Donna's Carlsbad Beach Cottage

Donnas little beach cottage was more than we expected. Donna and her husband Joe treated us like family and made us feel like we were part of the neighborhood , locals , not tourists. The decor was fresh and beachy and fun ! They supplied us with everything we needed for a getaway , including a free parking pass for the Tamarak State Beach , also good for all the state parks and beaches. The best part was that we were able to bring along an important part of our family , Muffin . Each night we celebrated the sunsets and will treasure those memories forever. The day after arriving home , my husband left for Afganistan.

We spent some winter months in Donnas Beach Cottage and found the ambiance of the cottage delightful. I was able to bring my work with me and sit by the big window and watch the waves while I worked . The cottage was supplied with a nice flat screened TV , cable & wireless internet connection.
My huband golfed nearby and after we watched the sunset we would dine in the nearby resturants and walk around the village feeling very safe . I was facinated by the shops in the Village , so unique. Later I discovered the OUTLETS Mall just south of the cottage . We can't wait to returned and have already reserved for next year.

This was our 2nd stay in Donna's Beach Cottage and it was fun to see the excitment as our two little boys bailed out of the car and ran for the hammock and said they remember this little cottage from the summer before . It has become our home away from home . Many of our Arizona friends book during the same two weeks so we can all hang out at the beach together . It is soooo worth the long drive to the little cottage we call home !

We did something fun this summer for a family reunion . We discovered two other beach cottages almost next door and combined them with Donna's cottage and then Donna said she would rent out her maid's quarter located in the back of her property for our grandmother so she could have a quiet getaway of her own. We gathered often at the beach and yet everyone had their own private cottage while we had our family reunion. It worked great and hope it can happen again in two years.

We recently stayed in Donna's Beach cottage and loved every thing about it . It is a very happy little cottage . After visiting with the longtime members of the neighborhood, we learned a little bit of history about this little house. Years ago a local music man named Arno Kimsey recorded Jewel in this little cottage , long before she became famous. As you enter the blue bedroom with the canopy , you will see the big lights , left there as a reminder of those days the room was used as a recording studio. Then we learned that ,Sean Watkins of the emmy award winning group NICKEL CREEK , livedin the cottage for five years while he wrote music and recorded. His favorite bedroom was the one with the bay window that looks out to the ocean . What once was his recording studio is now the maid's quarters out in the back and Donna let us rent it for a few days while my Dad came to visit us so he could have his privacy. Since we are fans of both NICKEL CREEK and JEWEL , we were glad they shared this with us . I am a writer and I can see why this little cottage can inspire a person . Loved my stay and hope to return often !

We wish to express our graditude to all of you who have been so kind and gracious to us during your stays in our cottage during our first year of experiencing vacation home rentals . It has been both a pleasant and exciting adventure getting to meet all of you . We are amazed at the great people you are and how you have enriched our lives and blessed our cottage. Some of you have even been so kind to leave little additions that we find after you have left for home . What is even more amazing is that you have always left our little cottage so clean .....how thoughtful of you ! We wish to express a huge thank you to our dear friend and neighbor , Barbara Ryan who inspired us to take this leap , as she is the owner of THE BEST SPOT IN CARLSBAD and we work together to help make your stay be the best possible .
