Christmas at Clarkefield

This house is great! So many nooks and crannies to explore! We had a great Christmas here with the family. Everyone loved the house so much. It really is a wonderful place for kids. The rooms are very spacious, it has a great kitchen, and the beds are so comfortable! (We were actually arguing over who had the most comfortable bed... seriously!) There were lots of games, books, and puzzles there for the family to stay entertained, and the grounds were wonderful for the kids to run around, play on the swingset, take a walk on the trails (over the creek bridges to check out the old barns and the woods), and roast marshmallows out at the firepit. We were able to prepare a really nice Christmas dinner in the convection oven, with plenty of dishes and utensils there for us to use. It was nice to sit around the big dining room table and talk as a family after our big meal! Everything worked well - no glitches with any of the appliances, from the coffee maker, to the dishwasher, to the washer/dryer. The game room downstairs was so much fun too! We enjoyed playing air hockey and ping pong, and the kids discovered all the toys in the big toy box and were thrilled! The owner of the property was very responsive and easygoing. He was a pleasure to talk to and rent from. We will definitely be coming back to stay at this house again. We had such a great time!

Wonderful Stay

We met my college daughter at the house so we could be together for Easter. Wonderful house full of antiques. Neat stuff to look at. Beagle loved the 28 acres. Found the old chicken coup, 2 barns and the creek. PopPop shared many stories from his childhood that the antiques brought to his mind. Hope to make it an annual event and stay longer next year. Very relaxing and plenty of room.

Great location for a girls getaway!

We just returned from a great weekend in Barboursville and had a fabulous experience with this house! I hosted a bachelorette for a friend getting married this spring. There were 10 girls so we had plenty of room to spread out. One of our friends is a personal chef so she cooked all our meals at the house, the kitchen was well stocked and the large dining room was perfect for us all to eat together. The yard is very large and great for families (and rowdy 30 year olds), we had hoped to do smores around the outside fire pit but alas it rained on us. John (the owner) was great, we had a little issue with the refrigerator and he immediately called a repairman to come fix it (poor repairman, he may never be the same again). The only downfall to the house is that there is only 1 shower but after 10 ladies showering, we still had hot water so there is definitely something to be said for that! Again, the house is not “fancy pants” but has lots of room, is very comfortable and was a great place for a large gathering. I highly recommend it for your next family reunion or girls getaway! (we took advantage of the location and visited several of the local vineyards, if you stay at this house and want to do a wine tour, call James Limousine, they were great!)

A little bit of Country

What a beautiful home! My family enjoyed a winter weekend recently at Clarkefield and had a marvelous time. We went shopping, visited a couple of wineries, hiked around the property, played cards, and the "boys" had a ping pong tournament! Great location and although we had blustery cold weather, we were very comfortable in house and built a fire to toast our backsides. Our host was kind enough to accomodate our parents with a double bed on the first floor so they didn't have to climb the stairs. Did not want to leave to go back to the real world!

Had the opportunity for a short stay at Clarksville and just absolutely love the area. Several wineries and other attractions in the area. Clarksville is a warm, cozey and comfortable home set between open fields and standing timber in the back. It is a great place to just relax or spend time with family and friends. Beautiful night sky too! John was also great to work with.

We had a lovely weekend stay - a perfect fall retreat. Walking around the woods and pastures was so peaceful. The house was the perfect size with all the amenities we needed. Great lunch at Stonefire Kitchen minutes away. Will definitely be back!

Perfect, relaxing weekend getaway

We rented this beautiful house for a weekend getaway. The house is spacious, comfy, and had everything we needed! The landscape is gorgeous and it is close to anything you need. We were able to make a day-trip to plenty of wonderful wineries in the area - Barboursville Winery is right down the road and a must-see. The owner was amazing - very responsive, nice and greeted us to show us around. We are definitely going to make this an annual weekend reunion and won't stay anywhere else!

3 days was too short

It is such a fun house and property, I wish we could have stayed there for a week at least, even with the house being pretty near our home. My kids (and the adults, to be honest) loved exploring the woods and buildings on the property. There were plenty of things to play with, like baseball gloves, swings, board games, a train set my kids loved, etc. The home is large and cozy, with plenty of room for everyone to have their own space, but also to hang out together. I'd definitely stay there again!

Really beautiful place

Everyone had a wonderful time - and the place was wonderful for all of us - and John was very accommodating. One concern we had was the number of wasps - we probably killed 30-40. One of our party is allergic to stings. There was also an unbelievable number of lady bugs on the back porch (thousands). The oven could use a cleaning - when we made biscuits, something that was on the bottom caught fire. Even with this, we will most likely come back again next year as everyone really had a great time around the property and in the house.

Great and Relaxing Stay

We rented Clarkefield for four months while waiting for our new home to be built. The grounds were incredible, so much privacy for our family of four. Great hiking trail in the back, old barns to explore, and the night sky was brilliant with stars. The owners were wonderful, accommodating, and responded to our every need. We HIGHLY recommend Clarkefield for an extended stay or for just a weekend to explore the nearby wineries.

A lovely brick home built of quality materials and located in privacy on a nice piece of land in a quiet area.Very clean and owner was available by phone if needed.Lovely enclosed porches, large rooms, fireplace, dishwasher, bright, sunny windows.Close to Charlottesville's many historic sites. Walking trail on property.
