Very nice secluded home with lots of land

July 19, 2011

The farmhouse is really very sweet. Nice hardwood floors, decorated well. It's an older place, but updated and has a nice fresh look to it on the inside. The kitchen is incredibly well equipped for a rental home at this price. More like what you'd find in a $5000/week home. In addition to the equipment and cooking utensils, there was a complete complement of spices, oil, coffee filters, and all those other little things that you so often spend a fortune on for a short vacation yet only need a tiny amount of. Nice large dining area that seats 8 very comfortably. Very nice large flat-screen TV with satellite. Tons of room in the back yard that opens out into a forested area. Perfect place if you have a dog (but note that the fence is not secure all the way around). Very large yard also great for kids (but note that small children could get lost in the woods, so you still need to keep an eye out). Nice peaceful front porch for coffee in the morning. Large porch in back as well, but directly in the sun during the morning. There really are fish (albeit very small) in the fishing pond. Not really walking distance to anything, but a quick ride to neighboring towns. There were only 2 negatives. The first is that it smelled to all of us like someone had smoked there (not like a heavy smoker's home, but we all noticed it). The second is that the owners' belongings occupied 100% of the drawer and closet space in the master bedroom. We only stayed the weekend, so not a big deal for us. For a weekly rental, that might be more of an issue. That said, we would definitely return to the Blue Haven Farm if we came back to the area. Peaceful and charming.
