Description of the Elk Rapids vacation cottage rental
Great place to enjoy nature. Fill your senses with the fabulous Northern air, watch the eagles soar, hear the loons playing, enjoy the sound of the seagulls and hear the wind gently whistling through the trees.
Very cozy cottage inside but very secluded outside. Sleeps 6 people (2 bedrooms/3 separate rooms - glassed in Porch or pullout queen couch in living room). One bathroom with bath/shower but does have an additional outside shower with hot/cold water. Will allow well mannered dog (no cats). Linens included. Saturday to Saturday stay but short stays available (3 day minimum accept for mid-June, July & August are week only rentals).
Full kitchen stocked perfectly to prepare meals (dishes, pots/pans, utensils, spices and condiments). All paper products are provided. Grill, Washer/Dryer, TV/VCR/DVD/Stereo (lots of movies and music to chose from) plenty of board games and cards are there. For your outside enjoyment, we have Moon Valley furniture (chairs, end tables and picnic table), hammock, beach furniture, 2 kayaks (2 lifejackets) and beach activities/games.
Wood fireplace in the living room for those Fall and Winter getaways.
Cottage is located off of a private road but just minutes from US31. Long secluded driveway from road. Cottage is nicely nestled in the woods but with a sunny & sandy beach.
Due to the mild winters and hot summers we have had, the Great Lakes are very low right now which affects the Bay. Our view is still beautiful but the water is further out but still accessible by walking out on our peninsula - its even a fun place to put your beach chairs (feels like you are sitting in the middle of the lake)!. Different but cool! The Great Lakes are very cyclical so this might not happen again for 30 years!
Area Information
Many possibilities to rent or launch your own boat/waverunner on Torch Lake, Elk Lake or Grand Traverse Bay. Both Torch Lake and Elk Lake gives you access to the Antrim County chain of lakes (which offers over 45 miles of inland boating through the lakes and four rivers).
Many great golf courses, Turtle Creek Casino, Grand Traverse Resort and snow skiing nearby.
Elk Rapids has a beautiful play/beach area which offers a park setting for the kids, a beautiful beach with great swimming, tennis and basketball courts. Traverse City activities such as put put golf, go carts, water slide, bumper cars, etc is only 15-20 minutes south.

Our family of 5 and our dog had a great week. The view is fantastic and laying in the hammock gently rocking with the waves was a dream come true. All we wanted was a week of relaxation and peace and quiet and that's exactly what we got. The condo itself is absolutely beautiful and so well taken care of and stocked that it was shocking. The handyman even stopped by to make sure we had enough wood for our evening bonfires on the beach (smores!) and to see if we had any questions. We loved the kayaks that were available to us. The lake was so calm one day I even got my mother out on one and she doesn't even swim.:) You had to walk out quite a ways to actually swim but we had our 3 and 5 year olds with us so the depth was perfect. We visited downtown Elk Rapids quite a bit and loved the river with the "water slide" down the middle. It was a hit with our kids and the kids in town. We had never seen anything like it before. The park and beach down there were also great and entertaining for the kids. Thanks so much to the Nettlers for making this cottage available to us and we will definitely look into it again next year.:)

Peaceful and Secluded

Our family of 4 enjoyed this cottage this past week. We loved kayaking (sometimes twice a day). We enjoyed that the cottage was well organized and supplied. We loved the view, the firepit and quietness (which was our main reason for choosing this property). We have rented several beach homes before throughout the US and we are very particular customers but we found this one to be the most quiet, peaceful and relaxing. We did enjoy the Harbor Days events in Elk Rapids but usually couldn't wait to get back to the cottage to swim and collect Petoskey stones (which we found 9 on the beach the week we were there). We had a very small issue with wasps (my 14 year was stung inside the house) but we sprayed for them again and we realized thats part of the beauty of their natural surroundings. I myself never took a shower indoors the entire week, they have an outdoor shower and that was perfectly fine. Because of the drought this year it wasn't ideal swimming until you walked out a ways but the water was so warm and serene that made up for the rocky entrance. We would stay here again without question.

The cottage was clean and very comfortable. My family enjoyed the kayaks, the hammock, the fire pit and the direct access to the water. It was very private and the low lake level was not an issue at all. We look forward to going back next year:)

Incredible setting right on the lake. Couldn't ask for a better setting and the fire pit on the beach was a hit with all. No air conditioning proved a slight problem as we were in the middle of a heat wave. It was only a problem for a few nights then became very pleasant.

Most relaxing, accomodating place we have ever stayed in Michigan. All the comforts of home and with beautiful scenery, deck and living quarters. Nearby shopping and restaurants also available. We were looking for a quiet vacation with beautiful lake scenery and great living space and this had it all. Can not say enough about the great time we had.

A perfect Michigan vacation!

My husband and I and our two toddlers stayed at the cottage for a week in August and we left very happy. It was exactly as described/pictured. Right on the water with a small, private beach in front. It was fully stocked, well equipped, and very clean. We spent alot of time on the beach and in the water (water shoes are a must!). We also brought bikes and enjoyed many leisurely rides with the kids around the sleepy neighborhood. A-Ga-Ming Golf Resort is just up the road too. It's a beautiful (stunning views of Torch Lake) and challenging course. The best meal of the week was at Pearl's right in Elk Rapids. We really enjoyed the place/area. The view from the deck is incredible. The bay breezes are refreshing. This is a very special place. We hope to visit again next year. Thanks Heidi!

Very Relaxing Week

Our family plus dog spent the first week in August at this wonderful property. This is our first time renting and it was a pleasurable experience. From the beautiful setting to the very well thought through accommodations Heidi and Al thought of everything. Beautiful and private setting is what we were looking for and that is what we got, with no unexpected surprises. We enjoyed the use of this home and took advantage of the grill, beach, firepit, outdoor furniture, kayak, and the wonderful views that were there for us to enjoy. We have recommended this property to all our family, friends and co-workers who have inquired about our trip.

Fun for the whole Family

We are a young family with small children and had an amazing time at this location!! There is much to see and do in the area or you can do nothing at all but watch natures beauty. Our young boys had so much fun looking for interesting stones and fish in the bay and we didn't have to worry because the water is shallow and they could go out pretty far. Our one year old daughter could walk around and splash in the water also! The beach is perfect and the firpit made for lovely nights and stargazing. The house was great with everything anyone could need and was very cozy yet spacious. The screened in porch is just wonderful for relaxing after being in the water. We had a great expierience and would suggest this location for couples or families.

You can spend your entire time at the cottage and enjoy the view, the water, God given nature, tranquility, reading, biking, grilling, watching the stars at night, hitting golf balls into the crystal clear water and then venturing out to find them, enjoying the grandkids, taking an outdoor shower. This cottage offers it all. And, because of its central location, you could hit the wineries, the town and beaches of Elk Rapids, the restaurants, the golf courses, bike trails, and more. Our family thoroughly enjoyed all it had to offer and the memories we made.

What a place, our family had one of our best vacations ever. This secluded cozy cottage has one of the best views of the bay from coffee on the deck to bonfires on the beach. What a location minutes from Torch lake, Traverse city and more golf courses than one could play in a week. This vacation will always be one of our great memories.

Great Place to Relax and Get Away from it All

My husband and I went up there for a brief 4 day vacation and we really enjoyed the place. The beach has a beautiful view of Grand Traverse Bay and the 2 beach chairs were a perfect spot for us to sit and enjoy the view. My favorite place was the huge enclosed front porch. Great place to read in the morning and hang out at night with a glass of wine. The bed in the master bedroom was incredibly comfy - I slept like a baby. The house had all the furnishings and cooking supplied we needed. All in all I would recommend this place to anyone!
