Description of the Corolla vacation condo rental
You don't need a trolley to get anywhere here. If your thinking about it, then look further and treat your family to one of the better things that life has to offer some sand in between your toes and a cool drink in your hand does wonders for your spirit!
If you have never been here, you are missing the experience of a truly fabulous vacation destination area with numerous options for your enjoyment. The Outer Banks offer some of the best year round blue water fishing in the world, with the Gulf Stream as close as 8 miles off shore from Hatteras Inlet and within about 20 miles of Oregon Inlet. This is about a 50 minute car ride to the Oregon Inlet fishing Center (check out their web page for up to date fish reports)and another 30 minutes further to Hatteras Harbor Marina (they also have updated fish reports on their web page).
If golf is your passion, there are plenty of area courses to play, including "The Currituck Club", which is across the main road on the Sound Side. Golf Digest has rated the Currituck Club as "One of the Best Places to Play".
If golf is not your passion you can hang out on our secluded pristine private beach and watch the common sight of dolphins and pelicans. During the summer months a life guard is posted on our beach within a short distance to our beach access walkway. USA Today described the Currituck beaches around Corolla as "one of the best undiscovered beaches on the East Coast." There are wild Spanish Mustangs that roam the remote beach area between Corolla and the Virginia state line. A 4-wheel drive vehicle or one of the local tour operators should be able to put you within sight of these beautiful creatures. In addition there are various types of kayak tours, the Wright Brothers Memorial, para-sailing, jet skiing, hang gliding, guided 4 Wheel Drive Trips into the remote area north of Corolla, dolphin watching cruises, great surfing and some of the best windsurfing on the east coast. You should be able to obtain more information for these activities on the web.

Area Information
Vacationing is easy is this non-commercialized environment, yet life here is civilized with upscale dining opportunities, luxurious residential accommodations, and pristine private Atlantic Beaches (with rare exception Corolla communities are private and public access to these neighborhoods is limited to owners and their guests). The overall ambiance surrounding Corolla could best be described as "the good life".
Corolla is a community located in Currituck County, North Carolina, along the "northern beaches" of the Outer Banks. The northernmost accessible town with paved roads on the Outer Banks, Corolla has developed rapidly since 1990. Prior to 1984, NC RT 12 only went as far as the Dare County line, after which RT 12 was extended to what has become the ever popular community of Corolla. Today, this desirable upscale vacation area consists of numerous large multi-million dollar homes, as well as some smaller charming homes and a few condominium communities. Hotels and motels are extremely limited and expensive, making the large supply of residential rentals the choice of most vacationers.
A twist of fate did come to Corolla for the one of Corollas famous attractions, the wild Spanish Mustangs believed to have settled on these northern beaches over a hundred years ago after swimming ashore from offshore shipwrecks. With the extension of NC RT 12, this heard of wild Mustangs, believed to consist of about 130 horses, had to be relocated to the north end of the more populated areas of Corolla. Today they can be found north of where NC RT 12 meets the Atlantic. From this point you can travel off road for about 12 miles to the Virginia state line and it is in this area where the horses roam freely and can often be sighted, a thrilling experience for many.
Corolla is also the home to the Currituck Beach Lighthouse, and for a small fee you can climb the spiral staircase to the top and witness an amazing panoramic view.
For the most part Corolla is an April - October vacation land, with a year-round population of approximately 500. Corolla offers all the amenities you would want for a great vacation and the chances are that any expectations regarding amenities will be exceeded. You will not find the large chain stores in Corolla, but no one really cares about that since a vacation here is focused on the beautiful private beaches, fine dining, and numerous specialty stores.
Corolla is also a water sports heaven with jet-skiing rentals, fishing, surfing lessons, kayaking and other water sports available.
If water sports are not on your "to do list", there is always wild horse-finding trips, a golf course as well as a "mini-golf course", go-carts,and tennis courts to fill your time. There is also many isolated stretches of beach that you can find adjacent to a place to rent and this is something you can rarely find in most other coastal communities.
The core tourist season is from Memorial Day to Labor Day, but many are now flocking here for the "spring break" times, when children are out of school as well as the weeks in May that precede Memorial Day weekend. September - November is glorious in Corolla because the crowds are reduced, the rates are cheaper, businesses are still open (many can be found open throughout the year now), and the weather is often perfect. Winter and spring should not be overlooked either, as they provide a time when you can get a bargain accommodation and some isolation, though not all of the businesses will be open.
One thing that Corolla offers very little of is nightlife, so if bar hoping is something you want to do, then Corolla will not meet your needs.There are a some bars with live entertainment during the summer, but generally speaking this is an upscale family destination as opposed to high activity singles scene. But for those who love Corolla, the preference is for quality family time, a quiet night at the pool or ocean, relaxing dinners and possibly a movie. Most folks opt to utilize all the days have to offer as opposed to staying up late at night.
If your looking for a fabulous place to "decompress" and enjoy memorable time with your loved ones, then Corolla is the destination for you.

We had plenty of room. The views were great. Facilities were awesome. We had friends that were in a house about 100 yards away and staying with 5 families wouldn't work for our situation so it was perfect for us.

This was probably one of the nicest vacations we've ever taken! Going during off season made it even more enjoyable since we aren't much for big crowds. The condo we stayed in was nicely furnished with everything we could possibly need and really felt "homey"! No fear to kick off your feet and curl up on the couch or chairs. Plenty of counter space in the kitchen and lots of extras like baking pans, beach chairs, wine glasses, etc. Lots of "bang for the buck" and a really short walk to the beach. Highly recommend it unless you have problems with stairs!

Thanks for your review. We can't do anything about the stairs to our second floor condo (although much more privacy than a first floor unit), as there is no elevator. But as you experienced, the condition, amenities and location are as good as it gets! Thanks a bunch and we hope to see you again in the future. I have already heard from some others in your group who are already thinking about a September return, and that is a favorite month of among many who don't have school aged children. Have a great summer!

Great times on the northern beaches

This was my first experience in a condo at the Outer Banks (previous experiences all were in houses). The setting was absolutely perfect for 3 people. The condo was clean and tastefully decorated. I especially appreciated the short walk along the boardwalk to the beach. My only complaint is there wasn't an outside enclosed shower. But, hey. Can't have everything!

First time to the Outer Banks and definitely not my last. Pelican Landing was everything I had hoped for. From Lighthouses, to beaches, and the quite surroundings of the condo made for an excellent week. Minutes away from anything you want to do, whether it be golfing, lighthouse touring, wild horses, or just stolls along the beach with outstanding sunrises. I would recommend Pelican Landing to anyone interested in vacationing in the Outer Banks, but would rather keep this place my secret! The condo is very warm and has all the amenities of home. Can't wait to start planning my next trip!!

Our family has been staying at The Pelican's Landing for 3 years, and we think it is just perfect! We love the location (close to the beach and minutes away from shops and grocery stores). The condo is very homey and has all the amenities you need! We can't wait to go back!

Our first trip(my husband, 3 kids and me) to the OBX and couldn't have stayed at a better condo! We enjoyed the private beaches for us 'condo renters" and the Wild Horses a few miles up on the beach! The eye catching decor was beautiful (check out the virtual tour) and I enjoyed the master suite with its own private bathroom. Kid friendly too, with extras (high chair, pack n' play, inner tube, beach toys) and I especially enjoyed having the washer and dryer. I would definitely recommend Pelican Landing as your next vacation spot and the owners are a joy to talk to about Corolla!

My wife and I shared the condo with our friends and their son, and we all had a great time. Good condo in a good location (I loved being up on the deck overlooking the pool) with a very short walk to the beach and very close to lots of useful amenities. I would definitely recommend this condo to anyone looking for an alternative to the giant beach houses that are taking over the banks.

My family has been renting this beautifully decorated condo for the last three years. We love the close proximity to the beach and the pool located within the condo complex. We would highly recommend spending a week at Pelican Landing!
