Very disappointed

August 10, 2012

We were very disappointed--especially given that we did a lot of research and the reviews for this place were so great. The location is decent, which was the only good feature. The yard was unmaintained with down branches everywhere and no grass--it's definitely not safe to leave dogs out there unattended. We also killed two cockroaches in/around the kitchen sink each night. On one occasion, they crawled on our friend as he slept on the futon in the living room. It was unseasonably hot while we were there, and the only AC in the place are window units. They were noisy and did a poor job cooling the living area off. I would not stay here again, and would not recommend it to anyone. There are too many other cute places on Folly.

Great Stay!!!!

July 25, 2012

We could not stay for an entire week which is what most of the beach house rentals require and did not want to stay in a hotel. This place offered a night by night basis and is dog friendly. It had a very comfortable bed, couch, and day bed on the porch. It also had plenty of chairs to sit in. The kitchen was nice and the bathroom was large. We will definatley be back to stay!!

Definitely memorable, but not marvelous

June 4, 2012

Easy access to the beach and to the Bark Park nearby. Owner pleasant to work with. Apartment adequate for short stay for those who don't mind things a bit primitive. However, we were disappointed by areas of neglect: "fenced-in" yard and doghouse in serious need of care and repair; mismatched, shabby towels (with only one washcloth furnished) and a dearth of glassware were surprising since these could be supplied easily and economically from a local GoodWill store. For health and efficiency, AC filters in the two window units need changing . Still, for a basement apartment which allows dogs and is near the beach, it is adequate and more affordable than other options. With just a little extra attention, this could be a wonderful beach hideout.

great stay

May 31, 2012

We had a great time staying in this apartment for a week and a half. It truly is within walking distance of the beach and the downtown area with all the restaurants, shops, and bars... We walked everywhere. Also, if you're bringing pets, there is a great fenced-off area for them to go outside. Lastly, the owner was great to work with, very quick email responses. We would definitely stay here again!

GOOD NEWS: Great location. Great bed. BAD NEWS :Refrigerator would not chill beverages in 2 days. Using microwave for two minutes trips circuit breaker that also runs LR window A/C unit. Using hair dryer in BR trips circuit breaker that also runs BR A/C unit. No curtains on most windows. Killed many 2 inch cock roaches in BR, LR, and Bath Room. Commode rocks back and forth. Large tiled shower has loose floor tiles sqiirting up prior guests debris. Exterior window(?) in shower covered with nasty grime. Exterior of house looks abandoned, not shabby sheik.

Had a great time at Folly Beach

June 20, 2011

My wife and I stayed here for our anniversary with our dog. We had a great time and enjoyed the apartment. It is extremely close to the beach and a better deal than most hotel/motel deals you run into at the beach. The apartment interior is clean, and we felt at home. Lawton was very kind and helped us out when we got locked out. The dead bolt key does not work on the door key so we got locked out because we were only given a key for the deadbolt. Lawton came down and got us in and was very understanding. The screened in porch was very nice, and we enjoyed sitting out there at the end of the day. We wish there was a working light on the porch but bulbs were missing and the light with a bulb did not seem to be working. We were surprised by the condition of the fenced yard. The description of the property indicates the lot is secured. Yes, there is a fence but the latch does not work on the back or front gate. We planed to leave our dog in the lot while we went to Charleston and during the hours dogs are not allowed on the beach. Once we realized a good wind would blow the gate open and that there are holes in the fence we decided we had to test our 11 month old dog’s behavior and leave him inside. Fortunately he was good. The tenants upstairs are very nice, quite, friendly and respectful. They leave their bikes in the fenced lot so there is a chance for the gate to be opened while you are away. So if your dog does not have a sense of curiosity and will not roam when given an opportunity then the lot might be o.k. for you. Not to keep harping on the state of the lot but there was a bottle of lighter fluid in the dog house. I get that "it's the beach" and it is a laid back state of mind, but attention to details like containers of flammable liquid in the dog house is relevant. A trip to the home improvement store and a weekend cleaning debris and fixing holes in the fence would go a long, long way. Highly recommended if you are a couple traveling alone or with a dog that you plan to keep with you at all times. Oh, and there are several great restaurants on Folly that allow you to dine with your dog.

Great vacation getaway

May 17, 2011

We were very pleased with our stay. It was very clean and affordable and our pets loved it too. Mr. Jackson was a very pleasant person and I have referred this property to other family members as well. We will definitely be back again. It made our joyful weekend of celebrating a college graduation even better!

Cool, Compact, Chillout

May 2, 2011

Great location and a wonderful beach retreat.... the owners, who live just behind, are a really nice couple and very helpful. We [me and my my dog :) ] stayed here for a month while relocating and looking for a permanent residence. Still have fond memories of this very cool little *beach cave*. It's small, compact and basic but a great place. In summary, a lovely couples beach retreat with a bohemian vibe. Terrific location for beach strolls and easy Folly beach/bar access....

No regrets on choosing this place over the only hotel on the beach! You will feel like you are really living on Folly Beach and not just a tourist. Great location that feels private, but is so close to the beach, shops, and restaurants! Never will stay anywhere else when visiting Folly!!!!

If you are looking to emerge yourself into the laid back culture of Folly Beach, SC...you do not want to stay in the 1 hotel on the island. You want to live like a local and be comfortable where you stay. This little hideaway is exactly that! We brought the dog and were tucked away in a fantastic apartment that was a walk away from beaches and bars. It was great John

Great location!! Comfortable.

August 15, 2010

We enjoyed our week at this location. Just wish there was an outside faucet/shower in front of the house to rinse off the sand. I would recommend a few more breakfast dishes in the kitchen. There was just one cereal bowl. Our dog loved it and we loved the James Island County Dog park. Wonderful place since the dogs can not be on Folly Beach from 10am to 6pm.

The owner had a very pleasant demeanor. The apartment could have been great but the air conditioning did not work. The owner brought a window until late that evening and that did help. Also, there were no wash cloths and we had to go buy our own. With a little upkeep and tender loving care, this could be a great vacation place!

Not What It Seems

June 29, 2009

I have lived on Folly and visit often but this is not a place I would recommend at all. 2 friends and I rented the apartment for 3 nights but did not stay a single one. The place was full of bugs, the bedding for a 3rd person consists of a sleeping bag, and the apartment had not been cleaned. The landlord tried to help the situation (promising to call the exterminator, bringing a sheet and blanket to go with the couch, etc) but in the end we resorted to giving up our deposit and finding a hotel. In the future, I will gladly pay more to rent from an agency located on the island itself.

Great location, good price

April 27, 2009

Loved the location, walking to beach and restaraunts, 20 minute drive to Charleston. The furniture that is in the picture looks nice but is not what is in the unit. There is a very firm studio type sofa and no comfortable chairs to sit in. Kitchen lacking in supplies (there was only one bowl, no toaster). Bed was comfortable but sheets were a bit tattered (hole in pillowcase) as were towels (stained and had a hole in it). Trash laying around in yard (old bicycle, bedraggled dog house, old air mattresses and cooler) detracted from view.

Perfect for a beach get away.

April 7, 2009

My wife our Boxer Rosie and I had a great weekend get away to this wonderful condo. We were immediately impressed with the finishing touches, a full kitchen makes dining in easy. There is a flat screen TV with cable in the open living area, and the Queen size bed was comfy. We walked every where. The ocean front location was Rosie's favorite part she spent most of her time watching the waves. The space is great for two. I would not recommend this location for children being only a 1 bedroom. We are booking a longer stay for later this year.

I stayed here for a month, I loved the location, you can hear the Ocean from the porch and walk to anywhere after a couple of drinks if ya know what I mean. All the neighbors are cool. Enchanting is the word that comes to mind when I reflect back on the time I spent there.

Disappointed

August 20, 2008

This little cottage has lots of potential, however, when I arrived, it was not ready (i.e. not linens). Also, there was a very musty/beach/mildewing smell in the house. Unfortunately, I was not comfortable staying there and left for other accomdations. I am a long time Folly Beach visitor, however, I would not reserve this place again. Very disappointing.

Affordable and convenient

July 8, 2008

This place was very clean, convenient and affordable. The owner was a pleasure to deal with. I highly recommend to those who are on a budget but want to be close to the beach. My only complaint is that I was not told that I would be ticketed if I parked on the wrong side of the road and I received a $30 parking ticket.

Best Beach Vacation Ever

June 30, 2008

My mother, son and I stayed at this cozy apartment while attending a family reunion in Charleston. We also took our little pug (Bandit) with us. We loved the apartment and Bandit loved the nice shady fenced in back yard. It also has a microwave oven now and a multi channel cable TV. A short walk to the beach and what more could you ask for. We plan to go again next year and hope to stay a lot longer.

Dark and Dirty

This place is completely misrepresented in the description. There were dog hair tumbleweeds everywhere, the bathroom and kitchen were filthy, and the electrical outlets in one wing of the apt. don't work. Needs a total overhaul.

Great catch!

May 29, 2008

My husband and I took our 1 year Anniversary to Folly Beach, SC. This cozy basement apartment was the perfect place for us to relax and spend quality time together. The short walk to the beach and town center made it easy to get around without having to deal with traffic. The amenities were all you need for the beach. The only thing we missed was a microwave. We definitely recommend staying for such an affordable price. We will be back for our five year...

Disgusting

October 30, 2007

the washer didn't work. plus you had to go outside to get to it. the entire place was still dirty from the previous renters when we arrived and took the owner 4 hours to get it clean. when we finally came back the linens were still not finished. a window between the shower and laundry room had a hole that was covered with duck tape. a broken window in the bedroom had a plastic bag and tape over it. there was no microwave or vhs player. the owner asked US to empty the bucket that the air conditioner drained into!!! not our job- we are on vacation. the day bed is located outside on the porch.there was no duvet cover which was not washed- they picked up the linens before we left and threw it on the floor in the closet!! gross!!
