Historical Cottage Experience

“ Excellent ”
September 30, 2014
From the moment you step into this cottage you will immediately take a step back into the time when entire families moved into the cottage for the summer. The rooms of the cottage are filled with memorabilia from as far back as the early1900's. You will find yourselves wandering throughout the cottage marveling at the décor. Be sure to sign and read the guestbook. I would also suggest that you read about the family in the book "Every word is True" there are several copies of the book located in the rooms around the house. The book is filled with short stories of Garton Family (as in the Sheboygan based company) "The Garton Toy Factory". There are antique toys displayed in the downstairs game room that may remind you of the toys you may have had as a child. There is plenty of space for all. The six bedrooms were more than enough for our group of 10. There are three bathrooms, one on each of the floors. The real treasure is the view of Elkhart Lake, which you can experience from the large front porch or from the top of the restored boathouse. The boathouse has a large seating are where you can all easily gather to take in the breath taking view of the lake. There is fishing equipment stored below if you wish to cast a line into the lake. I would highly suggest that you take advantage of the two person kayak that is available. It is the best way to appreciate the beauty of lake. If you prefer to relax, you can pick a spot on one of the lounge chairs on the boathouse deck. There is a walking path that will take you directly into the town of Elkhart. It is an enjoyable walk of about a mile. The house is very nostalgic for anyone who was born in the 1940's to the 1960's. There is no dishwasher, we found a certain charm in reliving how we used to do things when we were young. It brought back many memories and made for good conversation among us. There is also no internet or television. We found that to be refreshing. So, if you are looking for a place to reconnect with family or friends, this would definitely be the place for you. It is a perfect place to experience the natural beauty of the lake, reflect on life and share some real quality time.

great sentimental lake home

December 7, 2014
this home brings back old time memories of lake cottages .it feels like a cottage from the movies that could also be a home. pretty, comfortable. homey. lovingly decorated. the only problem we had was it was very cold at that time of year as only one space heater in the central living room... though the bathroom was heated so very comfy. it needs a lock on the front lakeside door unless it was just that we couldn't find it? especially for women staying alone, as we all were. the owners live next door and are very helpful and nice.

Sheboygan on a bluff overlooking Lake Michigan

August 14, 2014
House was very clean and remodeled very nicely. Owners went out of their way to make us feel welcome. They baked a bread for us left chocolate. My husband is diabetic they made sure to make a bread using a sugar substitute. The view of the lake was terrific. We had children with us and they had space to move. Only suggestion was to oil the bathroom door and leave a night light in bathroom.

Exceeded Expectations

“ Excellent ”
August 25, 2013
The owners of this very clean, well appointed and exceptionally comfortable cottage have done an excellent job maximizing the beautiful lake front views as well as arranging very homey furnishings and décor. The sitting areas indoors and outdoors are outstanding and the lake provided some of the best swimming we have ever experienced. Our group of two couples were more than satisfied with everything and the outdoor patio accommodated our small BBQ gathering of 8. The Esch`s are very nice hosts.
