Sandy Paws Ocean Front Cozy Home
|Per night:||$375 - $700|
|Per week:||$2,500 - $4,400|
The Beach House is a cozy, older oceanfront home. The home was built in 1969 by Paul and CoCo Foster on Figure 8 Island close to Wilmington North Carolina. The design is a mix of Caribbean, Central American and historic Carolina style coastal homes. Our furnishings are eclectic with many 1950’s pieces copied from the famous 1952 Herman Miller catalog while the Fosters were living in Central America. The porch railings are strong but do not conform to current building codes. Please review the photos carefully to make sure they are acceptable.
Our house has five bedrooms and two full bathrooms. There is a warm water outside shower which is the most popular bathing area in the summer. The kitchen is fully equipped including a microwave and all the cookware a chef would want.
The house is located on Figure 8 Island just north of Wilmington, North Carolina. It is a private island and a gated community, accessible only to land owners and their guests. There are no public facilities on the island. It has the only privately owned bridge over the Intracoastal Waterway. We have clean and white sandy beaches with blue-green ocean water. Multiple loggerhead turtle nests hatch yearly. The beach is not crowded since the public is not allowed on the island. There are several good restaurants near by and two good grocery stores.
Our house is light and airy and very relaxed. This is not a luxury home, but a functional beach house. Sandy toes are not a problem! Smoking is permitted outside, but must be carefully controlled because of the high winds and fire hazards. We have had several houses burn down on the island due to cigarette butts left burning in the sand or on the porch.
Please note: We support a small colony of feral cats to help keep the beach mice at bay. They tend to wander about the forest but usually stay hidden. We tend to them very well and we are members of friends of felines. They do not come inside the house!

Our Trip to Sandy Paws
January 2, 2015
We had an absolutely wonderful time! The house was everything we hoped for. It fit our three generation family of seven adults and three kids. Plenty of room and what a view! We were blessed with wonderful weather so we were able to make sandcastles and search for shells. As everything we needed to cook family meals was on site, all we had to bring was the food. It felt like a friend's house loaned to us for the weekend. The only thing missing were the cats we hoped to see - we never saw any!
What I expect out of a Beach Cottage

Paula was wonderful and the house was perfect for our stay. Fantastic eclectic furniture and the plus of private access island of figure 8 kept the beach all to ourselves. Now looking to buy on the island because it was so wonderful.

A Beach House The Way It Was Meant To Be
September 6, 2011
We have spent alot of time on different beaches in Southeastern NC, and Figure Eight is the best. Staying in the best house on Figure Eight is even better. It has all of the comforts and conveniences that you could want in a beach house, but it also has the warmth and character that only the efforts of the owners could achieve over a long period of time. We felt right at home the minute that we stepped inside, and enjoyed everything about it. We will definitely be back.
House with history and beautiful views

We stayed here over a holiday weekend with two families and six kids - it was a perfect house for a large group. It's not a fancy house but has everything you need for a relaxing stay. And being right on the beach is sublime - you can sit on the porch, read a book and listen to the ocean, or enjoy a glass of wine in the evening and watch the stars come out. The island has paths for walking and biking, but unfortunately no coffee shop. If you're OK staying in a house that is not brand-new, this is a great house.
a whole lot of wonderful

our fifth year at this little piece of heaven. early am coffee sitting on the porch rocker with the sun inching above the horizon and pelicans pairs in marching profusion. Can there be a more perfect getaway. quiet, yes. traffic-no. dishwasher-yea. this is the place that the youngest can enjoy making sandcastles, the middles have surfing and water skiing, the eldest can pinch themselves that they were so fortunate to find such an unspoiled vacation spot.
Fabulous Vacation Spot

This house had everything we needed for 10 of us to celebrate a significant birthday for one of our group members. The main room, dining area and kitchen were open, sunny and roomy. The front porch was perfect for that early morning caffeine and conversation. The beach was right out the front door and the sound of the waves at night was peaceful . Bedrooms were all clean and beds were comfortable. We couldn't have asked for better accommodation--and the owners were friendly and fabulous to deal with.

About:Hey! We are Jim and Paula Bushardt. So glad that you are taking an interest in our beach houses! We love them very much and truly enjoy sharing them with our tenants. Paula's parents, Paul and CoCo Foster, built the houses and lived in the ocean front one until their passing. They were true ...
