Area Description

Escondido is the home of the Wild Animal Park an arm of the San Diego Zoo, it also has a thriving arts district and performing arts center and a bustling downtown area. 3 Casinos are located nearby for music, dining and gaming (Hey, Its fun!)Lake Wohlford is very close and offers excellent fishing and boating and many hikes are just minutes away from our property. Only 30 minutes to the beach, downtown San Diego, Del Mar Fairgrounds, Miramar Air Station, Legoland and all of San Diego and North county points of interest.
Weekday rates range from $3,000-$5,000 and weekend rates range from $6,000-$7,500 depending on the size of your group.

Family Reunion at Hidden Valley, August 26, 2009

We had a group of 26 stay here. 12 adults and 14 teenagers/children. There are plenty of beds, but we had some trouble putting the 7 adult couples into beds that they wanted. (Two of the larger beds are in the barn which is significantly downhill from the main buildings.) There was plenty of room for us both inside and out. It was hot while we were there though, and the air conditioning is somewhat limited. We could cool one of the largest rooms in the conference center to everyone's content, but many of the bedrooms were too hot at bedtime. (They tended to get to manageable temperatures overnight.) The caretaker was present and friendly. The trees had fruit, though we didn't pick too much. The grounds varied from exqusitely maintained in areas to other areas that still need to be fixed up following a fire several years ago. The well maintained areas were large enough for our needs. The pool, pool table, video library, and foosball table saw heavy use. The spa saw some limited use. (It was nice, we just did other things mostly.) Besides the activities listed on web site, we visited nearby Mt. Palomar for a nature hike and to see the famed telescope. (Quite a view from the peak.) The sheep that were on the property are no longer there, but we saw wild rabbits, turkeys, and other animals come through. Heavy use was made of the wireless internet with little trouble. Of note, we were asked to get event insurance at the last minute. This was an extra cost.
