Treat yourself to a quiet stay in a spacious private home in a Tahoe-like setting for less than the price of a hotel room. Just an hour from San Francisco, this is the home of traditional jazz musician Lu Watters (1912-1989). The immaculate 1300-ft. brick home is fully furnished with old-world Tuscan elegance, and has Italian tile floors and artwork throughout. Enjoy the 44" plasma TV with Bose sound system or listen to Lu Watters recordings from the days of his nightclub, Hambone Kelly's.

Area Information

Easy access to highway 101 and the Sonoma/Napa wine country hot spots in the Alexander, Dry Creek and Napa Valleys, coastal beaches, Valley of the Moon, and the spa towns of Calistoga and Sonoma. Sonoma State University is on the same street, but on the east side of the freeway, downwind of the highway fumes Lu despised.

bucket list

Five of us stayed at the Sage Hen; my 86 year old mother, her daughter (myself) and husband, and her grandson and wife. The purpose was to fulfill her bucket list: to see San Francisco and the northern Callifornia wine country. THe Sage Hen couldn't have been a better fit. Not only was it convenient to all we wanted to do, it involved no steps, was well equipped for cooking, and relaxing after our daily activities. We lacked for nothing. THe only negative, if there was one, was that the 2nd bedroom mattress was too firm and the pull out bed in the chair was too soft. However Ron was already looking into replacing them. We would not hesitate to stay there again!
