Description of the Dennis vacation home rental
Charming, nicely decorated, 6 room ranch just 2 short blocks from Mayflower Beach, one of the most popular and family-friendly beaches on Cape Cod. Chapin's Beach is also within walking distance. Plenty of parking on property, large kitchen area, family room, living room, 1.5 baths plus additional outside shower, deck, Weber BBQ grill, washer & dryer, dishwasher, expanded cable TV (includes NESN!), 2 TV's, DVD, VCR, free HIGH SPEED cable internet, free local and domestic long distance calls, 2 bedrooms upstairs (1 queen, 2 twins -all new mattresses), fold-out queen sofa upstairs, 2 queen beds in finished basement.
Our home is located off 6A on the Cape Cod Bay side on a quiet road, with a large shaded backyard. It's a short 5 minute walk to Chapin's Restaurant (great food & sports bar). A longer walk (or short drive) is the picturesque and historic village of Dennis. Many restaurants, shops, live theater, and attractions are only minutes away.
The quiet, beach-oriented nature of Dennis perhaps derives from its namesake, the Reverend Josiah Dennis, pastor of Yarmouth's East Parish. He would probably approve of the town's lack of commercial development, its ten town beaches, and seven conservation areas.
Rev. Dennis' saltbox home, the Josiah Dennis Manse, is open to the public with rooms decorated in the style of the minister's day. Further along Route 6A on Scargo Lake is Scargo Hill Tower, built on the highest spot in the area at 160 feet above sea level. From the top of the 38-step tower, you can see from Barnstable Harbor to the west to Provincetown in the east.
Also on Route 6A in Dennis is the Cape Playhouse, the oldest summer playhouse in the country. Converted in 1927 from an 1820 Unitarian Church, Basil Rathbone, Bette Davis, Gregory Peck, and Henry Fonda are among the famous actors who have graced the boards. Also on the grounds the Cape Museum of Fine Arts houses a collection 500 works by Cape-associated artists.
Dennis' hiking trails, all open to the public, include Crowes Pasture off South Street at the end of Quivet Cemetery in East Dennis and the 87 acre Fresh Pond Conservation Area off Route 134.
Other activities in and around Dennis include bike-riding on the old Cape Cod Railway, two outstanding public golf courses, many great restaurants, unique shopping and, of course, beautiful sand dune beaches!
