A renter

As if a "farmhouse" still under construction in the middle of no where was not bad enough, we were treated so incredibly poorly by the owner, we actually had to demand some of our money back. A truly horrible experience. Our arrival to the property (still under construction, which we were not told) started off with us having to tromp through two feet of snow with suitcases to the doorway because no one had bothered to shovel the walk. When inside, we had to clean the rotting food out of the fridge and hunt down the local caretaker because the extra bedding we had requested THREE times was not there. We were told the internet connection was being set up - big surprise, it was not. We were told there was a hot tub, and after shoveling the snow off around it, we discovered smelly, dark brown goo. The house had not been cleaned and one of the beds didn't even have sheets on it. When we called the owner to report our dissatisfaction, she first tried to tell us it was our fault, then the local caretakers, and then she finally apologized. She only offered a partial refund when we demanded it. On top of all of this, our $750 deposit (a required money order) was never returned to us, even though we left the place in much better shape than we had found it, and so we had to put a stop order on it at the bank. We half thought that the whole entire experience was a scam to rip us off. Not to mention that the place is at least 45 minutes away from any ski slopes. My advice: Don't even think about this rental if you want to be treated like a respected, paying customer. The owner offered us a free night’s stay on a weekend rental in the future. Ha! She could offer me a free year and I wouldn’t return.

"We had a fantastic time. All of your touches, and the view, and such close proximity to Manhattan, was exactly what we wanted." Plato Rosinke, NYC
"We loved cooking alrge, elaborate meals in your fantastic kitchen, then having our port in front of the fire, then walking around the lake after dinner." Lisa Solgit, NYC
