Area Info
Formerly an independent city, Coconut Grove was annexed by the city of Miami in 1925. The Grove is sometimes known as Miami's Food Court, for its many and varied restaurants. Open air cafes are quite popular as well. Some local favorites include Green Street Cafe, Monty's Raw Bar, Tuscany, Mr. Moes, and Le Bouchon, a French cafe. There are plenty of chain franchises as well, such as The Cheesecake Factory and Johnny Rockets. Shopping is also abundant in the Grove, with two large open-air malls, CocoWalk, Streets of Mayfair, and many other street shops and boutiques. By night, the Grove becomes a center of nightlife frequented by young professionals and students from Florida International University and the University of Miami.
Villa Vizcaya, built in 1916, is a popular Miami tourist attraction
The eastern border of Coconut Grove is Biscayne Bay, which lends itself to a boating community. The area features a sailing club (Coconut Grove Sailing Club), a yacht club (Coral Reef Yacht Club) and a marina (Dinner Key Marina[4]). Pan Am's seaplane operations were based in Dinner Key, and the Miami City Hall is based in the old Pan Am terminal building.
Coconut Grove is also home to The Kampong, an 8 acre (32,000 m²) tropical garden that forms part of the National Tropical Botanical Garden.
Coconut Grove is also the location of The Barnacle Historic State Park. Built in the late 1800s, the former home of Ralph Middleton Munroe is one of the oldest homes in Dade County and is situated on the shore of Biscayne Bay. The forest surrounding the home is hardwood hammock and is the last of its kind in the area. The unique architecture includes period furniture and wide porches that afford magnificent

DON'T rent this place! Here's WHY:

March 11, 2010

This is a scam. It's the owners primary residence and his personal stuff is all over the place. He stole our $500.00 security deposit after saying we'd get it back. The place is dirty, linens stained and shredded. The BBQ is disgusting, porch filthy. The master bedroom linens were NOT FRESH! Rotten food in frig. You can't take a shower if you are heavy because there isn't a real doorway into the upstairs bathroom- you actually have to squeeze through a 12" opening in the wall to access the shower. The toilet doesn't flush. If you want to use the microwave, you have to rig it to a chord that dangles down to the counter. Breathtaking my ---. He made up a story about not being in town when we checked out and we never got the deposit back. He stopped returning emails and calls from us on the matter after a few months. We scrubbed the porch furniture for him, rinsed off the back porch, cleaned the filthy windows. The place was better when we left than when we arrived. He told us he was in danger of loosing the place. There IS a broken washer and dryer in kitchen with clothes in it that have been there for God knows how long. We even had to clean the frig when we got there because it stunk to high heavens. There were dishes or glasses until we looked in the dirty dishwasher and found them all. He didn't even leave us dishwasher soap so we could clean them, so an hour after we arrived, we were empying Alex's dirty dishes and washing them by hand. Oh, and there are BIGa-- roaches!

Bad experience / no rating.

January 18, 2010

Very disappointing,on arrival the odor was the only thing that was breathtaking,[cleaning solution]on further inspection it was quite obvious someone lived there, food in the fridge, open bags of chipps and dog food on the kitchen counter, clothing in closet and numerous personel items around. One bathroom you could only get into by turning sideways [no joke],the other, Well [no comment]also no covers on the light switches and wall plugs. I could go on but think you can probably get the picture. We all felt very uncomfortable about the area and property and felt that it is not anything like advertised, we did not stay and went to find other accommodation elsewhere , which turned out to be added expense and aggravation.

Watch out! We stayed 1 week and it was a complete disaster. The guy took only the money and was never seen again. I tried to contact him by mail, telephone several times - no response. The linens were used (with lot of sperm and hairs on it!!) - I can provide pictures if you dont believe it. It was so disgusting!! The shower curtain was mouldy! No glasses or cups available for us five. I wonder how 8 people could ever stay there. The washing machine was out of order so we had to wash everything in a nearby laundry. And guess what - we never saw the security deposit. So dont ever plan to visit this property.

Great place for an extended stay

February 4, 2009

My sailing team of eight people stayed here for two weeks. We had a great time and the facilities worked well for cooking and housing a large group. Nice short walk to Coco Walk and the Sailing Centre. We'll definitely be back to this house.

Vacation Spoiler

I’d like to warn anyone about the property at 3424 Franklin Ave., in Coconut Grove, Florida. On arrival we were greeted by a large caged pit bull. The place was nowhere near ready and the owner’s things were strewn around. Upon inspecting the property, we found marijuana on the counter in the kitchen, peeling paint in the upstairs bedroom, and a tap not working in the bathroom. But the absolute coup de grace was the two inch cockroach crawling up the hallway wall. We were so shocked and stunned, that we left immediately to find a hotel, which we were extremely lucky to find at the last minute. Of course the stay cost a premium over our original budget. When we returned to the property to inform Alejandro Paret that we could not possibly stay in the place, in the condition it was in, he agreed and promised to return a portion of our $500 deposit. Despite repeated emails and phone calls, he never returned any of the money. To protect your reputation you should not allow this vendo

We had an amazing stay at the Coconut Groove, and met New Years Eve on the back yard of the house with the grill and palm tree with real coconuts! :) The house is neat and cozy and has all the utilities a traveler might need, just be carefull when you check the location, because the place seems to be located right above the ocean, but there's no beaches around.

âThis place sings its own kind of music. In Coconut Grove, sailboats sway on Biscayne Bay. Traffic stops for peacocksâ¦When you're ready to roost, soar up to this great townhouse. It's a wonderful place to migrate on your next vacation. Some of the best times I've had have been here in Coconut Grove.â
