balcony each morning which was so relaxing, we didn't go downstairs until we got hungry. There are three stocked ponds that the kids enjoyed fishing in, our granddaughter caught a four pound coi and had so much fun catching it! We spent lots of time at the pool and at night we enjoyed the heated pool or waking on the beach watching the awesome sunsets! I am looking forward to my next trip and I will be sure to stay at this condo. You cannot find a better price anywhere!!! The owners are great to work with! Thanks to the Brown's for sharing their beach home with us!

I stayed here for 5 days in June and thoroughly enjoyed Cape San Blas and especially this townhouse. It was clean, great location within property to beach and pool!
