Description of the Casco vacation cottage rental

In the Sebago Lake Region of the Western Maine Mountains, the Crooked Cottage is absolutely adorable. This is a weekly rental ONLY for July & August. Waterfront on the Crooked River, from here you can paddle to either Sebago Lake or Long Lake/Brandy Pond or the Songo Locks. Better than renting hotels or accommodations in Maine which force you to leave to have fun! Have fun hiking to the very nearby Mountains of Maine and New Hampshire. I call Crooked Cottage the "Illusion of Seclusion"! It is minutes from most attractions & restaurants. Shop at the Outlets in Freeport Maine and N Conway New Hampshire, both about 35 - 40 minutes away. Ocean beaches within 40 minutes but why go there when there is water everywhere here! Go antiquiing all over the place. See beautiful Maine and New Hampshire fall foliage. Kids park (Santa's Village) in Glen NH is only 40 minutes! Excellent and very reasonable restaurants all very close- how close - within 2 minutes drive! Or even walk to a few in less than 10 minutes. Barbeque gas grille & firepit. Very nice wooded walking trails within 5 minutes walk. Leave your car in the driveway if you want. Get groceries on the way to the Lakes Region of Maine and enjoy the full kitchen with oven, stove, microwave and all kinds of appliances- pop corn maker, blender for those frozen umbrella drinks, toaster & waffle maker! Outdoor dining area & gas grille, Adirondack chairs & water toys for the kids. Perfect for families or for a romantic vacation for 2. Outdoor shower with hot water too! Hiking, kayaking & outlet guides are all in the cottage along with area maps & directions. Safe area for kids since the water is not swift & there are many shallow swimming areas. Want to get a bit more wet-go dip in the deeper swim holes! Great river fishing or head over to Long Lake or Sebago Lake- both minutes away. Canoes & kayaks can be rented locally & even delivered. Paddle from the back door over to either Lake. There is satellite TV/DVD player/CD player & stereo, music, VCR player, games, books, etc. All rentals can come with full linen & cleaning service after you leave (for additional fee). Dogs allowed with prior permission & additional deposit. Come & have a blast. Here you have the "Illusion of Seclusion" yet are very close to everything. Or just hang in the hammocks! All here in the Sebago Lakes region & Western Mountains of Maine!

Area Information

The surrounding area is chock full of all the things you want to do when visiting the Western Maine Mountains & Lakes Region. Weekly rental ONLY for July & August. Boating, kayaking, canoeing, sailing, swimming, all water activities both river & lake! Antiquiing, hiking, walking, restaurants & outlet shopping in Freeport Maine & N Conway NH. Everything is very close!

Not part of a bunch of cottages there is only one nearby neighbor. Nice private little place for a relaxing vacation! Easy & fast access to groceries, restaurants, shopping, outlets, lots for families or couples. Excellent mountain hiking- close to hiking trails. Write for more information. See "reviews" too.

Sit in jacuzzi hot tub with river view! (if available, additional charge for use of hot tub/jacuzzi). Large outdoor shower with hot water too. Kayak & canoe are by rental only- it is not a free amenity- these rentals are not on site-there are rentals nearby which will deliver & pickup. I can give you the information if you'd like to arrange this in advance.

There is an optional linen package available if you don't want to haul all your own- includes European feather beds for all beds, all sheets, comforters, beach towels, bath towels & bath mat, all kitchen towels & paper towels & TP. Linens listed above in the description are only available with the linen package for an additional fee. The woodstove is closed for the summer & fall season. There is a firepit & an outdoor woodstove.

There is an amusement park about 10 minutes away which features bumper cars, bungee jumping, speedway racing, all kinds of games & fun & in the winter is also a tubing park! outlet shopping is also very close - about 35 min to either Freeport Maine or N Conway New Hampshire. Lots of rock climbing at Cathedral ledge in N Conway NH. Hiking, canoeing, kayaking, sailboats etc as this is in the Lakes region of Maine. Very fun authentic Mississippi style paddle boat 2 minutes away on Long Lake.

A great spot for a quiet get-away. Best of all, the dog can come, too. My husband and I loved morning coffee on the front deck watching the river flow. The hummingbirds are a delight, and, in fact, we were inspired to install our own feeders at home. All in all, it was a wonderful week that will long be remembered.

Love this cottage - away from it all & only 2 minutes to Naples. If you want to be away & close to the Lakes Region, then Crooked Cottage is for you. Great kitchen, cosy living (w/ cable & DSL), awesome property on Crooked River, excellent eating w/i minutes & a perfect cottage area... Location, location, location.

This was my fourth year staying at Crooked Cottage. My two Beagles and I absolutely love the tranquility and simpleness of the cottage life. My dogs and I enjoy a swim in the river or just laying around in the hammocks. There is a feeling of being in the woods alone and yet the security of civilization being only a minute away. The cottage is comfortable and cool. The fragrance of the woods, the vision of the quiet river flowing peacefully by the back yard, the smell of hamburgers on the grill or breakfast on the stove in the kitchen, coffee on the front porch in the morning, the shade, the sun, the gentle breeze - all help to make my stay so relaxing and restful. And oh, the hummingbirds are absolutely delightful! The cottage is cute and cozy with all the amenities to make it comfortable and easy and yet still have the feel of camping. The outside shower is unbeleivable! The hot tub in evening is a perfect way to end the day. Can't wait until I return again (and again, and again,...).

OK this description is apt! The owner told us the cottage is small but sleeps 5 in 2 bedrooms & that is correct. It was better than described in the listing! Complete right down to a waffle maker the place was charming. Decorated in Maine rustic style with moose & pine cones- the beds were all furnished with feather beds- which I had never slept on before!! Nice touch. All linens were pretty new & all in great shape. Quiet neighbor (there is only one) since they live in another state & we never saw them. We woudl go back again- we had 2 adults & 2 kids with us. Place is perfect for families or couples alike. You'll be happy at how you feel far away but you can get anywhere quickly- you have to take teh River Queen- Mississippi kind of paddle boat on Long Lake- about a 2 minute drive.

We loved Crooked Cottage. Aug 2006 week . We had a 7 yr old with us who had a great time splashing around on the small private beach- it really is just a 1 minute walk for easy access- Crooked Cottage was elevated above the water which made for nice evening camp fires! The place was spotless & had everythign the owner said and then some! We found a box of outdoor toys & water toys for kids which our kid loved. There is only 1 nearby neighbor who we did not see at all & lots of space with no traffic for our child to ride the bike. We found the place small as we knew it was and charming & indeed "adorable" as the owner called it. We'd definitely go back again.
