Private island cottage with 19ft boat / 45hp motor

Thirty-two acres of coastal paradise await you. Sands Island Refuge Cottage is located on a private iIsland, where Bogue Inlet Channel and the Intercoastal Waterway meet. Spectacular views in all directions of tidal sandbars and meandering marsh islands, along with awesome sunrises and sunsets will greet you each day. A 19 foot boat with 45hp motor is included as part of the rental with mainland parking and dockage at Casper's Marina in downtown Swansboro. The cottage is perfect for a private get-away for a small family or couples. It includes two bedrooms, one with a double bed and one with bunk style beds (double on the bottom and twin on top), two baths (one inside/one outside) and a sink in each bedroom. There is a small loft for young children to explore. With the addition of an air mattress, this area can be used for sleeping. One double size sleeper sofa is located in the living area. Kitchen includes all cookware and dishes, but some guests prefer to bring disposable plates, utensils, cups, etc. A full size gas stove/oven and gas powered refrigerator/freezer complete the kichen amenities, with a large charcoal grill available outside. The wood stove keeps keeps things cozy in the fall and winter. Enjoy the cool ocean breezes in the spring and summer that blow through the double french doors on the front of the cottage. A screened in porch overlooks Huggins Island and Bear Island, a part of Hammocks Beach State Park, all accessible only by water - a 15 minute ride in your boat provided with the rental. Enclosed hot/cold outdoor shower is located on the back side of the cottage. This ia a very "GREEN" home, all solar powered with the exception of hot water, stove, and refrigerator, which run on gas. Bring your own linens. Rents by the week in-season. Check-in Sunday, check-out Saturday. Three day weekend rentals in the off-season as available. Dogs are welcome with a $150 per pet fee. Smoking is NOT allowed inside.

Upon arriving and check-in at Casper's you will be given a brief orientation regarding boat operations and then be escorted to the island. If you would like a boat ride of the surrounding marsh area and water to familiarize yourself, arrangements can be made with your host.

The cottage is located on a 32 acre privately-owned island. Sands Island Refuge, also known to the locals as Ski Beach, offers the perfect getaway for folks who have an appreciation for the the beauty of coastal North Carolina and the charm of traditional beach cottages. The view from the screened-in back porch overlooks Bogue Inlet with the ocean breakers and Bear Island in the distance. Huggins Island,part of Hammock's Beach State Park, is just a short paddle away. Explore the area around you with a Kayak or two man canoe, both provided with rental. If you have children this is a great place for them to enjoy - lots of opportunites for shelling, fishing, beach combing, and exploring the beautiful natural surroundings. Fine dining and shopping can be found in the quaint village of Swansboro, which is less than 15 minutes away by boat. You will dock your boat downtown at Casper's Marina where your vehicle will be conveniently parked, but you will probably choose to walk the short distance to the intersting shops and restaurants on the Swansboro waterfront. After dining and shopping, stroll through town to admire the many historic buildings and homes in the area.
