Description of the Custer vacation home rental

Originally an 1895 boarding house in the mining camp of Kiddville (long ago abandoned), the house was remodeled and turned into a private home/ranch in the 1930's. In 2007, the home was again remodeled and modernized. The original assay office, caretakers quarters, barn/corral, and cabins are yet on the 38 privately owned acres, 8 miles NW of Custer, SD.

Visitors have unlimited access to 5 of the 38 private acres, and the house yard adjoins the public Black Hills National Forest. The area abounds with deer, elk, turkeys, squirrels, birds,... The setting is very private for there are no other inhabited dwellings on the 38 acres!

Rates include tax for up to four guests. Additional charge of $15 per person per night.

The three bedrooms are on the second floor with the full bath. The main floor hosts the living room, kitchen, dining room, laundry area, porch, and small sun room. Upon request, a queen air bed can be provided on the main floor near the dining room.

Great Place To Stay!!!, October 18, 2009
By Deb Schretenthaler (Eau Claire, WI USA)
We stayed for one week in August. There were nine people in our party. The house was exactly what we were looking for: privacy, space, amenities. The kitchen is fully eqquiped, which allowed us to cook many meals. We were able to hike and explore without having to drive.

 Breathtaking!, May 15, 2009
By Karen (Minnesota)
I am a granddaughter who came from MN every year to stay in this beautiful piece of property while my grandparents were still living. I am so appreciative of the fact that my wonderful relatives have taken on renting this beautiful place so that you too can enjoy the solitude this place has to offer besides all of the history on this piece of land and surrounding area. The abundance of deer and other wildlife roaming is awesome and a definite perk!! I highly recommend you stay at this 1895 Historic Charm.
Owner Supplied Testimonials
My grandparents homesteaded this property in the 1920's. It is a cherished piece of our family that we wish to share. The history is fantastic, the house comfy, and the area beautiful! Though the home is completely modernized, it carries a rare peice of history with it! Tricia-owner
