Almost perfect
November 16, 2012
Spent four nights in this beautifully appointed studio. We wnjoyed the quiet yet convenient location and the outdoor patio and private parking. We did, however, find the bed to be a bit too soft and would have appreciated having more dishes and cutlery to facilitate breakfasting in. Otherwise, we were vert satified with our accommodations and would book again.

Cozy room in a fun city
October 16, 2012
This 1-room guest house is cozy, comfortable and in a beautiful area of Charleston. Although it is not in the tourist area of downtown, we enjoyed the walk to town or to the nearby free shuttle to other parts of this historic city. The neighborhood is quiet, which we enjoyed, and not overrun with non-neighbors. We brought our own wi-fi hotspot and breakfast items - the fridge, microwave and coffee maker worked just fine for us - and we enjoyed the bottle of wine the owners left for us. It was also most accommodating for the owners to arrange for transportation to/from the airport.

Perfect place to stay in Charleston
October 6, 2012
We had a wonderful time in Charleston, and it sure was nice to have a "home" to come home to instead of a cramped hotel. Laurie was really wonderful! If she gives you suggestions-follow them! We went to the restaurants that she recommended and they were awesome. We walked everywhere the first two days. The last two days, we drove the car and didn't have a problem parking. But.....if you don't have a car-this lovely place is just fine. It's a nice walk to the downtown area, and you can always get a bicycle cab in you feel the need. We will definitely recommend this place and will stay here our next trip to the wonderful town of Charleston.

Great neighborhood, quiet residential setting but only a few blocks from great shopping and dining. The room was clean and cozy and there is a nice patio and garden as well! We're definitely going back!

This property is ideal for anyone visiting Charleston. Great location for checking out downtown, with easy access to the bridges for leaving "the peninsula" to explore James/John Islands. Plenty of space, in a really quiet neighborhood. We walked most everywhere and felt completely safe, even at night. The guesthouse itself is AWESOME. Very nicely decorated, with plenty of room and very, very comfortable. We didn't use the courtyard because of the weather (August in Charleston = über-humid), but it is lovely. The wine and coffee were a great treat! Laurie was very helpful upon our arrival, helping us figure out a game-plan as far as dining, etc; in fact, the place she suggested (Coast) was so good we ended up eating dinner there TWICE. So good. Thanks again, Laurie, for a great birthday weekend! 'Twas perfect!

All the comfort of home
July 21, 2012
This spacious guesthouse provided all of the comforts of home while being away from home! It's much nicer than a hotel room & the host family was very attentive to our needs! They provided fresh ground coffee for the morning & wine to enjoy in the evening! It's in a peaceful neighborhood in the heart of Charleston and perfectly located within walking distance of many tourist attractions! My husband & I enjoyed celebrating our 10 year anniversary here & highly recommend it for anyone else! 😃 Cody & Jeni

My friend and I went to Charleston for a girls weekend and stayed here. It was great! It was very clean and decorated very well. The patio with table and chairs out back was a great touch. Laurie was also awesome to work with - we loved the little notebook used to leave each other notes. We hope to stay again soon. Thanks!

First time staying in Charleston! Very charming city, but the best part was this place where we stayed. Very clean, quiet neighborhood and within walking distance to everything in the city. Internet worked fine, hosts were gracious!! Would definitely stay here again!!

Weekend getaway
May 30, 2012
My boyfriend and I wanted to get away for the long Memorial Day weekend and what better a place to do that then Charleston. I was SO fortunate to of found this listing during my search online for a nice, inexpensive place to stay. Located close to downtown, this rental gave us the option to walk to almost all of our destinations. The hostesses were wonderful and we had an amazing weekend. Hopefully make it a yearly trip from now on:)

Equipped with all the amenities you could need, this is a gem of a place in dowtown charleston. With thoughtful additions like beach chairs and umbrellas, clean, extremely comfortable bed, helpful maps, gorgeous patio, convenient parking and strong hot shower you will not regret your stay here. As stated in other reviews this is almost like a well kept secret! Extremely homey feel minus the added cost of a B&B.

Little slice of heaven
May 24, 2012
A charming, cozy cottage in a great location. We were so limited in time, and Charleston has so much to see and do, I was torn between wanting to venture out, and wanting time to relax on the patio. We will definitely come back, but stay longer next time. The wine was a welcome bonus and the coffee is good. We could not get an internet connection, but that was no big deal. Wonderful hosts make you feel at home.

Quite good, actually!!

We had everything we needed and then some. They had green AND black tea! Umbrellas! Which we definitely needed. Lovely sitting areas inside and out. We decided to be lazy and take a cab the 8ish blocks to all the restaurants. It a flat $7 rate each way, which is great if you don't want to worry about a designated driver!

wonderful little hide away
April 22, 2012
This small but charming room has so much to offer: very quiet neighborhood within walking distance of all downtown Charleston activities. If too far for some to walk, jump on the free trolley. The room is small, but so is the price for Charleston. The patio and yard were great for breakfast in April weather. Husband walked for exercise every morning from the room (different route each day) and saw so much of the city. Coffee provided and we stocked the frig with bkfast and snack items. Host is available for needed items. Nice linens and pillows :) Would like to have been able to park in back driveway next to room, but that was our only complaint. Would definitely recommend to a couple, and we will return!
Owner's reply:
Warren, thank you for your nice review. We just changed parking to accomodate our guests - parking was on the street until just this month. We ask for parking up front to reduce the possibility of complications with the custom gate in the driveway. Hopefully that won't deter you from returning!

Quiet retreat in the heart of downtown Charleston
March 30, 2012
This 1 bedroom was part of lovely home on a quiet downtown Charleston street. You have your own private entry to the guesthouse at the rear of the main house with private patio. Inside was very modern and roomy. Comfortable bed with spacious living area. The host, Meredith, was very pleasant. There was even coffee/tea along with refrig and microwave. This is the best find in area for their very reasonable rates.

The Gadsden St. Guest House Is just lovely. The furnishings are most attractive. Meredith, our very attentive hostess, supplied us with a bottle of red wine along with freshly ground coffee. The place is quiet and yet within a mile of attractions. We stayed for nine nigths. The only drawback is tha there Is no kitchen or laundry for long stays. Otherwise it's great. Are

Perfect location and excellent host/hostess
February 26, 2012
My hubby and I stayed at the Gadsden Street carriage house for a long weekend, and we were extremely satisfied with everything. The host and hostess were so nice - they provided us a bottle of wine upon arrival :) The home is located very close to downtown, really within walking distance. The neighborhood is quiet and very quaint. Everything was clean and very comfortable. We couldn't have been happier with out choice, and we will definitely be back. A word of caution - make sure you look at the signs wherever you park in Charleston, because there are many restrictions everywhere.

My friend and I stayed at Gadsden House for three nights over MLK Day weekend 2012, and we really couldn't have asked for a better environment to greet us upon our arrival and at the end of each day! Accommodations are in a cute little cottage behind the main house, just a couple of blocks from the water. The furnishings were beautiful, the bed impossible to get up from, and the little touches provided by our hosts, Meredith and Brad, were really appreciated - including coffee of our choice, a complimentary bottle of wine, mints, and a welcome note as we walked in the door. (I wish we could have enjoyed the patio with the beach chairs that were in the closet; alas, though the weather was great all weekend, even Charleston isn't quite patio-ready in January.) Meredith and Brad also offered helpful suggestions for places to eat and were really flexible on details like check-out time. One small note - since the area is largely residential, if you don't have a car (as we didn't), you'll have a walk of about a mile to get to most of the downtown attractions. That didn't bother us, but it might be a downer for some. All in all, we were delighted, and I highly recommend Gadsden House for Charleston visitors who want real Southern hospitality and a reasonably priced alternative to a hotel. You'll have a great time.

New Years in Charleston was fantastic, We felt at home and welcomed. Location was quiet and gracious. It was nice to be able to walk the beautiful neighborhood. Trip to center of town took minutes. Would like to come back whenever possible. One could not ask for a better experience. J and J

3 words - Beautiful, Comfortable & Convenient.
December 15, 2011
Going down to the low country, we were planning to explore the culinary scenario of the town primarily... and we had a great trip. We're very glad that we picked this place to stay. The place was beautiful and sufficient to accommodate the two of us, and had a really pleasant view of the small backyard. And more than anything it was conveniently located in the heart of downtown. We explored most of the town by foot, and any place we picked for a (great) lunch/dinner was but a few blocks away from this place. Its ease of access allowed us to have a great time walking the streets and sidewalks of this town, helping us explore the place in our own way. We feel very comfortable recommending this place, hope you enjoy your trip as much or more than how we enjoyed ours. Cheers ~

We were very pleased with our stay. There is a private entrance to a very clean, charming cottage. Comfortable bed with nice linens and a well maintained, clean bathroom. The owners go the extra mile to make sure you are satisfied. We're all ready planning a return visit.

Absolutely Wonderful Place
July 19, 2011
We had the best time! This was everything we had hoped for and more. Very clean, very spacious, wonderful location and great price. A++++ is the grade I would give it. The owners were extremely accommodating and so very nice. Located just seconds away from important highway connectors to Folly Beach, Savannah, Mt Pleasant and more....... Previous issues with internet connection were obviously fixed because we had a great connection all week. I am afraid to tell my friends about this place because I don't want it to be booked the next time we want to go back .... :) I highly recommend this property. -Michael and Ashley

Close to MUSC
July 14, 2011
We stayed when our son was in the children's hospital at MUSC. We're Charleston natives but didn't want to be 45 minutes away from the hospital. With it being the high tourist and surgical season, there were very limited options. I was slightly skeptical when my SO told me how he found their listing, but after sleeping on a outdoor chair in the icu waiting room with people talking and crying all night I was ready to do anything. I must say I was so happy to have a quiet and convienent place to shower and rest after many stressful hours. Thank you for that little piece of tranquility. It was a 10 minute walk, 2 blocks down from the Ronald McDonald house, so much closer than any of the hotels. The bottle of wine, Laurie and Rob so graciously left, gave me a little tension relief each night with a glass before bed and their wonderfully blended coffee the perfect wake up for a long day. The room and bathroom were as nice or nicer than any hotel I've ever stayed in. The patio (beautiful!) would have been a plus if the weather hadn't been so hot and I hadn't been exhausted from the events of the day. I even took pictures to show everyone what a nice place it was. I am sure I'll be looking to make another reservation for his next surgery.

Perfect Place to stay in Charlston
May 19, 2011
We visited Charleston May3 to May 10th. The unit was darling and very private with all of the comforts of home. The neighborhood is very safe to walk through on the way downtown and if you get a little tired for the walk home there are bicycle cabs for a fun experience. Our hosts were helpful when we needed them but really have thought of everything to make a pleasant experience. The wine and coffee were fabulous, the bed comfy and gardens lovely. We were more than thrilled with the dining, sight seeing and weather and golfing at the Muni was a blast. Mahalo again Laurie and Rob for sharing your beautiful home and helping to make a memorable vacation in Charleston! Louise and Bob PS Try S.N.O.B and Toast, both excellent!

Absolutely wonderful! The Kramer's guest house is the ideal place to stay and enjoy downtown Charleston. The place was beautiful and the location was better than I could have imagined. I won't stay anywhere else if I can stay here when visiting the most beautiful city in the U.S.

Charleston's Charm Will Not Disappoint
April 16, 2011
The room was very nicely appointed and spotlessly clean. The bed was very back friendly. The patio off the bedroom was cozy and quaint and nicely landscaped. The bottle of wine and the coffee were a nice touch. We enjoyed the fresh coffee so much we plan to order some. Our host were very friendly and helpful in suggesting points of interest in the area. The suggested trip to nearby Beaufort was not a disappointment. The waterfront was lovely, the historic homes grand, the shopping great and the restaurants plentiful.

March 13, 2011
Very clean and well decorated - bed is super comfortable and the room is just perfect for 2! Coffee is awesome! The guest house has it's own entrance and feels very private. Laurie and Rob were very friendly and helpful and gave us some great recommendations for places to eat. The location is great - very quiet but still close to everything. I had a broken foot but was still able to manage the walk to downtown without a problem. My only complaint (and I struggle to find one) is that we had a very difficult time getting an internet connection. It would certainly not keep us from staying here again but is worth mentioning since that may be an issue for some people. My husband and I stayed for a week for our 10 year anniversary and it was just perfect. You will not find a better deal for this price. We hope to have another opportunity to stay here!

My hubby and I stayed here for my birthday. The room was beautifully decorated and clean as can be. The area was beautiful and only a blk away from my daughters house. Can't imagine finding a nicer accommodation for the rate. Easy walk to downtown, very quiet and well-appointed. Delicious bottle of wine and fresh coffee in the room is a great touch and bottled water all at no extra cost! We strolled to restaurants, shops and everywhere in between. 15 minute drive to Folly Beach which was charming. You will not be disappointed, Laurie and Rob will take good care of you!

A walk in the rain....
October 3, 2010
We cannot give enough positive input about our stay in Charleston, which was made all the better by the lovely accommodations and hospitality of Rob and Laurie. Thank you both so much for sharing your home and your city with us for a few rainy days! The coffee was amazing and the bottle of wine was such a welcoming gesture. Both were heartily enjoyed! Your place has all the little touches of home and is done in such a nice way...down to the thick, soft bath towels! The location can't be beat and having the umbrellas handy saved us! There is more than enough privacy to let you feel like you have your own space, but also a wonderful welcoming spirit in the event you need anything from directions, to suggestions on dining to a good local chat! This is a 5 plus star accommodation experience not to be missed! Thanks again Rob and Laurie!....and Charleston!

True Charleston Charm
September 27, 2010
We had a wonderful stay in Charleston; it was our first time. The accommodations exceeded our expectations. This place reflects true Charleston charm, your host/hostess thought of every little detail; from a welcome bottle of wine to your stay’s gourmet coffee …just like a private bed and breakfast. You’ll be able to walk everywhere and not have to worry about parking a car and that was a huge benefit. We look forward to staying here for our next visit to Charleston.

A working vacation
August 2, 2010
My husband and I were married in Charleston but haven't been back for an extended vacation in several years. This location was perfect for reliving those dating days when we would walk to all the bars and restaurants without worrying about having to drive afterward. The proprietors were friendly and helpful and always available without ever compromising our privacy. It was the perfect fit for our "working vacation" needs. I would definitely recommend this place to anyone looking to spend some time in Charleston. It was a lovely week.

everything was as advertised, and was very nice.they had our 12oz. bag of coffee and bottle of wine ready when we arrived.(they roasted and grind the coffee the day before we arrived)They are very nice people to deal with, and very informative about the area events. We only rated it a 4 because the internet service gives a very weak signal, and bumps you off line continually.your room is private with separate door and patio. We loved it,and highly recommend it.

A True Find
January 22, 2010
Our 13 year old daughter needed surgery at MUSC, and we needed and wanted a place to call base nicer than a motel/hotel. Much to our good fortune, this guest room was available. The "big guy" was looking out for us in what was a very stressful time. The surgery was serious but successful, but the week was one of serious pain for our daughter. Being able to walk back and forth from the hospital to this haven was a needed relief and opportunity to mentally file things away. Our hosts were not only thoughtful and perfectly accommodating but very caring and supportive. We very much hope to have another opportunity to make good use of this very special opportunity when we can take full advantage of it. The location is close to perfect, and the room is impressively furnished and very comfortable. The hosts are fantastic.

I was looking for a quiet, comfortable place to call home for a few days - and this was it! The photos on this site doe not do this place justice, it really is a cozy private cottage to call your own. Off the beaten path but still in the heart of Charleston, I used this place as a base for a 3 day photo shoot and it was perfect. The owners were wonderful and I have recommended this spot to friends. I will be back again.

We had a great time in Charleston and this was a great location. We were in walking distance to plenty of restaurants and sightseeing. The room was immacuately maintained and I absolutely loved the backyard area where we could sit in the morning and have coffee (which was amazing, by the way). It was also quiet and private, a suite with its own key, which was awesome because we were attending very late night wedding events and didn't have to disturb anyone on our way back in. Laurie and Rob were super nice and welcoming. We would definitely stay here again!
