Area Information
Molasses Pond is located 30 minutes north of Ellsworth in the small town of Eastbrook. The pond is 1252 acres and is known for its salmon and brown trout fishing. It has been recently illegally stocked with smallmouth bass, and there is currently no size or bag limit on them. Come catch them all. There are some big ones too! There are also brook trout, white perch, and of course sunfish! There are thousands of acres of woodland that surrounds the lake, some of which is the Lyle Frost Wildlife Management Area which is open to roam around on and there are also thousands of other acres currrently open for anyone to use as well. There is access to miles of snowmobile and ATV trails, as well as land to find blueberries, raspberries, and blackberries or to go out in search of wildlife in the area that includes deer, moose, bear, grouse, turkey, etc. It is only an hour drive to Bar Harbor and Acadia National Park and also an hour drive to the Schoodic Section of the park.

Surprisingly disappointed...

This year has been the 6th time my wife and I stayed at the Cry of the loon Cottages within the last 9 years. We usually alternate cottages each year. This year we were in cottage 1. We arrived on September 23rd. To our surprise, we noticed cigarette butts, beer bottle caps, and an occasional beer bottle scattered around the property, plus the ash tray full of cigarette butts on the picnic table. When we entered the cabin, we smelt cigarette smoke. In the past, we knew that smoking in the cabin was not allowed. My wife and I are not cigarette smokers, and don’t like that odder. We also noticed the kitchen rug was dirty? When renting this cabin in the past, the indoor/outdoor rug was spotless. Our first though was we were not walking into the “clean” cabin we use to know. We have two dogs. The reason why we rent these cabins is because they are pet friendly. When entering the cabin, we noticed a white powder spread accost the threshold. We assumed a type of pest control. We were both annoyed with that not knowing if that could be harmful to our dogs? So, after removing to the best of my ability the pest control and spraying a bottle of air freshener around the cabin for a few days, we settled in. Things seemed to be back to normal… until I went to bring our first bag of trash to the outside containers, to find the previous occupants trash was still in the containers. We ended up bringing our trash to the dumpsters as recommended each day. With all the above mentioned “nuisances “aside, we ended up having a great week. How can you not sitting on the deck/dock with the view of the pond and the loons signing in the background.
