Nestled in a private wooded setting in western Albemarle County, Afton Cottage is the perfect retreat for that get-away weekend, week , or month. Only 25 minutes from Charlottesville, Wintergreen & Staunton, Afton Cottage is a great location from which to explore beautiful central Virginia and the Shenandoah Valley. We are surrounded by wineries and breweries.
Afton Cottage sleeps 4-5 and offers all of the amenities of a modern home including laundry facilities and a fully equipped kitchen featuring Calphalon pans and Sabatier knives. It is tastefully furnished and has two bedrooms, a living room with vaulted ceiling, and a spacious deck with vistas of the Blue Ridge Mountains. Area Information

Afton Cottage is located in a wooded setting at the base of the Blue Ridge Mountains. The area has often been called the most beautiful part of Virginia. Farms, vineyards, and large wooded tracts are characteristic of the area.

The Woodrow Wilson Presidential Library/Birthplace The Blackfriar's Playhouse and The Museum of American Frontier Culture are 30 minutes away in Staunton. the Frontier Culture Museum has a number of reconstructions of actual period farmsteads moved from the mother countries. Guides in period costumes explain the exhibits and perform tasks associated with the various farms.

Summer Visit

We had a very nice time at Afton Cottage. The accomodations were bright and cheery, clean and close to all. The deck was also our favorite place for watching the hummingbirds and stargazing. We would definitely recommend the place to others.

Our vacation

November 29, 2008

Our stay at Afton cottage was comfortable and warm on chilly nights. The gas firelogs kept the well kept cottage toasty warm. When we arrived there was soft music playing. Watching and listening to nature was one of our favorite things to do. The deck was one of my greatest enjoyments of the cottage. We also went to Crabtree Falls and to Monticello. Both are high recommendations for visiting. The cottage is a place we would rent again. Very relaxing, quiet, clean and private.

Since November, 2007 we have had over 70 reviews on the site mentioned below. All have been 5 stars except for 2. One guest gave us 4 stars because there was dust on ceiling fan blades. The other gave us 4 stars because, after we warned her about ticks, she went walking in the woods during the height of tick season and she found ticks on her.
We now pay particular attention to dust on fan blades. As for ticks, there is not much we can do about them except warn guests about them.
