Great spot to relax by the lake

My girlfriend and I have been taking a week in Maine for each of the last three years. Our priorities in a cabin are pretty simple: visible water, a quiet, comfortable spot to read, and a decent kitchen so I can cook every day. The previous two years, we hadn't quite managed those, the cottages we found just didn't quite make it. One had a "water view" as long as you craned your neck and squinted, the other was (unexpectedly) fifty yards from a summer camp. So we've had some issues finding the right spot. Ruth's Legacy, however, was just about perfect. The view from the cottage and off the dock is breathtaking. While there are other cabins nearby, the area is quite quiet, and treelines helped us feel more alone with the lake. The firepit out front was terrific for evening marshmallow-roasting and stargazing. The kitchen was well-stocked with utensils, pans, and everything else needed for a week of lakeside feasting. In terms of location, the cottage was an easy 20-minute drive from Damariscotta, and not much further from Augusta, so it was easy to visit the local shops and pubs and pick up groceries. A few small issues: the grill was unusable, it clearly hadn't been cleaned (and maybe not touched) since the summer began. The rowboat provided had been unused for so long that it had moss growing on the stern. There was no on-site trashcan, which led to extra car trips to dispose of garbage. The cottage was very well-maintained, which made these oversights surprising. None were vacation-ruining, certainly, but a bit frustrating. Those (easily fixed) issues aside, this was a wonderful place to spend a week. If you're looking for a spot to relax, read those mystery novels or three-volume histories you keep meaning to pick up, and drink a locally-brewed IPA on the lakeside, this is the place for you.

We had an excellent week here. The cottage has everything you need to make your stay comfortable and relaxing and the owner was a pleasure to deal with. Damrascotta Lake is beautiful, just right for a family vacation. The location is convenient for shopping or day tripping to other attractions. I would not hesaitate to return.

Beautiful Vacation Spot

We spent a week here last year and everything was perfect! This cottage has the best view on the lake and was just what we needed to relax and unwind. The cottage had everything we needed to be comfortable, with an updated kitchen and a nice-sized common room, plus a bedroom and a loft and a full bath. Nearby is the town of Damariscotta and our favorite place for lobster, Round Pond. Pemaquid Point, Camden and Boothbay Harbor are not far away. We enjoyed the peacefulness and the beauty. There's nothing like seeing a sky full of stars, even a shooting star, while you are toasting marshmallows for S'mores.
