Area Information

Chelem Yucatan is a small fishing village located on the gulf of Mexico with white sand beaches. The Yucatan area is recognized as the "safest" area in Mexico. The area is not commercialized like Cancun!

The port of Progreso is only a few miles away. You can see the end of the pier from this house.

Chelem is a small fishing village. It has many expatriates living in the area. Many have decided to live here due to the low cost of living and acess to very affordable medical and dental care. Medical tourism is a big business in Merida.Fishing and water sports are popular.

The roads are safe to drive on and some of the best in Mexico. Chichen Itza is about 2 hours. Merida, capital of Yucatan, is about 20 miles. Walmart, Sears, and Mc Donald's, etc are located with in a 10-20 minutes.

This is a great place to come relax and enjoy the beach. You can walk to local resturants owned by expatriates and Yucantanos.
