Area Information

Because of our various weather patterns, you can snowski, waterski, hike, cycle, swim, bike trails off the beaten path, and rappel.

Sports teams – we are home of the Arizona Cardinals (football), Arizona Diamondbacks (baseball), Phoenix Suns (NBA basketball), Phoenix Mercury (WNMA basketball), Arizona Rattlers (arena football) and Phoenix Coyotes (hockey).

Arizona is 99 years old and has seen many historical figures, including President Taft. We are also the original point of the New Mexico Territory – bought from Mexico in 1848. In fact our state’s birthday is Valentine’s Day, gotta “love” that!

Tourism – millions of people visit Arizona for a myriad of reasons. Some come for the shopping (most well-known being Chandler Fashion Center, some for the vast golfing, the world-famous and decadent spas of Tucson, hiking/boating, and let’s not forget even the Brady Family (remember them from the 70s?) came to see the Grand Canyon.

Hoover Dam – an architectural phenomena when built, a beautiful scenic high point on a lonely stretch of highway. It is Arizona’s personal gateway to Las Vegas. It's in the process of being remodeled at this time.

Literally any climate you could want is within a 3.5 hour drive of Phoenix, the longest being the beaches of Mexico. Everything else is even closer, including our vast desert, snow-capped mountains and bountiful ski resort of Snowbowl in Flagstaff; beautiful pine forests in northern Arizona; Phoenix – the valley of the sun.

Water parks – since the beach is a ways a way, we make up for it with plentiful water parks throughout the valley, including Wet ‘N Wild in north Phoenix, Big Surf, Sunsplash/Golfland.

Hospitals – several specialized and well-known hospitals in the area, including: Barrow’s Neurological Institute, the Mayo Clinic, Phoenix Children’s Hospital, Arizona Heart Hospital, Tucson Regional Medical Center, and Del Webb.

The Grand Canyon – seriously it’s stunning. If you’ve never seen it, it needs to be on your list of places to see. You can hike it, boat down in the river, or even ride a donkey down into, or stand on the edge and snap picture after picture watching the changing colors from bright yellow to blazing oranges, deep reds, and vibrant purples.

Dry heat – you hear it all the time and it’s kind of a joke amongst the locals, but it is true. When you hear that we have 115 degrees in June, the fact that our humidity is less than 10% severely lessens that blow. Rather than sweating like you’re in a sauna, it’s more like standing in front of an open oven.

You want to enjoy the many adventures available when you stay at our Desert Hideaway! You'll love it.

If you've ever wanted to visit Rocky Mountain National Park or Estes Park, you might want to also take a look at our Colorado cabin near Estes Park, Colorado too. It is listed on Vacation Home Rentals, Rental #11747. Thanks!

Great Home

My husband and I stayed in this home for the month of February. This is a fantastic location that makes it so easy to get around the entire Phoenix area. The house is comfortable, homey, and clean. It was equipped with every amenity a person would need during any stay. Patricia seems interested in going the extra mile to make guests feel at home. She even went so far as to provide treats for our small dog. There is a small patio with a great barbeque grill that was perfect. There is a pool for the community that is very inviting with plenty of seating and lounging areas, but it was a little chilly in February for swimming. The heated spa/hot tub is also available. There are two great play areas for kids and a wonderful walking/jogging/bicycling path a block away. Patricia is very good about providing information about the area with the various things to do. The restaurant suggestions were good as well. My husband and I had never rented like this before, and I was somewhat apprehensive, but all of my concerns went out the window as soon as we arrived. Having a gated community with a home owners association meant that the home where we stayed as well as the entire community of homes are immaculately maintained. I'm looking forward to renting there again.

Owner's reply:

Dear Helen & Peter,
Thanks again for renting Our Desert Hideaway home. We try hard to make our home feel like our renters' "home-away-from-home" while they are there. Most of our renters agree and have taken very good care of our home which allows us to continue renting to "friends" we just haven't met yet.

home away from home

Comfortable, very clean home, Close to community pool, good location in Chandler; close to shopping, golf, grocery stores.

Patricia Stoffregen

Owner's reply:

Thanks so much Janis and Harry for coming all the way from Canada to relax in the sun at Our Desert Hideaway. Our goal is to make our home your "home away from home," so thanks for referring to that. I hope Spring has sprung in Manitoba and you'll think of Our Desert Hideaway the next time you visit Arizona. Patricia

This Was A Perfect Desert Hideaway

This was a comfortable, roomy home that met our requirements for 3 good-sized bedrooms with comfortable beds and 2 bathrooms. The owners prepared us extremely well for our stay, and everything we needed was in the home and labelled for us to find. The high speed internet and large TV were nice-to-have's and we really enjoyed the BBQ patio and kitchen areas. The home's location was a nice quiet setting and close to the ball diamonds for our son's university spring training ballgames as well the two Giants games we attended. The last time we hoteled it in Phoenix and this was SO MUCH BETTER! We highly recommend the Desert Hideaway!

Owner's reply:

Thanks Stan and Corrie! We're so glad you had a great time. We've stayed in lots of hotels and if it's just overnight, it's great BUT when you go for longer, it's so nice to be able to relax and get that "at home" feeling. That's our goal. We're so glad you had that feeling.

We have a cabin just outside the mountain resort town of Estes Park, CO, located right near Rocky Mountain National Park, that we also rent through Vacation Home Rentals if you ever have the desire to visit Colorado. It makes a beautiful and exciting summer vacation. Thanks again for sharing Our Desert Hideaway.

Completely satisfied

Nice home in an excellent location. VERY clean and comfortable home, and the owners clearly make it a priority to satify their renters. We were even treated to a welcome basket upon arrival! This is a first class rental property, we will certainly return in the future.

Owner's reply:

Thanks Sam, we really do want our guests to feel welcome and at home. You took such good care of our home that we also think you and your friends are a 1st class guests! We hope you do come back again. We'll try to plan good golf weather for you - we really lucked out this year. Bob & Patricia

Thank you so much for the opportunity to stay at your place. It was difficult to leave and come back to cold and grey skies today. I always miss our lush green though. If we ever need a place again near your area, I will be sure to keep you in mind. Thank you again. Debra, February 2013, Oregon

Thank you so much for sharing your Desert Hideaway with us. It was a perfect match for our personal needs and everything we hoped our "home away from home" could be. Being just 2.3 miles from our son's home, we had such access to everything we wanted to do! As well as family time, we took in 5 Spring training games and multiple sites and activities around the area. You've made your home so comfortable that it always felt good to come back! Thank you for the special touches and personal notes you left for us. I assure you they were appreciated and nothing went unnoticed! Thank you also for thinking of our dog, Bailey. You went above and beyond what we expected. We will be glad to see him when we return to Ohio! Thanks, again for everything. We hope to return next year. Best Regards, Bonnie & Mike March 2013 OH
