Dog Island Vaca
September 7, 2014
Very nice home. Very cold AC. Very well equipped kitchen. Beautiful screened in porch, gorgeous beaches, very secluded and private, there is an outside shower that I Loved, nothing else like feeling the ocean breeze, but no TV just DVDs and no transportation to explore the island. But I loved it, I will go back for sure.

Our family had a wonderful time. The house had everything we needed. It was just what we needed to get away from our busy lives. The kids enjoyed fishing, swimming, playing games at night. We loved our family time. Would love to go back.

My family has been trying to come to Dog Island for 3 years, so I was beginning to worry that after so much time and trouble that it might not live up to my expectations. I needn't have worried. It was so peaceful and relaxing, truly perfect! The beach was beautiful and the water crystal blue. We saw sea turtles in the surf, rays, and dolphins. The house was comfortable and exactly the right size. We played board games or watched movies at night or when it rained and spent the rest of the time on the beach. Beth Ann was a gracious hostess, even coming to the house one afternoon to take some family pictures for us. I would come back in a heart beat! I will never vacation at another FL beach again!
Wonderful Vacation House for a Big Crowd
May 27, 2014
We spent 3 nights here in mid-May with 11 people and the house handled it perfectly. We were very lucky to find a great place, and a great landowner, to let us all stay together. The Salty Dog Haus was perfect. There was a small glitch with a broken water pipe, but it was fixed within minutes and our entire stay was beautiful and relaxing. We had everything we needed, including the tweezers for the splinters and bandaids for the sliced finger. The kayaks were lots of fun and the outdoor shower was the best! Can't wait to come back in September or October.

Perfect Vacation Spot

Our last visit to Dog Island was in 1990. We made several trips in the late 80s and I have no idea why we stayed away so long. Probably because we never rented a house. We are a family of 4 with twins 21 years old. They and one friend were on a one week break before starting back to school so we thought this was the perfect location to get away from it all. The house was perfect and very well kept. There was so much space we didn't even use one of the bedrooms. The kids liked the sleeping porch so two of them slept there every night. The location was great, fishing was good, shelling was unbelievable. The kayaks were a lot of fun. Don't forget to go out and look at the stars around 3 a.m. You have never seen a sky this beautiful! If you want a luxury hotel then Dog Island isn't the place for you but if you want a place where you can relax and feel at home, I highly suggest renting this house. We were met at the dock when we arrived and then at the house when it was time to leave. 5 days of perfect weather and absolute relaxation. My only complaint was that our Verizon cell service worked including 4G. I however was the only one on the trip that thought this was a bad thing. Can't wait to go back.

We wanted a beach and seclusion from the normal hustle and bustle of our life. A time to regroup and unplug from the hectic life we normally live. We wanted to just hang out, no clock, no timeline, just Island Life! We found it on Dog Island. The beauty and quite were fabulous!!! I also wanted to get to know someone I pass often and our kids are friends. I made a new friend and got to know more about the wonderful person she is! We brought our in-laws who needed a well deserved break and none of us were in the other's way. We had a fabulous time! Beth Anne and Jon are the best and most gracious hosts we have ever dealt with. Props and love to them!!! We cannot wait to go back to Tbe Dog!!
Great stay at the Salty Dog
May 10, 2014
We chose dog island because we wanted a place to get away from the cares of the everyday grind and reconnect as a family. Dog Island met those expectations well. We are a family of 6. Our children are 12, 10, 8 and 6. The layout of the house and its position to the beach and ocean is perfect. They have kayaks that are easily accessible. Our boys enjoyed kayaking near the dolphins who were feeding just a few hundred feet offshore. The girls and I enjoyed reading the informative book on shells at the salty dog and going on a shell hunt each morning. We found amazing shells and came home with enough sand dollars to share. We fished from the beach, if you plan to fish we suggest talking to a local and have him set you up. The neighbor suggested using sand fleas as bait so we put the children to work catching sand fleas with the catcher provided at the house. Our children had fun catching sand fleas and crabs along the shore. We spent our nights playing board games and watching movies. Our children are big readers and the home is stocked with the classics such as; Treasure Island, Robin Hood, King Arthur, and Pinnochio, just to name a few. A must is meal planning before going. Our favorite meal we made was marinated pork roast on the grill. All of the cooking supplies were provided. I brought paper plates and cups so I could get a break from dishes though. I loved eating together in the kitchen at the big oval table, and sharing interesting facts of what the children had learned from the day or treasures they had found. There are plenty of places to relax. They have lounge chairs and umbrellas for the beach, all the sand toys you need for building a great castle. The water spickets are positioned well to easily rinse off before entering the home. The inside of the home is cheerful and bright. The home is stocked with towels and blankets. It has a washer and dryer and detergent. Beth and Jon were easy to reach if we had questions. We went during spring break at the end of March and the weather was in the high 60's to mid 70's each day. We look forward to the next time we are able to return.
Awesome Family Trip!
May 9, 2014
We have been considering a trip to Dog Island for almost 10 years and finally pulled the trigger- and we're so glad we did!! We could not have asked for a better host in Beth Anne as she was attentive to our every need or question. On top of that, the house is adorable with a great beach feel and equipped with kayaks, plenty of books, movies, games and more!! In fact, we only turned the TV on once during our entire stay as there was so much for our family to do. Absolutely a 5 star in our book!!! Thank you once again Beth Anne for sharing your wonderful home!! We cannot wait for our return trip!
December 13, 2013
We spent 3 nights in this wonderful home. Dog Island is a very different beach getaway. It was totally relaxing. We actually saw a eagle and a starfish! The shelling was amazing and the water perfect. The house was equipped with everything you need for inside and outside fun. I loved the fact that all of our time was quality family time, no running to the store or shopping for beach stuff. The house is a breeze to clean and kitchen was well equipped. It was honestly the most peaceful, relaxing beach trip we have had. I can't wait to go again!

Honeymoon in paradise!
November 10, 2013
We recently returned from our honeymoon on Dog Island. We are so grateful for Beth and Jon's hospitality and lovely beach house. The Salty Dog was an awesome retreat away from the hustle and bustle of the city. If you want peace, tranquility, and privacy; this is the place to go! We were in awe from the moment we awoke (the sunrise is like no other) to all of the stars you can see at night. What a sight! The island is a good spot for a romantic vacation as well as a place for family time. The Salty Dog was well stocked and very accommodating. The weather was wonderful. It was in the mid 80's during the day and comfortable at night. In my opinion, October is a great month to go. We hope to return in the near future. I wish we could have stayed longer! Thanks Beth and Jon!
Complicated Start and Fun Visit
September 30, 2013
Having read the reviews of so many happy visitors, we arrived with high expectations on Labor Day and were greeted at the dock by Jon and driven to Salty Dog. He and we were surprised first to find the AC out, and then the water, so we spent our first night without both. Beth Anne and Jon were then incredible about it, moving us to one of their friend’s houses for the next night, getting the power company to fix the issue on a Labor Day Saturday, and having our visit pleasure be their highest priority. Once we got the logistical issues solved, our visit was wonderful. The house is comfortable, the setting sublime, and the birds and sea mesmerizing. And we all slept incredibly well all nights. By the end of our visit we were checking out houses for sale!
I wish we could have climbed the power poles for you and your family and fixed the problem sooner The power company was in fault-100 percent When the salt wind starts blowing and the wires start rubbing it is beyond our control. It was just our week to have problems as we all have these issues periodically
We have offered you a free nights stay and we took care of your cleaning. You have been very gracious and we hope to see you all again soon.
Thank you Michael.

Great house for a family!
September 25, 2013
We just returned from a week at Beth Anne's Salty Dog house on Dog Island. Our three kids (9, 6, and 1) absolutely loved it, and my husband and I did, too. There were beach umbrellas for shade, sand toys and boogie boards galore. The boys loved each getting in a kayak to play pirates in the shallows. We saw stingrays, a few jellyfish, lizards, beautiful butterflies, lots of pelicans, and even dolphins one day. We spent our mornings and evenings on the beach, and watched movies or played games during the heat of the day. The kitchen was easy to use and well stocked. There was even a first aid kit. There was a SUV for us to use at the dock to carry all our belongings to the house. There's nowhere else to drive besides that, though! If I could have done anything differently, I would have brought more bug spray (bugs were only around when there was no breeze, but my one can malfunctioned on us and was useless). Beth Anne was really easy to work with and a very gracious host. The stars were beautiful, and I will treasure the memories our family made at the beach!

MIssing it Already
August 7, 2013
Our experience at “The Salty Dog” was wonderful in every way. From the time that we arrived on the island until the time of our departure, our days and nights were filled with comfort and relaxation. We were graciously greeted at the dock by Jon and Beth Anne, escorted to “TheSalty Dog,” and given complete privacy throughout the duration of the week. On the day of our departure, Jon and Beth Anne saw us off in the same way that they had greeted us - warm smiles and friendly hugs. The home was clean, cozy, and inviting, with a well stocked kitchen, crystal clear drinking water, and a view of the ocean that was absolutely breath-taking. Our days were spent on the beach, our evenings on the screened in porch, and our nights in very comfortable beds. It was such a great experience to drift off to sleep while listening to the sound of the waves crashing onto the sandy shores. The only thing we regret about our stay is that it was not two weeks instead of one. Jon and Beth Anne have gone above and beyond to make their beach house something special. While we were on the island, we celebrated my son-in-laws birthday. To our delight, Beth Anne even came up with candles for the celebration. One of the greatest surprises about the home, however, was the outdoor shower. We may have possibly been the cleanest people in the world because of the sheer relaxation of that shower. You cannot imagine until you try it. If you are planning a week at the beach, our recommendation is that you make it two (if possible). Then get in touch with Beth Anne and prepare for a tremendous week enjoying the beauty of God’s creation. Linda Walters and family (Summer of 2013)

Best week EVER!!!!
July 28, 2013
We just arrived home from the "The Dog" and I have started my end of vacation blues. As we all know after coming home from the beach we seem to bring half of it back with us. As I was unpacking I found my flip flops that were still wet that I had thrown into a bag and they were still covered in the white crystal sand that sends a sparkle to your eyes when you look at it, and my mind was filled with the last time I had them on. I just now took a shower and washed the last bits of sand that hung on tightly in my hair and could have cried. There are no words to describe the beauty of the island and what each day held for us. We made more memories than I can ever remember making on a vacation. We wanted for nothing living at the “The Salty Dog” and I mean nothing!! When we walked up the stairs into the screen porch we were suddenly captivated by what we saw in front of us. There was so much time and love put into this home that it was overflowing with anything you could imagine. Believe Beth Anne when she tells you less clothes, more food and drinks!! Beth Anne and Jon were the most amazing hosts I have ever had the pleasure of meeting and now consider them family. My family has a small bucket list and we have now can say we conquered “The Dog”!! We will be waiting and counting the days until next year, when we can step foot off Captain Russell’s boat into the open arms of Dog Island. Our family of 5 (2 teen boys and 11 yr old girl) stayed the week after the 4th. It was pouring rain on the day of arrival but the rest of the week, the weather was PERFECT. The house is fully stocked with all kinds of sand toys, movies, video games, towels - the only thing you need is food, sunscreen and a change of clothes. The house was clean and well-cared for. We took home more shells than we know what to do with and can't wait to come back! I loved drinking my morning coffee while watching the sunrise on our boardwalk and then watching dolphins in the evening. Thank you so much for your hospitality!
Best Vacation Ever!
July 24, 2013
My husband and I spent a week in this lovely home with our two children(3 years and 9 years) and grandparents. The children declared it the "BEST VACATION EVER!" The home has everything you need to enjoy the beach and relaxing in the home. Beach toys, chairs, umbrellas, boogie boards, books, and games for everyone. A very well equipped kitchen. All you need to bring is food and drinks! The water is filtered and is suitable for drinking. Lots of extras! We had a wonderful time on the island and hope to visit again. Thank you to Beth Anne for sharing her wonderful home and making us feel welcome on the island.

Relaxing week on a beautiful, private beach
July 7, 2013
This is a great beach home that had everything we needed for a quiet, relaxing week on the beach. The home is clean, comfortable, and spacious with a well-stocked kitchen. It has everything needed for the beach - chairs, umbrellas, towels, boogie boards. We enjoyed the movie collection, board games, and bocce. Dog Island is a beautiful beach with abundant shells. Beth Anne & Jon were wonderful, welcoming hosts! We look forward to a return visit!

There was no better way to spend the week...relaxing on the beach and in the hammocks, fishing, shelling, swimming, kayaking, building sand castles, and just enjoying the time with our 4 teenage boys! The house was the perfect beach cottage and Beth Anne's decorating details are great! We had everything we could possibly need! Beth Anne and Jon were the most gracious hosts, and we thoroughly enjoyed meeting them. Our ONLY complaint was that we couldn't stay longer!!!! We will definitely return!

A Perfect Vacation
June 20, 2013
I think of anything better than to be in a beautiful home overlooking the ocean! This home was spectacular. The owners have kept it in great shape and care about this home. The screened in porch with the cute hammock chairs was just perfect for listening to the ocean and playing cards. The pristine beach is just out the door. Nowhere else will you find such a beautiful beach all to yourself. I have been coming to the island for several years and Beth Anne solidified several more years worth of trips! Thank you so much for working with us and staying in contact to better help us have the best stay we possibly could. Part of me want to keep this place a secret so I have it for my own but I know that there are many families that could make wonderful memories just as we have! Beth Anne you were awesome to work with and it was pure pleasure to stay!

Family Fun in the Sand and Sun!
June 11, 2013
We enjoyed every moment. Then teal blue water, the dolphins, beautiful shells, and the cozy beach house. We even had a blast on a rainy day in. We enjoyed the movies and games galore. This house is so stocked with kid friendly stuff. Everyone from our baby, the 4 year old, 9 year old had something to do. Beach shade, toys, kayaks, books, and EVERYThing else for kids and adults. We loved Dog Island and we are so thankful for Beth Anne's kind responses to all our questions and for letting us stay at her beautiful getaway at Dog Island!!!!
May 28, 2013
We had a wonderful time at Dog Island at Beth Anne and Jon's home! This was our first time to Dog Island and we will be returning! We have been to Destin and Pensacola and the island has the same beautiful sand and water you just don't have the crowds. We spent our time laying on the beach, fishing, looking for shells, and walking along the beach. We found many different types of shells, including conch. We caught a few fish, one including a baby shark! We didn't know very much about ocean fishing but Beth Anne and Jon were very informative in things we should bring to fish. Their home was a perfect beach getaway! There is plenty of room and plenty of comfortable beds! There is nothing better than being able to look out at the ocean from inside your home or from the screened in porch. There were also plenty of books, movies, and games to keep you entertained! One of the best amenities about their home is the fact that there are multiple outdoor washing stations (nothing is worse than tracking sand everywhere!). There was also an outdoor shower. Things to be sure to bring include: sunscreen, paper towels, toilet paper, powdered drink mix, plan out meals, and bug spray. There is also an IGA to buy your perishables before crossing over to the island. You literally go from your pajamas to your bathing suit- nothing gets better than that! Thanks Beth Anne and Jon for letting us stay! The only bad thing about the trip was not getting to meet you in person!

What can I say?
April 18, 2013
This place is DA BOMB! as they say. Total paradise, & complete relaxation. This is as comfortable and peaceful as it gets. The beach is amazing white sand/emerald water. Loved it to pieces. Perfect location for family Spring Break. Beth Anne and Jon are gracious hosts & are very responsive to your needs. This is truly a perfect getaway to get away from it all. You can do a little fishing from shore, shell collecting, sunbathing too and that is not all, but you can do nothing at all if you choose. Don't forget all your food & drink as this island is for relaxation & seclusion so there are no stores or restaurants. You get here by boat or plane. The house is well equipped like home with cooking utensils, linens, towels, etc. We grilled out every night. It is an adorable beach bungalow that provided just what you need-VACAY in Paradise! And you can fall asleep to the sounds of the crashing waves Zzzz! Don't forget the gorgeous sunsets! This is a natural area-so not the clubbing, shopping metro like here. It's just AWESOME! sAND, sUN and sECLUSION Salve for the Soul! Have fun! Thank you! Enjoyed it so much!

Our stay at this beautiful beachfront home was absolutely amazing! From the moment I inquired about the house, Beth Anne has been extremely responsive and easy to work with. As for the house itself, it is even better than the pictures portray! The house is immaculately clean, tastefully decorated with beach accents, and feels like "home". The beds were very comfortable and the favorite room for our children was the sunroom. Our kids slept in the sunroom so that they could see the ocean and hear the waves every night. The kitchen is well stocked with cooking utensils and had everything that we needed to cook meals every day; however, for most of our meals, we used the charcoal grill (remember to bring charcoal and lighter fluid). We loved the hammock downstairs and the private boardwalk to the ocean! As for the Island, we felt like we had the entire island to ourselves! It is peaceful, beautiful, and the shells are AMAZING! There were plenty of chairs to take to the beach. We did not have much luck fishing; however, a cold front came in during the time we were here. Our kids loved the kayaks (remember to bring life jackets) and walking up and down the beach looking for shells. On a side note, we were lucky to have Beth Anne on the Island for our visit, so we were greeted with a HUGE redfish that we grilled for dinner on our first night. We felt like family, and that is the best compliment anyone can receive. The entire property is well maintained and clean. We felt very comfortable and relaxed here. It is a place that everyone needs to visit at least once in their lifetime! You really need to visit and stay at this property to really appreciate the word "paradise". Just remember to pack enough groceries for your stay (there are no shops or restaurants on the Island - which in our opinion is a major PLUS!)
Loved This Place
March 29, 2013
Two families stayed in Beth Anne's house for Spring Break. Could not have had better hosts or a better experience. Dog Island is like no other place I have ever been. From the moment you step off the ferry, you know it's a special place. There are no paved roads or any businesses. The owner's loan you their car for the weekend, but there's really nowhere to go, which is exactly what Dog Island is about. If you want to get away from the rat race and relax, this is the place. Just make sure you bring everything you need (or you'll have to get the ferry captain Russell to make a special delivery). You can walk for hours on the beach and not see anyone. Excellent surf fishing, kayaking, sea shell collecting, bird watching, etc. The house is well maintained and appointed, with all the amenities you need for a comfortable stay. I Beth's home to anyone without reservation and can't wait to go back.

Wow!! Where do I begin to review the perfect beach getaway! If you are looking for a "true" beach vacation(which to me is complete rest and relaxation with no hustle and bustle of a crowd and trying to squeeze in everything you can in a week)....then this is the place for you! My husband and I love this place. We are beach bums at heart so this fits us perfect. Beach views are amazing, fishing is great, screened in porch with adirondack chairs are perfect for reading and drinking morning coffee. Outside shower is AMAZING...no need to shower inside! House is equipped with everything you might need. If you are shell seeker..then you will be in shell paradise. We have found numerous beautiful shells of all kinds Sunrises on beach and sunsets over bay...no words to even try and explain how breathe taking they are!! Great family home or for a couple of beach bums like ourselves! Just keep in mind there is no where on the island to buy ANYTHING (except for ice at the volunteer fire station) so make sure you pack everything you might need as far as food goes. Just pack your swim suit, flip flops, sun screen, and fishing gear and you will be set for the week. (If you get in a tight you can call Captain Russell and he can pick what you need up and you meet him at the dock on his next scheduled run). Beth Anne and Jon are great home owners and we have loved staying in their quaint beach cottage home on "The Dog" ! We are ready to go back soon! Thanks you guys! :)
