Cook meals in or eat at the very fine area restaurants.

Area Information

East Machias is located half way between Bar Harbor and the Canadian border at Calais. It is a small, rural town with friendly people and quiet atmosphere. It is a perfect "jumping off" spot for exploring the downeast area, hiking, kayaking, sea glass collecting, and visiting the many artisans and galleries in the area. Owners Paul and Marge Hartnett are right next door to offer information on the area and suggest trips you might like and help you find the nearest lighthouse or lobster pound. Nearby are boat trips, golf, artist galleries, hiking trails, kayaking, fishing, sea glass collecting, and many fine restaurants. Campobello Island offers history as well as lighthouses. (Bring a passport if entering Canada). Rogue Bluff State Park is (my opinion) the prettiest beach in Maine. There are also several fresh water lakes for swimming within 5 miles of the house. We are located 5 miles from Machias which has Hannaford Supermarket, Rite Aid pharmacy and many restaurants and shops.
