Description of the Cashiers vacation cabin rental

Step back into yesteryear with the all the modern conveniences of today in this quaint Log Cabin nestled amid the Nantahala National Forest. This cabin is so cute you won't ever want to leave! The completely private backyard has a small pond and waterfall to help you unwind! It is conveniently located right in the middle of Cashiers and Highlands (about 11 miles to either). Both towns are fabulous! Shop til you drop for anything you could imagine, and dine with the best! Master chefs and fabulous restaurants abound, or stay back at the cabin and cook in your fully equipped modernized kitchen!
There are two bedrooms (both upstairs). The master bedroom has a fabulous king size bed and the second bedroom has an equally comfy queen size bed. (We are fanatics when it comes to sleeping well on vacation! Comfort is very important to us, as well as the comfort of our guests!) There is a wonderful double reclining sofa and "bubba" recliner in the living room for total meltdown after a busy day of hiking, exploring or shopping in Cashiers or Highlands! The livingroom has a beautiful stone fireplace and an ambience that takes you back in time. The covered front & back porches have rocking chairs, and a dining set. Enjoy your dinner outside, and melt into a rocking chair, or simply play checkers! Later in the evening, cozy round the fire pit in the totally private back yard in a big comfy adirondack chair.
If you are a nature lover or a hiker, you will absolutely love it here. We are less than two miles from the trailhead of Ellicott Rock Wilderness Area of the Nantahala and a short hike from the Chattooga River, made famous in the movie "Deliverance".
The cabin is also a short distance from Franklin, Bryson City and Cherokee. And you're about an hour from Asheville.
What are you waiting for! I promise you'll love it and come back again and again!

 Relaxing, October 19, 2009
By Heather (NC)
This cabin is adorable; it has a nice homey feel to it. It's a very nice place to relax when you're needing it. My boyfriend and I stayed for two nights for my birthday and we were not ready to leave. Both the fireplace inside and the fire outside were warm and beautiful. The view of the forest is really pretty (we went during the fall so it was especially nice to see all the colors changing). This was a nice get away, I recommend it, and I plan on returning myself.

If your wondering the cabin is as advertised ... photo's are great on their site ... we didn't have a ton of time to kick back and relax due to a wedding in Highlands but were able to hike on Sunday ... the area is a great base for many different hikes if your into that type of thing ... the cabin was so quiet ... we loved listening to the rain from the porch ... the beds were wonderful ... stairs are fine once you use them a few times ... and of course the dishwasher was a great surprise ... MJ and Scott were wonderful to work with ... deposit was returned with out delay ... the folks that live on the road were great ... not that we saw but two cars the whole time we were there ... so take a week or weekend and relax ... thanks for the great stay ... Barbar and Paul ...

This cabin should be listed in your Top 10 cabin's to rent. Private, adorable and a great place just to get away from everything. Great waterfalls within minutes, easy access to view and relax. very convenient to both Cashiers and Highlands if you wish to shop and eat.

I can't imagine a better base for a week (or two) of exploring all the natural wonders of this area. For those who want to spend a week exploring the Ellicott's Rock Wilderness Area, hiking, and fishing the Chattooga - this is PERFECT. If exploring the mountain back roads by car, or mountain bike, and seeing all the amazing waterfalls is more appealing - this is the perfect location for that too. But you don't have to rough it - the cabin is equipped with all the conveniences you could need - and shopping is convenient, and just the right distance away, in Cashiers. I'll admit I have a bias in favor of the Cashiers - Whiteside Mtn - Highlands area, having spent a week or two there in many of the summers of my youth. What I've always longed for was to find a remote, tucked away cabin in the area, which was not part of one of the mountain golf club developments. Now I've found it in MJ's wonderful cabin - and we're planning to be back there soon for another relaxing week.

Where to begin? This little rustic cabin was such a unique surprise- the ideal setting and comfortable ammenities were absolutely perfect. This was an ideal cabin a family weekend in the mountains. While cozy and small, the floorplan easily accomodated the three of us. We enjoyed returning each afternoon to make a campfire, read, play games and prepare gourmet dinner each evening. Thank you for offering a lovely mountain retreat! SUSIE, MARK & AMELIA GRACE DOWDY - Atlanta, GA

A Home in the Mountains, November 2, 2008
By McDowell family (Matthews, NC)
What an incredible experience we had in the western NC mountains, and this cabin was the perfect headquarters for our adventures. We spent the weekend viewing waterfalls and hiking in some of the most beautiful areas in our state, and it was great to finish our day with a hot meal cooked up in our cabin retreat. This place was so far over our expectations that I can't properly communicate how perfect it was, and I would highly reccomend it to anyone planning a visit to this area. Thank you so much for a memorable vacation!

 Peaceful Setting, October 21, 2008

My wife and I really enjoyed our stay in your cabin. The location was great! We spent our days hiking nearby waterfalls and our evenings relaxing around the fire. Although the cabin was situated in a remote mountain setting, it was close to shopping and restaurants in Highlands and Cashiers. We plan to return next year for another enjoyble time. S&J

The perfect getaway!, October 21, 2008
By Meghan Rice (Atlanta, GA)
My husband and I wanted to show my father, who lives on the west coast, how beautiful the mountains here are in the fall. We couldn't have picked a better place! This cabin was absolutely perfect for a getaway. We enjoyed eating dinner on the back porch to the sounds of a campfire and waterfall and my morning coffee tasted better in the comfy chairs in the morning. There is a lot to do around the area; but just relaxing at the cabin was wonderful too. My husband and I will definitely be back, and I would recommend this place to everyone!!

Best Rustic vacation!, September 29, 2008
By Trish Coughlin Higgins (Atlanta, GA)
My husband & I were seeking a last minute getaway when out of town company canceled unexpectedly and we already had time off. So, we looked at a bunch of cabins and pictures and loved this one. MJ graciously allowed us to book our reservation at the very last minute and we had a wonderful time. On Sunday we spent the day reading and relaxing - me in the hammock & my husband in the recliner watching football. As someone tethered to a blackberry 24/7 (and in the news business no less) it was great that the cell phone didn't ring all weekend! We spent Saturday in Highlands shopping and had great pizza at the Pizza Palace and a fabulous (cheap!) breakfast in the Main Street Pharmacy - they have 7 tables in the back and fantastic blueberry pancakes & biscuits. A great cabin, a great weekend and great people in MJ & Scott who make it all possible. ~Trish

Our weekend at the charming cabin was just perfect. We booked late and we felt lucky to have found such a wonderful place for our weekend getaway! The cabin is located just minutes from Cashiers and Highlands, both great for shopping and dining. The cabin is well equipped and the beds are very comfortable. We certainly recommend the cabin and we will consider renting it again ourselves!

 As advertised!, November 9, 2007
By Judee Krom (Dallas, TX)
The cabin was comfy and secluded as advertised. It had all the amenities needed to have a relaxed get away. The owners even provided the fixin's for a smoky mountain breakfast and a bear print provided by a local artist. The area was beyond our hopes and there were many hiking trails and places to see and photograph.

"The Hummingbird House" (9/05)

I'm so glad my friend, Linda found your ad on the internet....it was the perfect cool-mountain experience; so different from our long, hot Florida summer. Once we found the cabin, we settled right into your welcoming surroundings. The comfortable beds, thirsty towels and crackling fire were just perfect after a day of local explorations. We'll be back for sure!!!
A. P.
PS Many thanks for the breakfasts...........
Thanksgiving Weekend, 2005

We loved this little fairy-tale cottage, twinkling with christmas lights and welcoming us after our long ride from Nashville. Everything was perfect and we had a chance to relax and laugh together, to watch movies, hike, visit beautiful waterfalls, shop a little and mostly, just to be with each other.
We would love to come back and will pass along the word of this special place to our friends in Nashville.
Thanks so much,
C., G., and J.T.
