One mile north of Corolla, on North Carolina's famed Outer Banks, having hugged the Atlantic Ocean from all the way below Hatteras sixty miles to the south, the paved road abruptly ends. So begins one of the best kept secrets on America's east coast; for the Outer Banks are not done yet. Another eleven miles of wild and beautiful coast stretches up to Virginia's southernmost shore. Known locally as the '4-wheel drive area' for the SUV's typically needed to access its treasures, this very northern section of the Outer Banks is still sparsely inhabited. Drive north roughly three miles up the beach (4WD required) to the area known as Swan Beach, look 500 feet off to your left, and there, nestled back behind the twenty foot beach dune, you'll find a yellow beach house named Tranquility. Tranquility was built in 1997 - it's clean and modern. The house has got a lot to offer, but all else just pales in comparison to the main thing: where it is.

Tranquility is located about 4 miles beyond the end of the 'hard road' in the area known as Swan Beach. It is fairly well centered within the 'wild and wonderful' 4WD area yet not really very far from all the amenities and fun that the Outer Banks has to offer: From the shopping and dining in Duck and Corolla, to exploring the Currituck Lighthouse or the virgin natural shores of False Cape State Park just north beyond the Virginia state line, to day trips south to Hatteras and Ocracoke Islands.

 Great Place to Be No Where!!!, June 1, 2009

First vacation in a long time. Great house and awesome location. We had wild ponys each day just outside the house. The ocean was so close and we even seen dolphins one morning. Hot tub needs a little attention, but the home was very clean and easy to get too..But don't be fooled you will need a good 4x4 and good tires.. Thanks Again.Looking forward to another get away soon..
